Brandon Knight is the best player in the 2010 class, do not fall for the harrison Barnes hype. But Knight coming to Gtown is more of a dream than reality. Expect it to be a Miami/Florida battle. how did we end up his list? just a respect thing or does it give both a bit of exposure?

He likes Gtown and vice versa obviously, but it will not happen. GU is on his long list, but not his short list if that makes any sense.

Isn't Knight a point guard? Given how happy we are with Markel, wouldn't it be odd to spend a lot of time pursuing another point (no matter how talented) particularly if he's likely to be a one and done? Don't we have other more pressing needs for the remaining 2010 schollies? I'm not being critical here - just wondering about strategy.

Knight is big enough to play either guard position, I don't think he has to be just a point guard. Markel would have to deal for a year if Brandon wanted to come.
That said, I doubt it happens. But I'd never seen the Hoyas mentioned with Knight before and thought it was pretty cool when I saw it.

graeagle,
Interesting statement about Brandon Knight being the best player in the 2010 class. Do really believe that he is better than Jared Sullinger? Please note I am not saying you are wrong. I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the information you bring to Hoyatalk. I always make it a point to read your posts. I am just interested in why you believe that Knight is the premier player in that class. Thanks.

www.maxpreps.com/news/XgcU-F9zEd6SyQAcxJTdpg/marshall,-gilchrist-shine-at-nbpa-camp.htm Terrence Jones (6-8 PF – Portland, Ore., Jefferson - Rockets): In the opening round, he spent time both inside and out but was better near the rim with some impressive plays including a tough finish against the trees off a bad delivery to him. Converted what ended up being a putback of his own missed 3-pointer following an offensive rebounding battle that saw everyone mixing it up inside. Notable defensively was when he matched up with Tristan Thompson and took the chair out from him to force a travel. Jelan Kendrick (6-6 PG – Atlanta, Ga., Westlake – Jazz): Long and lean point guard with size got in the lane and dished to Payne and Hairston for two separate hoops when the defense converged on him. Showed his ability to see and deliver over a defense when he drove and found a cutting Josh Hairston. Nate Lubick (6-8 PF – Southborough, Mass., St. Mark’s - Celtics): Already having a nose for the ball, it was a light-work 20 points for him as he beat the opposing bigs who looked anemic. Committed to Georgetown.

weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/recruiting/2009/06/recapping_the_nbpa_top_100_camp.htmlFormer Walbrook small forward Roscoe Smith made some waves this weekend when he announced his intention to transfer to Oak Hill Academy in Mount of Wilson, Va., for his senior year. “Me and my parents, we sat down and discussed it,” Smith said. “It was a long thing, but at the end of the day, we made the decision to go to Oak Hill.” Smith averaged 6.4 points in five games this weekend. The five-star prospect isn’t ready to reveal which programs comprise his list of top schools, but playing with the top 100 players in the country helped him focus his criteria. “I had Lenzelle Smith, [who’s] going to Ohio State [on my team],” Smith said. “I liked his game because he’s a point guard that can penetrate and distribute. So, OK, I like that. I could see myself playing [with a point guard like him]. But ... if you’re a wing forward, why would you want to go somewhere with a point guard that’s shoot first, not pass first? But it’s all about having fun here. You’ve just got to really get on your toes, because they’re going to test you. They’re going to push up on you. You just gotta step up and man up.”

So, the obvious question is would Markel be considered a "shoot-first" point guard, using Roscoe's definition?
Also, I wonder what Roscoe thinks about a wing forward like Hollis Thompson being in the class ahead of him?

And should be a very good college player, with his height and decent but not great athleticsm...not sure how high his ceiling is. But I would love Sulli on my team. The top players as I see them so far forgetting the hype: 1. Gilchrest, don't care what class 2. Knight 3. Sulli 4. Josh Smith 5. Tristan Thompson 6. Harrison Barnes

Markel gets everyone invovled then takes the good shot if available. What I love most about Markel is his leadership. He does not point the finger at others when things go wrong, he either takes repsonsibility or encourages everyone... Just gotta work on that on the ball defense.

How 'bad' is his defense? Given his quickness and relatively good size (6 foot 2, right), it would seem that he has the physical tools to at least be an average defender at the college level. Does he gamble too much, have trouble keeping his man in front, reach in excessively, etc.?

Does he gamble too much, have trouble keeping his man in front, reach in excessively, etc.? Markel has all of the physical tools to be a great on ball defender. But he is like most high school players, and just does not hunker down and commit to that end of the floor yet.
