Overrated (with much borrowing from several previous posters):
- College Football - Breakfast, in general - In-n-Out (tasty, but I can name a half dozen better fastfood/casual burgers in the DC area alone, and their fries are blah). - Virginia - Manhattan (with a few exceptions) - Google wave - the Sports Guy - Peter King - South Park - Heineken

You know what else is overrated?
Guinness.
Don't get me wrong, I love a nice Guinness or 10, but I increasingly see any number of people who say they won't drink anything else and who scoff at anything that's not celebrating a 250th anniversary this year.
Just relax already. Yes, yes, here's to Arthur, it's a very good stout.
There ARE others.

The Heineken/Beck's combo is another inspired pick. That stuff is nasty. I'd rather drink an MGD.
I'm going to throw out Curb Your Enthusiasm and duck.

Getting back to the "what's properly rated," Chuck Klosterman tackled said issue in Spin in 2004 and republished it in IV (list here: www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=34821) That said, Overrated (good, but not as good as reputation) Chuck Klosterman

Overrated/bad - any of the Miller Lite or Bud Lite "special" flavor beers. Ick. Coors scores points by default for not going there. - wine from U.S. states other than CA, OR, WA, and ID. Sorry, I know there are some out there who swear that NY, VA, and IA are making great wine; I just haven't tasted it. - timeout and halftime gimmicks, most notably the ubitquitous t-shirt toss* - indy folk rock
*with the exception of the t-shirt gattling gun. that thing is sweet.
Overrated/good - Beirut/beer pong - the 7th inning stretch - Buffalo/BBQ/teriyaki/etc chicken wings
Underrated - hot tubs - sick days - eye glasses - hot sauce - intramural softball - pre-cooked chicken from the store

Just wondering if you watched this past season- I thought it was outstanding and in consideration for the best season of comedy of the decade, right there with AD Seasons 1-2 and FOTC Season 1 and IASIF Season 2.

Just relax already. Yes, yes, here's to Arthur, it's a very good stout. There ARE others. I'll go a step further- American Guinness is simply not very good and not worth drinking in 9 out of 10 establishments that serve it. When you find a place that pours a proper pint, by all means have one or two, but any more than that and I am paying for it later. I don't have a similar problem in Ireland, where it is somehow tragically underrated by many young people- far more trendy to drink Bud bottles over there, which is completely backassward. Drink cheap, ice cold Bud bottles here and creamy delicious fresh pints of Guinness there and you won't ever be too far from happy.

While we're talking about Heineken, this is what Dennis Hopper has to say on the subject (NSFW-Language):
I think Curb was overrated in season 5 and 6, but this past season was just comedic gold (though maybe 5/6 cause people to overrate season 7?).
As for me (with some stuff that has probably been said already):
- Arrested Development --> The critical hype for the show was such a turn-off that I didn't start watching until it was already cancelled. - Any post-Seinfeld venture undertaken by the four main characters --> If Jason Alexander wasn't attached, who was gonna watch "Kornheiser: The Sitcom"? - Mashups and remixes --> Not every song needs to be combined with another; many times it doesn't work - Top 25 polls in college sports --> They either ruin the system (Cincy doesn't play for the mythical national championship because old, stogy voters never heard of Cincy until last month) or are irrelevant (does it matter that we're 14th in the nation in mid-December) - John Lennon --> McCartney was the visionary and produced better music when they started writing individually. You can't convince me otherwise. - The power of new media --> Though I might be breaking the no politics rule, this selection applies to anything. Whether its organizing or microblogging, I don't want everyone's opinion on minutiae all the time. We don't have fast, reliable connections that make new media the end all, be all just yet. - NASCAR and poker on ESPN - Apple products --> I love my Macbook Pro, but the amount of obsession for Apple (especially in the tech community) is astounding. Google is getting there, but they have a much greater variety of products that I'm interested in using. Having said that... - Cloud computing --> Not everyone is going to have an internet connection all the time. Sometimes it's good to have actual programs that don't need connectivity to run.
Underrated: - Winter Olympics --> Much more exciting sports with more variety than its summer brethren (can't beat the combination of skiing and shooting stuff that is biathlon) - The NHL --> Mainly because no one rates it at all, but also because it's really the best sporting event to see live out of the big 4 American sports - Swordfish --> It's delicious when prepared well, but because of all of the mercury fears no one wants to eat it. More swordfish for me!

Overrated (bad): -Olympics (both versions) -Philly Pizza/philly cheesesteak (sober) -Rhino's -chicken finger thursdays -MSB -cable news -preppy kids -David Letterman -will concur on the IPA's
Overrated (good): -Rolling Stones -Tombs (sorry, it's a good bar, but to think that people go for 99 straight days...) -Baseball -World Cup -Yankees/Red Sox -Celtics -Back to the future II -SFS -Lobster -Blackberries
Underrated: -In N'Out- for all the stuff non-californian's say out of jealousy, it is underrated. -Euro Cup -Original nintendo -Alladin -Parks and Recreation -John Oliver -Spinach -Crab -PC's

Jack, It was so hit and miss for me I gave up a while ago. I did see an episode with a Seinfeld reunion -- it was good but hardly some kind of divine revelation.

Things that have been mentioned in this thread that are not overrated: Arrested Development Booeymongers Fajitas Sweat Pants Halloween( I suppose after you get to your 30s) Lost Soccer Gnocchi World Cup Entre Salads Breakfast, in general Tombs( I like sitting down and having people bring me drinks I don’t think I’ve been to another bar in DC where this happens( suggestions for places like that?))
Things I agree are overrated: In & Out( ok i haven't tried it yet, but at this point it has to be) Cats New York style Pizza Caviar Ethiopian/Eritrean food. U2 french toast( originally had this in the disagree column but then I realized the only French toast I really like is when my mom makes it. From a restaurant it usually sucks.) Awards shows - Oscars, Grammies, Emmies College football/NFL football Segway Scooters Virginia Manhattan( pretty much all of New York) Guinness( I can’t even drink that stuff it’s so thick it’s like syrup. but then again I’m a terrible beer drinker I pretty much hate any strong tasting beer I prefer liquor) NASCAR and poker on ESPN Olympics chicken finger Thursday(only because they ruined it my sophmore year by switching chicken fingers) Rolling Stones
Additional things I think are overrated: The Simpsons( early on amazing last 10 seasons or so not good) Olives Rhino's(The bar) New South Coffee(tastes terrible) Wine Seinfeld
