Is Duke bringing its own officials to the game? I'm rather hoping that Scheyer picks up three fouls in the first 15 seconds. ;D Don't they always?

Let's get the win against Rutgers on Saturday and then (I know given the opponent nobody ever wants to think this but) we're basically playing with house money on Monday night. And the Duke game should be fun and would be a great win, but in the scheme of things, it isn't as important as the conference games.

The way our guys have been playing, they are a strong threat to win every game remaining on our schedule. It's time for a big upset win at the Carrier Dome. Let's go HOYAS! WIN on Monday on National TV!!!

4-2 after this gauntlet!!! You have to be happy with that. Guys and the team are still improving. Looking forward to see how we are playing when March gets here!!!

I wrote up above that I would be thrilled with 4-2, and I stand by that. The Syracuse performance was a disappointment, but 4-2 is still great.

I had 4-2, but Nova instead of Pitt. Both results were a surprise.

4-2 and the only losses were on the road to the #3 and #4 teams in the country. Only one disappointing performance by our guys. And some incredible upside performances.
The two teams we lost to still need to come to DC.
Great stretch by our guys.
But we can't let up. S. Florida is next. GO HOYAS!

agree,
4-2 in this stretch was really, really good...i actually think, based on our performance yesterday, that we move up in the polls tomorrow. we had a tough week and rebounded about as well as you can

The two losses are going to come against what will likely be the #2 and #3 teams in the country (assuming Kentucky gets the drop it deserves). And both were on the road. Much more important, IMO, is defending our homecourt and making sure neither get a W on their return trip.

Ok it's time to start talking about the Next Next Six. We have 3 must win/on the easy side games: Home to south florida and @ Providence @ Rutgers. We have 3 Games that are in theory toss ups. We need to go at least 2-1 here: home nova and cuse and @ Louisville.
another 4-2 wouldn't be the end of the world, but would be disappointing in my mind. I could see us struggling at louisville with their press especially if we're coming off of a big victory over Cuse. And of course two games against the top 5 in the nation will be tough even at home.

The game at Providence will be no gimme.

The game at Providence is no gimme -- neither is USF at home though it should be easier.
The rest of the season breaks down into five games we should win and four tougher ones. That doesn't mean we should win all five, of course. Pomeroy has use going 6-3 over this stretch as well.

How did Pomeroy like us yesterday? Pop that in your spreadsheet!

How did Pomeroy like us yesterday? Pop that in your spreadsheet! The system didn't, of course, but that really doesn't mean much. Game to game variation in any predictive system is pretty high. Also, for some reason, Duke is almost always overrated by computer systems. I think it is because Duke always runs up the score against mediocre and crappy teams and does things like in our game where the starters try really hard to decrease their blowouts. Also, their style of play lends itself to beating mediocre teams but not good teams -- high pressure tactics make big margins right up until the point that someone is quicker than you. I do think the Hoyas are improving and a better record than 6-3 is possible, maybe even likely. But we do have two top 5 teams at home, a top ten team on the road, a tough game at Louisville and the rest of the BE. Rutgers beat ND. DePaul almost beat Cuse. It's nine games -- being perfect even in those you are favored in is hard.

For any of these systems to work everyone has to be playing by the same "rules." Coach K screws it up for everyone else when his starters are still going full tilt up 46 against Stetson when anyone with a soul would be running out the clock or playing the bench. 6-3 gets us a top 4 seed, I'd think. I don't see 4 teams finishing 13-5 or better at this point. I'd just about trade any other loss for a win at WVU. Owning the tiebreaker with WVU and Pitt would put us in good position heading into the last week of the season.

Fact of it is, the ACC stinks this year, and almost all the top half teams are just killing the other teams at home. Then those same teams go on the road, and can barely beat last place teams. It's a sign of complete mediocrity. Duke was overrated, but that's okay, the national exposure and a-whuppin was totally worth it. I still think we are about where we should be now. Around the top 10, with a legit chance to creep in the top 5 with wins over Syracuse and Nova, but that will be very tough.
