Henry -- one of the best players in the league? You must be drunk.

We have three of the best players in the league in Greg, Austin and Henry. If the guys around them get better, this team will be very dangerous I think you mean Chris, not Henry.

Too much New Year's alcohol? See oxymoron.
And, I agree. JV is looking great too.
One other thing I noticed is how much slower Jason is pulling the trigger. It seems like it's taking forever for him to shoot the 3 and it seems to be messing him up. In the second half when JT3 called the timeout from the bench with maybe 8 on the shot clock, Jason had the ball and, upon hearing the whistle, just yanked up a 3 like he was in the preseason and drained it. Would love to see him get that trigger back. I think he's going to be a very important part of our perimeter offense and needs to keep defenders honest.

Second game in a row that we relied on the big three. Good to see that they are delivering as advertised. I second the notion that we get some bench help. I don't think we scored a point off the bench this game. In fact, the ESPN box score said all the starters played 40 minutes each, which is wrong, because they had Hollis and Henry listed (both for 0 minutes).

Good win. Remember it was the Hoyas who had to exorcize the demons of last years 2 losses to this team that returned 9 members from those wins. I think this played a large part in their confidence, especially hitting all those contested 3s. Will someone please remind me who Hollis Thompson is. Where is the slashing small forward that can drain the open 3. St Johns game plan was to make the Hoyas put the ball on the floor. The drive to the basket was there all night. Chris, and Freeman took advantage of it, but Clark and Hollis seemed scared to drive toward the basket. Clark has fallen in love with his 3pt shot, without any evidence of why he should. I agree with others who think Vee and Jerrelle have to get more time or the starters will be worn out by the end of the season.

OldHoya -- you are 100% dead-on right. The drive to the basket was there -- and really wish Hollis would have taken advantage. I hope he isn't just a 3-pt shooter. It would be great if was a "slasher" as well.

Oh for God's sake. I feel like its last year again. We just won before and January and all people can talk about is the bench. Guess what? Last year it wasn't our biggest problem at this time and this year I don't think its the biggest problem either. We don't need our bench to score. Chris and Austin are both great scorers and could carry a team by themselves. Greg is more than able to carry a team scoring wise on his back as well. Vaughn and Clark provide nice scoring threats themselves. We need our bench to provide defense rebounding and make smart plays offensively. Hollis and Henry both did all three of those things really well at times, and very poorly at times too(though mostly the poor was Henry). Yes the bench needs to improve, but right now I don't see it as our primary concern. I also think you need to be patient with the bench. Hollis is going to score, Henry is going to be able to take better advantage of opportunities. Again, bench SCORING is not an area of concern as far as I am concerned. In fact the reason Hollis hasn't been taken advantage of some of the opportunties he has had to score is because there are usually 4 better offensive options on the floor at the time and he is making the smart play.
I feel like I am in the twilight zone, honestly.

Agree with sleepy that scoring isn't needed from the bench. I think about 8 extra minutes could have been carved out for Hollis, Vee, and/or Jerelle with the object being to minimize the careless turnovers that result from guys getting fatigued. That will come with time I think.

Box Score Nuggets: guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2009-2010/123109.htmlOnly 13 turnovers. Austin with a great stat line: 6-8; 1-1 (three); 2-2 FT for 15 points. Chris: 7-11; 2-3; 5-5; 4 assists, 1 TO Monroe: 8 rebounds, 5 assists. 17 points off turnovers (SJU only had 11 TOs), 36 points in the paint. SJU held to 39% shooting (34% second half).

34%? How can that be considering they hit 62 3s in a row? Maybe it just seemed that way. In any event, my 7 week old got a rude introduction to my mania when hissed at the TV while giving her a bottle. She was stoic as always though.

One big difference this year is that we are taking advantage of opponents overcommitting against us on the offensive boards. We are looking to run and we are getting a bunch of easy points in transition.

So the game before the game started when I and a friend paid $20 each to enter Bar Louie. Where we found a fully eaten buffet with lousy chicken fingers that made me wish I had eaten nothing. Boooooo, Bar Louie. Boooo.
Small crowd, but a feisty one. Season ticket holders actually stood up and kept standing with a few minutes left. And the place got kind of loud in the second half.
The friend I brought was at his first Hoya game and hadn't followed them. I explained as Georgetown took a six-point lead with about 13 minutes to go that they had problems stepping on the throat and making the lead fifteen, but they were still winning this year. Georgetown played out the script perfectly.
Music notes - I was surprised when I heard "Free Fallin", then heard a hip-hop beat and found out it was Chamillionaire.
Oh, and when I think Georgetown and intensity, and want to pump up the crowd to a blue froth, I choose "Party in the U.S.A." by Miley Cyrus.
EDIT - ooooh, almost forgot, Steve Alleva sang the National Anthem. Awesome.
Oh, and Jack was dressed in a little tux outfit that kind of made him look like a biker. And he destroyed the St. John's box.

Good win. Not pretty, but a good win.
Henry's defense was unbelievably awful. His New Year's resolution needs to be to man up and bust his butt on defense.
Love to see Chris scoring the way he is at the moment.
Bring on Depaul.
