Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but i personally think we got the worst draw we could possibly get for the BET. i thought for sure we'd stay away from the 8 seed because ND and Lville winning seemed like a longshot to me. But, there is a reason we are 0-1 against USF and 0-2 against SU. We didnt just fall asleep against USF, they beat us up. In fact, it seems like we have struggled matchup-wise more against those two teams as much as anyone else in the last few years. I was worried as hell the last time we played USF because almost every game against them as been an ugly-fest. Throw in the fact that they may be 3 wins away from very serious tourney consideration, and I dont like this matchup at all. I hope I am wrong. SU, in the quarters? Well, you dont even need to say anything about that. That's asking a ton.
That said, I agree with everyone that matchups may not matter when we are playing our A-game, but it's just my opinion of where we ended up. I really liked SHU/Providence/Pitt over this track. I am optimistic, I just dont like our schedule. Go DePaul! ;D

If they can't beat a USF team that played the day before on a nuetral court after already facing them once, they don't deserve to make a run in the BET. If they can't beat Cuse in the garden they don't deserve a chance to win the BET. Its as simple as that. Although I disagree with you on the reason we lost to USF. It wasn't because they were a bad matchup. We went up by 15 and were up by 13 at the half, then fell put it on snooze control thinking we had the game at halftime. And they didn't seem to give us too much trouble last year. Maybe with Gilchrest its a different story and matchups will be a problem. I just don't think thats the reason we lost a month ago to them.

There are so many crappy tickets on ebay right now. Looking at session 5(HOYAS VS CUSE) . Usually there are some good 100 level or lowers available for a few hundred bucks. Then stubhub is a total ripoff. So IDK.. Sucks.
When cuse is good they gobble up all the seats. When uconn and cuse are good forget about it. Huskies shoul dbe out early so ill check after they lose...

Not disagreeing at all. We deserved the 8 seed, and I am not sure we deserved any easier path.
Part of me, however, agrees with what others said. I like that we might have the chance to play USF and Syracuse again. It's a good test for us.

If we have to play Cuse, a Thursday nooner isn't a bad setup -- playing us after breakfast in a de-energized MSG, coming off a loss etc. We could do worse.

Redemption Road. Let's get it done. I'm the more hopeful type, so I just realized that if things shake out a certain way (we win the BET vs. the right combo of teams: USF, SU, Marquette, ND/WVU), we could come out of this season with wins against 14 of 15 BE adversaries. I think this will be a good test for our guys, but we'll need to play near-perfect vs. SU.

If they can't beat Cuse in the garden they don't deserve a chance to win the BET. Its as simple as that. Thank you. I mean what difference does it matter? The Hoyas could be playing DePaul or St. John's or Rutgers and someone could come up with legitimate reasons to be concerned. Unlike maybe some of you guys I don't see the Hoyas winning the BET. Team is not consistent enough, not serious enough, not deep enough. That being said if the Hoyas were to win the tourney in MSG it would ahve to face at least a couple of teams that could give them some matchup problems. So why does it matter if USF is one of them? If the Hoyas want the trophy then they need to go ahead and beat the Bulls to get one step closer.

This is the greatest draw ever.
"We shouldn't have lost to USF."
Prove it.
"We shouldn't have been swept by Syracuse."
Prove it.
After that, nobody cares. We're a 2-3 seed in the NCAAs. I'd love to win the BET but the most important thing is for the Hoyas to prove they can turn it on and beat the teams that "shouldn't" have beaten them.

I'm excited about the draw. Revenge time. And as I called a couple of weeks ago, an opportunity for us to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of our quarterfinal upset of #1 seed Syracuse with the same outcome.
I am NOT excited about the noon start times. Particularly since on Thursday I have meetings starting at 1 PM and going to 4 or 5, which will keep me from seeing the game. Drat.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but i personally think we got the worst draw we could possibly get for the BET. Of course it is. That is why so many of us have been so obssessed with how we coud get the 6 or the 7 (the 7 even with a loss yesterday). I thought you were one of the ones in the camp - "who cares who we play at this point" (or maybe that was just if we lost yesterday?) And the noon start times really suck. While I can certainly understand the "revenge" factor (see many posts the last 24 hours), and the fact that our inconsistency of late makes it crap shoot anyway (see MCI's post above), who wouldn't rather match up against teams we have already beaten - in some cases handily and in some cases on the road - and play at night? Having said all of that, I am so pleased with yesterday's performance (in particular, of course, Austin's seamless return to form), that I am headed to NY with a fair bit of confidence - and a lot of excitement.

There is always a team in the BET that hits its stride and goes father than their record would indicate is possible.
I think that's us this year, for several reasons.
1) We've played a ridiculous schedule - this teams has dealt with adversity and negative crowds. They know what it takes on a neutral floor.
2) The team has won an impressive game on a semi-away neutral floor. They can play in an environment like they would need to against a Cuse or UConn at the garden.
3) The team has won a neutral game at the Garden this year against a Top 25 team.
4) We underperformed when we were looking ahead or when we suffered injuries. Freeman is back and its impossible to look ahead in a single elimination tournament.
The key is the first half against USF. If we come out like we did in the second against Cincy - we're on our way. If not, I don't know that we'll make it past the first round in the NCAA's. The key is the first 20 minutes. Every deep BET run that we've had we stepped on the court and dismantled people (the ridiculous passing display against Nova comes to mind) - hopefully this can be the same.

As a Hoya fan, why WOULDN'T you want another shot at Syracuse? Going through the season without beating them irks the hell out of me.
As for South Florida, there were some things that happened at the end of that game that I'm pretty sure the Bulls will regret on Wednesday.

I love this draw. Bring on the Bulls. (Sorry, Depaul.) Payback time.
Does it get any better than the BET? What conference tournament comes anywhere close?

While I agree with everyone above that most of the time it is preferable to play team you know you can beat, I believe this season we can beat any team in the nation based on skilled players and our system/players who understand how the system creates opportunities. Unfortunately until the past 2 weeks, all our losses came against teams who we didn't take seriously enough (except Villanova and Syracuse.) I am sure we will take USF seriously, the greater risk might be DePaul if they can beat USF and we don't take them seriously....

Definately a tough draw. Now I'm going to have to formulate a good excuse to miss class for the first hour on Wednesday, and that excuse must have a logical extension to miss the same hour again on Thursday. Hmmmmm..... any suggestions? I would suggest telling them you were diagnosed with diabetes, but we all now know that is no excuse at all. I can't wait to squish that pimp Jones between my little fingers from my seat at MSG while the guys dismantle him on the hard wood. Coach should give them a Clockwork Orange style viddying of Jones pumping his chest and strutting around our house - 24/7 eyes pried open until tip off, see how motivated we are then. Once we do that we can worry about Siberia-cuse, but I am with GeeDell - I will take a shot at 'cuse any day of the week, especially in a year where they have not seen our best yet. Only disappointment is that they gacked yesterday and won't be #1 if we get through to them. If we get through to them we will get through them.

Jones at the end of the 2/3/10 game. What exactly did he do?
