I officially nickname Austin Freeman "The Jackal" because he's an assassin. He choked the life out of Louisville in a cold, professional manner.

Worst half ever followed by pretty **** good half. Beggars can't be choosers. I'll gladly accept the win. FAR FAR FAR from the worst half ever. I would give either half against Rutgers, first half against both Uconn and Nova and second half verse Syracuse and USF nods over that one.

Also some improved ball security, especially in the second half. First game I can remember where we didn't have at least one lazy pass to the top of the key that resulted in a fast break the other way.

Does anyone think that Maybe, just maybe, JT3 might have said a few things and maybe changed a couple things during half time?
Freeman looked VERY frustrated a couple times in the first half. I wouldn't be surprised if he spoke up too.
Great work by the team in the 2nd half. UL had just won 5 of 6 conference games, including @ Cuse. VERY good and Timely win for our guys!

If your barometer on Chris Wright is how many points he scores, he had a lousy game.
If your barometer is him doing what needs to be done to WIN, he had a very good game. He was solid breaking the press all night, he moved the ball well on offense, and he hit free throws down the stretch. His defense was much better than some are giving him credit for as he was not primarily guarding Sosa for most of the night - that was Clark.
At least one of his turnovers was when Monroe dumped a bounce pass to him on the baseline when he was in the middle of all 3 Louisville front court defenders and had nowhere to go.

Water under the bridge at this point, but I said it at the time, and I stand by it. I thought that was one of the worst halfs we've played. id be interested to see if III talks about it to the press and what they talked about at halftime. It's strange to say, but if it wasnt for the plays of Hollis, Vee and Benimom which ended up as 10 points, we would have really been in trouble.

How about that bench! As quoted from the Louisville message boards:
"Forget about Monroe and Freeman, it's Benimon, Sanford, and Holliman that are coming out of nowhere. "
Well, we're not sure about Holliman, but maybe he's the next Shomnick...

Uhh... 0/4 FG, 4 A, 4 TO is struggling. I think he'll turn it around, but saying that he didn't struggle tonight is some heavy, heavy spin. Yes, but I actually watched the game, and the stats far from tell the whole story. He created a lot of baskets that didn't count as assists and he was a one man press break for God's sake. Tonight he didn't struggle, he had a very good game. I watched the game as well. He wasn't terrible, but Wright has been a one-man press break forever. He performed up to par in this aspect, but struggled greatly in others.

The vaunted Louisville press created, what? ONE Turnover? Hoyas only had 11 for the entire game. And there were several times when we broke the press and ATTACKED the basket for easy buckets.
With Chris, Jason and Austin, the Hoyas handle pressing very well.

I was playing intramurals during this game but I'm going to start watching the replay now. I can be a lot calmer knowing the result lol...

You seem to be one of the few people who think Chris struggled this game, so maybe you watched a different game then the rest of us, or don't understand how important and difficult it was that he handled the press with near perfection.

I think Lville reverted to form in the first part of the second half. Our D wasn't all that different from the first half, but Lville was missing shots and making bad passes. Meanwhile, our offense came alive in dramatic fashion, thanks almost entirely to an amazing performance by #15. Nice rebounding from Greg, too.
Agree that CW broke the press well. He was sweating so much at the FT line that I wondered if he might be sick, which could account for a down scoring night.

Speaking of presses I nominate Vee to come in and be a 1 man press harassing the opponent's guards as they bring the ball up. Like Charles Smith early in his G'Town career. Just come in with 7 minutes to go in the 1st half and attack the ball in the backcourt for 3 or 4 minutes. Change it up, get the other team out of sinc and give someone a rest. Vee's a battler that seems to know what the hell he is doing.

I've seen Sosa, Jerry Smith and Preston Knowles have opposing guards literally scared to come get the ball. And Chris dominated them all night. All of them. None of them could put pressure on him. They couldn't deny him the ball, they couldn't stop him from getting anywhere on court he wanted.
Chris, IMO, had every bit the great game Austin had. It's just that Austin's game will show up in the box score

You know what that squad looked like tonight? A top 10-type team that went on the road against a decent but not that great opponent and worked through some early struggles to beat without too much agony the kind of team they should beat without too much agony. It's nice to get a win like that, and I hope the guys enjoy it.

I think the fellas knew their roles tonight. Chris's role, probably per JT3, was to handle the press and get the team into the offense without turnovers, while Austin was to do what he does best, score and Greg was just supposed to make it work and win his match-up with Smardo. It sure seemed like that was the gameplan anyway.
Nice win Hoyas! Let's keep it going.
