Agreed. We probably shouldn't kill the kid for picking somewhere else, even if Cal is undoubtedly shady in how he pulled it off. We're not killing him for picking somewhere else, we're killing him for showing a complete lack of respect for our school and fans in the process by using us to promote his stupid appearance on ESPN. Exactly. I've never criticized another recruit for picking another school. As far as I'm concerned, a kid want to go elsewhere, so be it. I don't get attached to recruits until they put on the blue and gray. But to engage in this sort of circus is telling. At Kentucky, maybe this nonsense flies. At Georgetown, this sort of approach screams "chemistry problems." (Again, I thought this two days ago. Upshaw is fine with me.)

I wish we were never involved with this kid. I'm pretty sure how this ended up going Kentucky's way and, given that this whole charade looks to be really dirty, I'm very uncomfortable that we were even close to landing him. Make no mistake, I really wanted him to come here and I was going to convince myself that we did it the right way and that he and his family had enough integrity to reject the offers from Kentucky until I was shown evidence to the contrary. But, now that he's not coming here, I hope he's a massive failure. Screw him.

Not trying to put words in anyone's mouths, but if he went through the whole dog and pony show but picked us at the end of it, the vast vast vast majority of those upset with him today would give a rat's ass about how he did it. Would we be concerned about him showing a complete lack of respect for Kentucky and Cuse? By all accounts he's a pretty good kid, maybe with a few crap people around him.

I mean, this was all set up by ESPN. What kid would say no to the opportunity to have their own version of "The Decision?"
I was very much turned off by the "I'm taking my talents to...." language but nevertheless this had nothing to do with him and everything to do with ESPN exploiting 18 year olds for profit. Not that Noel will get nothing out of this - he's building his brand for when he turns pro next year and sponsors are lining up to pay him millions upon millions of dollars to promote their product - but Noel didn't go to ESPN and ask to announce his decision on live TV. This is just the way things are. I don't personally like it, but I accept it.
Chep is right. If there was a G on the back of that head, none of us would care that he announced it this way. In fact, we would have been overjoyed to have this national exposure.

I doubt Georgetown would have participated in a farce of a recruiting announcement program. This kid had decided to go to Ky two weeks ago and he and Calipari knew that. Also the leaks that were put out the last two days either came from ESPN, Calipari or the kids handlers. They were deliberately put out to raise the interest in the ESPN program. Now I might be wrong, but I doubt if JT3 and Georgetown would have been a part of this farce.

The only thing you need to know about Nerlens Noel is that he considered Syracuse a "family" atmosphere. Is that really the type of player you want in Blue and Gray? I think not.

I completely disagree...I would have been just as bothered had he said the phrase "i'm bringing my talents to" even if it was DC. Stupid PR move for Lebron and stupid PR move for him. Haircut thing was creative and he should have only done that. Lebron is a chump that can't finish...and i wouldn't be surprised if Noel doesn't live up to his hype. Dunks and blocks will only get you so far. The education and offensive polish he would have gotten at Georgetown is more valuable in the long run. But money sure can talk when all you have to do is put on a Kentucky hat.

Yeah, this is what bugs me. Well played, I guess. It worked. Pretty much every expert/insider today thought he was going to Georgetown. Made it a lot more painful for sure.

If it hasn't been said yet, Nerlens Noel is dead to me.

To invoke the immortal words of Van, I hate Nerlens Noel and his entire family. May Gregg Williams be hired as a temporary defensive consultant and inspirational pre-game speaker by every team he plays next year.

A little bit of class towards an 18 year old that has more talent (and humility than some) than we could ever dream of.

I harbor no ill will toward the young man. I would have liked him in a Hoya uniforn. Howeve, if what I think happened, actually happened, we don't need to be asociated with his entourage.
Since he is not a Hoya, he is of no momet and I will cease to care about his career.

One need look no further than the thread title to know what I think happened. I believe a courier went from Lexington to Massachusetts and I believe it happened weeks ago. All the rest up to and including last night was deodorant.

The part I have a problem with is the 1: the blog post of "I have no idea where I'm going" then the 2: intentionally fake rumors/lies planted that said Noel to Georgetown when he knew he was going to Kentucky. Those had to be planted in his circle - not ESPN - because they got pretty far reach and the people that were spreading them (for example his teammate, Georges Niang) were personally related to him.

BVB, no clue. That said, have there been any even baseless rumors of GU improprieties? If you're aware of any, please say so. There are many reasons a school could go another direction. Maybe UNC knew they had no shot whatsoever and it's as simple as that. No, none at all. Again, we have one endowed scholarship, and my Jesuit HS in NYC will raise $50M for its endowment before GU can raise $55M for a practice facility (my HS is already halfway there in the silent phase, while the IAC has been out there for years). My point was not that we stayed in when they got out, so we must have been willing to pay freight. We can't collect cab fare. Just find it curious that Roy Williams saw what the game was and got out (assuming this is what happened, since some folks here said UNC cut Noel and not other way around), and we stayed in. I'm guessing we were strung along (the mom thing, the credence that was allegedly given to our history w bigs), since I just can't picture III as Lloyd Christmas. Driscoll is by NN's side last night, so now I am buying the whole GU as smokescreen thing, which I thought was too outlandish last night. I just figured Calamari had a bag of cash late in the day, but I guess now the WWW empire knows to provide window dressing. And not sure what to think about ESPN being in on it. When's the last time Fran Frascilla tweeted about a recruit? That seemed odd-does he do that a lot? And the kid got his own blog. Also fishy in hindsight. What channel is NBC Sports on NoVA FIOS again? I'm just waiting for an RDF rant on this and then I am shutting it down until summer. Hope we get Pollard and/or Upshaw/Hayes, but like id said last night, I can't believe how much time this 40-year old wasted on an 18 year old, especially when we keep playing a rigged game.
