In addition to all of the big picture things about heart and development and tenacity that we hope will make a lasting impression from today's game, the win was also huge because the Hoyas now enter THE GAUNTLET--a run of six challenging games that will make up their hardest stretch of the season:
Thu Jan 14 Seton Hall Sun Jan 17 @ Villanova Wed Jan 20 @ Pittsburgh Sat Jan 23 Rutgers Mon Jan 25 @ Syracuse Sat Jan 30 Duke
To me, a split of these games would be monumental, and is almost too much to ask. A win Thursday is essential, and after that, a Rutgers win is essential, but any other single victory out of the remaining four games would be huge--I think in reality we can reasonably lose all four without doing any real damage to the season (Pomeroy has the Hoyas losing all 4 and going 2-4 in this stretch, yet still going 12-6 in the conference).
Of the big four games, I guess I'd rank our chances of victory in the following order:
1. @ Pitt 2. Duke 3. @ Nova 4. @ Syracuse

I wouldn't be so pessimistic about that.
We're better than Nova.
We're better than Pitt, although it's extremely tough to win on their court.
We're MUCH better than Duke, and I'd be disappointed if we lost that one.
Syracuse would be VERY difficult. That's a very good team.
I honestly think we can go 4-2

"Too much to ask" is pushing it. We have two games we should win easily. So we're talking about 1-3 in the other ones. Not only can we do it, but jesus, these teams aren't juggernauts.
If you took KenPom's chances of losing every one it would be: .6 * .6 * .81 * .71 = 20%.
So beat Seton Hall and we have an 80% chance (Rutgers is close to 100%) of not finishing worse than 3-3. Do it at least.

I honestly think we can go 4-2 We're better than Nova only if: 1) all five players are scoring (recently Jason hasn't been doing much of that) 2)If we take advantage of our size (Monroe would have to get the ball a lot and he must look to score) 3)we get more than two to four points from the bench I do think the Hoyas starting five is superior to Pitt's five but Pitt gets contributions from everyone on its roster. Syracuse's depth is too much for this team IMO.

6 games in 16 days... that seems like a lot

Seton Hall has played well this year so I wouldn't call them "an easy win' as suggested, but we are the better team and should win unless they shot lights out from behind the arc. I would be content with wins over Hall, at Pitt and Rutgers heading into the Duke game. That would put us at 6-3 half way thru the BE season and having more home than road games in the 2nd half of the BE schedule.

After a great win yesterday, I couldn't help but look at the rest of the schedule. With 15 games to go, I think we go 9-6 down the stretch. If we can go 3 - 2 in each 5 game mini stretch, it would be great. 21-8 going into the Big East tournament would be a good accomplishment for this group. One surprise road win over Syracuse or West Virginia would be a cherry on top of a gutsy year. Go Hoyas!

3-3 over the next 6 and the Hoyas are 15-5; which would still be top 15, imo. Pitt and Cuse are the toughest in that stretch. Panthers just do what they do and get it done. Cuse is physical and have two SF's Hoyas can't matchup with; Johnson and Joseph. Duke is a toss up to me, but they're good. Have to beat SHU and RU. Again, I see 3-3.

we will go no worse than 4-2. I'm predicting 5-1. We could sweep. I think we have a very good chance @ Nova. They're overrated and we have played really well @ nova as of late. We're 3-1 @ nova under JTIII only loss came in 05-06. we're 6-3 overall last loss coming in 2007.

I do not believe anyone outclasses us. We have a legitimate shot at winning each of these games, though the probability of winning all of them is likely quite low. Color me the optimist, so I predict 6-0, low probability notwithstanding.

Point of fact: 2nd half Hoyas from yesterday loses to none of the listed teams.

I agree with TASHOYA If we bring it like we did second h alf we wont lose to many teams outside of maybe a Kentucky or Kansas.. I think we at least go 5 and 1. Though I will be pulling for 6-0 for sure. Still flying high after yesterday huge win, I hate the huskiees more than anything!!!

Not to rub it in, but can you imagine teams like Kansas this year or UNC last year even going 4-1 in that Big East stretch? It was mentioned during the NOVA-Marquette game, but look at the stretches that all the Big East teams have to play at some point in the season. It's laughable that the Big East isnt far and away the best conference in the country. Marquette is mostly 1-3 because they played WVU, NOVA, GTOWN, NOVA.

Syracuse is the best team in that stretch, and the only team, IMO, that's just really a tough matchup for us. Wesley Johnson is an absolute monster.

I am pretty optimistic, and think 3-3 is very doable. However, Seton Hall is going to be very to start.

Just a brutal stretch. Remember our slide last year really began with a then-unexpected home loss to West Virginia, so we really need to take care of business against the Hall.
I'd say 4-2 is a good record to shoot for in this stretch. 3-3 is acceptable though. This conference really approaches the absurd.

Wachovia. When was the last time we played them on campus? Was it 06? or 07?

Wachovia. When was the last time we played them on campus? Was it 06? or 07? I know we played them on campus for the 20th anniv of Nova's Nat'l Championship...the Darrel Owens lay-in to spoil the celebration, 66-64!

The 06 game was also at the Pavilion. That was an incredibly tough ticket for Hoya fans and Villanova won without too much difficulty.
