Great to see Jeff Green in attendance as well...

We need a Kenner league Uni Watch thread. Jeff's sneakers were quite loud today. They did match his orange jersey and black shorts, so maybe it was all planned.

My recap of Aug 2nd
Jeff, Jon, and Tyler played 2 games for Clyde's and Tombs Hollis struggled today to hit anything, but rebounded very well. Jason Clark was ridiculously good, had 21 pts at half and had some great finishes at the rim as well as a boat load of 3pt hits Henry was good, had a nice +1 finish on the break after a great pass from Jason. he played reasonably good D...was ok with his perfomance Austin did his Austin Kenner thing drive to the goal score and hit the mid range shot Julian did not play and wasnt there Jerrelle is still looking like a long term project what was funny tho was Chris Braswell played for the tombs today, and him and Jerrelle look like they were seperated at birth body wise, and play wise. Chris Braswell and Jerrelle seem like the same player. Chris Wright was tremendous leading DCX to the win, and a nice backdoor two handed dunk off a pass from Monroe. Drove well, hit a 3 off a miss FT. just was spectualr, only thing though it seemed him and Freeman were going at each other in the 2nd half rather than playing team ball. Chris though to me looks different in his approach. He isnt the same wild drive Chris into the lane from last years Kenner. These are much more smartly and under control drives. there is a difference to me. Greg played well, he still cant score on Jeff in the post. But he has some nice open court plays and follows off misses.
But the biggest things to take away from today is that Jason and Chris had huge days....especially Jason. he was tremendous today, and he better get 25-28 mins a game next year.

It's looking more and more like we'll see a lot of Chris-Austin-Jason sets next year.

I think I saw somewhere on the board that the new schedule has no mon/tues games? Can someone confirm, or is anything going on tomorrow night?

Watching Chris play alongside Scottie Reynolds saturday, I thought there wasn't much to choose between them. You could certainly argue that Chris was the better of the two. I liked the way Julian was playing saturday as well. Jason was one of the best players on the court. If he can play this way during the season, he'll get serious minutes. I also liked the way Henry was playing like a big guy and taking up space in the middle. Hollis looks good, but his teammates don't seem to want to throw him the ball. Looks like the pieces will be there for next season.

Hollis got one touch in the first half on Sunday. His teammates won't pass him the ball, because he , like them, doesn't share. That was III's issue at the banquet when he spoke about him.

Really, Captain Renault, there's not a lot of sharing of the basketball at the Kenner League? I don't think this is going to be too much of a problem when the real games start.

KC- some teams do share and run plays at Kenner. On Thursday Hollis only passed two times in the zone, every other time he did his thing. Agreed that if Hollis is a ball hog, III will sit him down.

some teams may share and run plays, but from what i saw, Hollis' team is a bunch of gunners...he barely touched the ball Sunday. I wouldn't pass either if I got six touches the entire game.
the Kenner League is for everyone, but clearly when you look at substitution patterns, etc, the Gtown boys seem to take center stage...unfortunately for Hollis, he is the lone Hoya on his team and no one cares to share the rock with him. From what I saw in his limited time, he is a smooth operator and VERY long...but skinny as all hell and seems like he got winded a bit as the game went on.
Jason was the star yesterday and Chris is going to be a force - just hope Coach can harness his talent and adapt to his style of play while still remaining true to his offensive principles.

JT3 told you that? If not, I am just a little curious what would make you say that if you were not told that personally by 3. Otherwise, it is just propoganda, which Im willing to bet it is. Because from what I see and read, Hollis has always shared the ball, even dating back to high school when he was clearly the BEST player on his team, but he deferred to lesser players. I actually saw it firsthand on an occasion or two.

He said it at the HHC banquet when he talked about Hollis to the whole hall. Anyone who was there heard it. He said something like " Hollis can a be a good player for us if he stops thinking about only himself and learns to share the ball with the team" LIC you were there isn't that what III said?

I've seen Hollis hit some guys with the backdoor bounce pass in my two nights of Kenner watching.

lichoya68 - From banquet Thread
"...coach told hollis he needed to see it wasnt about him but about team. and thatd hed get it.. "
Not anywhere in there does it refer to "sharing the ball with the team", let alone referring to anything basketball related. Who really knows what JT3 was referring too.
Its almost comical how people on this board love to infer and insinuate based on something they read or heard from a 3rd or 4th party, rather then factual, tangent data.
As far as Hollis, all the reports on this board point to the FACT that his teammates never pass him the ball. All reports from this board point to the FACT that Hollis is, and has been, an unselfish player going all the way back to High School. And it seems obvious from most Kenner recaps that once he does touch the ball, more times than not he makes the right play. Anyone who truly knows the game of basketball and has played competitively before in any setting can easily concluded that playing on a team full of gunners is very frustrating and as williambraskyiii put it so eloquently, "I wouldn't pass either".
kellycpcm, its Kenner Summer League, it is what it is, so stop making ludicrous remarks about season playing time and players getting benched all because of an organized pickup game. Ridiculous.

While it seems a strange issue to become hot under the collar about, I would agree from the play I saw that Hollis was sharing the ball(and in fact impressed me with his passing and court awareness) and his teammates were simply doing their own thing and did not seem very interested in team play.
I attended Thu and Fri nights.

Chris though to me looks different in his approach. He isnt the same wild drive Chris into the lane from last years Kenner. These are much more smartly and under control drives. there is a difference to me. I couldn't disagree more, especially when we all got to see what was just a hypothetical before, a look at Jon and Chris matching up. Yeah, Chris was faster (although Jon countered that by staying in front of him at least on his way down the court), but the main difference was their eyes. Jon, as always, looked at the whole picture and set things up. Chris, meanwhile, still stares at his defender trying to decide how to break him. All I saw was that same wild drive through and through, with maybe a dish or two more than he'd concede last year. I'm extremely nervous about watching that all year, as I am about the fact that all I wanted was to watch Jeff, Jon and Austin school him. That makes me feel wrong as a fan, but I feel like even the times his crazy layups go in is just bad reinforcement. *prepares for a flaming about that* Speaking of which...anyone else there see that one play in the second game Jeff played when every else seemed to be milling around like a timeout and he just drove through the lane and flushed it? It was actually like time stopped. Crazy.

I would agree that in the 2nd half he was going one-on-one crazy in the 2nd half, my post you quoted said as much, the 1st half wasnt like that at all. And Jon for the most part wasnt guarding Chris...Austin was. As for him doin that durning the season I dont think he will as much because of the offense we run and its Kenner, its weighted towards the guards. But DCX beat the doors off the Tombs. so i dont know how you can take a negative out of that.
The 1st half of the game he was setting-up Mo Creek and Greg very well. The other game was exactly the same type of Chris. i like that his drives aren't ending uop with wild shots over defenders like last year. He has a plan...Thats what I meant, not that he sets it up....I think thats where we are differing in opinion. Chris will never be like Jon in his approach and I dont want him to be.
That play with Jeff it seemed more like he was like Okay I'm going to get a basket and you guys cant stop me, if I really want it. He just blew by Greg
