So why did we stay in when UNC got out?

BVB, no clue. That said, have there been any even baseless rumors of GU improprieties? If you're aware of any, please say so. There are many reasons a school could go another direction. Maybe UNC knew they had no shot whatsoever and it's as simple as that.

In any case, shut this down. It's no longer a recruiting thread.

Sad to say, but if Thamel is right on that nugget with Driscoll accompanying him, the media buzz created today was almost certainly planted and we had no shot.
Also not a coincidence that 'Nerlens' tweeted about getting Alex Oriakhi down to UK now as well. Driscoll's fingerprints are all over this and he won the battle.

Thamels' straw man about getting him qualified is exactly that: there won't be any issues. Derrick Rose is proof of that concept.

Maybe UNC knew they had no shot whatsoever and it's as simple as that. I've talked to people that are convinced that Georgetown (through NIKE) gave money to Greg Monroe's church in order to land him. I'm not endorsing this rumor, just saying that it's out there at AAU events.

So let me get this straight - this kid decides a month ago to graduate early and Thamel decides to push the "he won't qualify" narrative?
What a scum.

I thought this even before he announced: the kid seems like a jerk. The way he made the announcement confirms it. I'd rather have a top 20 team with guys like Otto, Monroe, Hibbert, Wallace, etc. than have a top 5 team with such a self-aggrandizing prima donna.
Let's hope for Pollard and/or Upshaw.

Why is it that Thamel gets beat on all of the Syracuse problems but has his finger on the pulse of every other program's dirt?

Can't believe he said "I'm taking my talents...". Do kids think that's a cool phrase? It helped make Lebron quite possibly the most hated athlete alive.

Agreed. We probably shouldn't kill the kid for picking somewhere else, even if Cal is undoubtedly shady in how he pulled it off.

We're not killing him for picking somewhere else, we're killing him for showing a complete lack of respect for our school and fans in the process by using us to promote his stupid appearance on ESPN.
