Just got a chance to look at the box score on GUHoyas and the one stat that jumps out at me is Clark had 5 assists and only 2 TO. It is really nice to see he tightened up his handle and his stroke looked great. This will be a major factor for this season and I would expect him to play starter minutes whether or not he is starting throughout the whole season.

Good to get a win on the road against a "major" team to open the season. This should be a confidence builder. Of course, for Greg it was a "home" game.

loved the two headed monster. like that Jason got to start. hard work paid off for both Julian and Jason to get the start in the opener.

great first win against an actual real team on the road. a little sloppy at first, but that is to be expected. good job by wright after the TO fest he had the first half. much better 2nd half overall as a team. we shot a very good %, not too many 3's. did a god job on the boards. can't wait to see them tuesday.

I listened to most of the game and between that and a good long look at the box score, there is a lot to like about this first game. The guys we really need stepped up in a big way and everyone else was pretty much at or above expectations at this early stage. I really look forward to Tuesday!!

Wow.
I guess im not surprised by anything the guards and Greg did cause we all know what they can do and im not surprised either that Hollis was nervous in his first game...
But MAN for the first time it looks like people werent kidding, I was so impressed by Vaughn and Sims, they look like two completely different players from what I saw last year, Vaughn looked strong like he could go up against any of the best big men in the big east and Sims looked so quick and athletic -nothing like that slow weak lanky guy i saw last year.
I like our starting lineup with Clark and Julian

I like the staring 5 as well. Not sure where the offensive production comes from the bench. I see Sims more for rebounding and defense. Hopefully Hollis can take the lead in that regard.

I don't want to be the only person to post a negative b/c overall, I think we looked fantastic for this point in the season. But did Wright's decision-making bother anyone else in terms of his continued insistence on the "Put head down, sprint somewhere in general direction of basket, try to figure it out along the way" approach. I saw it a few times and just worry that he might still be out of control too often.
Other than that, nothing at all to say a bad word about from this first outing.

re wright i think coach took him off the ball the second half anybody who was there comment and this summer chris was very steady and a great patient point with only one or two kenner games of the old chris with the go in on four guys and lose control sooooo think he was pushing think jason will help out .. i do wish that hollis works into the starting lineup austin as guard not forward adn JASON OFF THE BENCH playing as much or more than the other guards but that spark a ewing like thingy would be great o and d and rebbies and threes etc dont think its gonna happen cause is the most improved for sure with julian close behind go hoyas and also ROY WAS MEAN IN THE SECOND HALF OOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPSS IMEANT HENRY WAS MEAN IN THE SECOND HALF HENRYBEMUCHMORECONSISTANLYMEANERANDBIGEASTWATCHOUTFORTHE TWOHEADEDCENTERMONSTER YES

Clark, Vaughn and Freeman appear to have made significant physical and mental adjustments this summer. All three lacked confidence last season - if their roles weren't clear to them then, but they sure as heck are now. Rich's ecstatic "Vaughn with the offensive rebound and the putback!" in the first half was one of the best things I heard all night. Chris embraced the leadership role in the Cuse game last year - looks like Austin has now joined him.

I thought Wright looked the most nervous in terms of exorcising demons from last year and that's why his TOs all came early. I hope that he'll be a calmer presence (like he was in the second half) on the court because he did make some good plays when the team was pulling away.

all starters = 2 or more assists 4 starters in double figures pts both Greg and Freak loaded up the stat sheet - we knew Greg would but Freak showed real leadership pressbreak went well except the one time Greg tried to go from the backcourt to the rim - yikes "the offense" was lethal when we ran it consistently in the 2nd half
the flipside? they shot 40%, though our zone in the 2nd half in particular looked pretty tight early season nerves from CW, Hollis GM and Sims don't need to be stretching their game to the three pt line, but hey, might as well see what's there

Yup, I think that's going to be the question all year. Our starting 5 looks really good, but the question is going to be our bench, because in all honesty, as of right now we go 7 deep and that is never deep enough. Hopefully Hollis can provide some punch off the bench. Otherwise, any game we pick up some early fouls is going to be trouble.
