Charles Smith was a lot like that, too. A lot like Sleepy when he was on fire

I agree. That first half wasn't great, but it was a long way from our worst half of the season. Rutgers, UConn, Nova and Cuse I games all had far worse performances for a half.
I think it was more that Louisville played out of their minds in the first 20 minutes. Sosa was on fire and they simply didn't turn the ball over at all. We did a good job to weather that storm and stay in the ballgame on the road.

If your barometer on Chris Wright is how many points he scores, he had a lousy game.
If your barometer is him doing what needs to be done to WIN, he had a very good game. He was solid breaking the press all night, he moved the ball well on offense, and he hit free throws down the stretch. His defense was much better than some are giving him credit for as he was not primarily guarding Sosa for most of the night - that was Clark.
At least one of his turnovers was when Monroe dumped a bounce pass to him on the baseline when he was in the middle of all 3 Louisville front court defenders and had nowhere to go.
I couldn't agree more, and you both make excellent points!

opps sorry i thought you were talking strangle hold on a three seed for new york my bad but still NEED TO WIN ONE BY ONE BY AT LEAST ONE as coach said could beat anybody left on the schedule and we could lose to anyone left on the schedule yup GO HOYAS BEAT ND ON SAT ONE BY ONE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Well, like westend and I said, we'd still have to take care of business to get the NCAA #3 seed, but the point is that that was a really good aspect of last night's win. Our collection of good wins is honestly in the top 5 in the country. I'd say Villanova, Syracuse and then us.

Does this mean that Freedom Hall is almost officially closed?

That was a LONG time ago Dan. How about Iverson and Page I think I agree with Dan. Both A.I. and Victor were volume shooters who wore you down with their physicality. They always had the ball in their hands. At his best, Austin is 1980 Sleepy Floyd - although not defensively. Playing on a team with other reasonable scoring threats - Floyd had Duren and Shelton - Sleepy would get 25 in a smooth, almost matter of fact manner and he wouldn't need a lot of touches to do it. True, they did it differently, but both AI and Vic could, and did, go on runs that way. And I agree totally with the Sleepy comparison. It still amazes me that Sleepy did it without the benefit of the three point shot.

Does this mean that Freedom Hall is almost officially closed? Nah, they still have a home game against Syracuse - so hopefully last night was their last home LOSS.

Great win and amazing game by Austin.
Only thing I want to add is that Greg didn't have his greatest game with his right hand, but he also hasn't given detractors too much ammo on this point in the past 4-5 games.
The team didn't shoot layups well this game (I suspect because we were having some trouble playing through the contact that the refs were allowing down low), but Greg has shown some progress with his right recently and I think it's just confirmation bias to get on him for this game and ignore his improvement in other recent contests.
If nothing else, he is getting good enough going right that defenders have to respect it more.

I haven't read others' comments but here's mine. 1. Excellent road win. Remember when the Hoyas had so much trouble breaking the press? No more. Nice contributions from the bench. 2. Austin - Wow. Makes it look so easy at times. 2. Greg - Took Samuels to the wood shed. 3. Chris - Despite little scoring, solid game, particularly in consistently dribbling past the press. 4. Julian - Quiet game. 5. Jason - Can't believe how his handle has improved so much from last year. I believe Jason has suffered the most from having to play 35+ minutes each game and constantly having to chase the opponent's best shooter. 6. Hollis - Two threes in the first half were huge. Played with more confidence. 7. Jerrelle - Four points from Jerrelle, most welcome. 8. Vee - Based on little playing time, I think he has be quickest hands on defense on the team. Doesn't seem to be overwhelmed when in there.

Two other fun things about last night:
1. The women beat Villanova (we had it on TV at BlackFinn; that was cool and props to the guy who thought to put it on). 2. The men and the women both won and had identical final scores of 70. Has this ever happened?

Drove up from Nashville. Great game. Must win, just like Notre Dame game. Monroe and Freeman was mister outside and inside. Wright ran the offense like a pro......Something I don't understand. Why wasn't there more Hoya fans in the crowd? It seems like we could/should travel by at least the hundreds.....Just curious.

Great win. Good game by Greg. Still, he missed at least 3 open 10-15 foot jumpers. Work on that this summer and come back next year to show a complete game before going pro.
