Sounds like if we offer him, he's a lock....I'd say III might be waiting to see what Sanford and Williams do, but I really like this kid. Could be a Paul Harris type if he works on his shot. Are you saying Paul Harris can shoot? Can shoot better than a number of people on our team at least according to this year's stats.

To be fair to Jamal, Omar's level of competition was far weaker than Jamal's at Springbrook. Jamal also stepped up in crunch time vs. that said competition. Now, that being said, I'd like to see this kid prep or juco for a year to build his skills then matriculate to GU. The motor is there though.

I look at instincts, intangibles and athleticism here. Ola has 'nova written all over him. I would've looked at Omar and seen that. Let's not forget, Omar recruited G'town....not the other way around. There's no romanticism here, he has the stuff we would need on this team. Can't have all scorers and "me" guys....

He is a project and not BE caliber. People need to stop romanticizing. This happens all of the time and it's why we get in position where every year fans get angry with type of guys we've got on the roster. Omar had a great showing in front of the Staff too and he unfairly took shots left and right and then has everyone wanting him gone or benched. Be careful what you wish for. I have really no opinion either way on the guy, since I've never seen him play. Just personally saying that if we are going to take guys who are more likely to contribute over time, they should be coachable, winners, there should be more bigs and they should be local.

Personally, I am a lot more impressed with players who step up and carry their teams to close wins in state playoff games than by guys who show off their athleticism on the AAU circuit. There were four or five losses this year that would have been won with two more rebounds and a little inspired defensive effort. Olasawere looks like a guy who could contribute minutes as a defender and rebounder with no expectations on offense as a freshman except not turning the ball over.

Yeah, I agree, but I don't think that id has been guilty of that in the past, and he seems to be in Jamal's corner. id, could you respond to RDF's point?

Jamal is playing in the Capital Classic tonight alongside some of the other top players from the area (Spurlock, Armwood, Yarou etc). The game has fallen off a bit in prestige from where it used to be, so it might be a bit harder to find recaps, but if anybody runs across one it'd be cool. Game will also be on Comcast Sportsnet on Saturday @ 4 if anybody in the area wants to check that out and let us know how he looked.
Personally I'm reserving judgment on his game for now. I can see both sides of the positions outlined by RDF and SF.

11 pts, 6 boards on 3-7 fg, 5-7 ft for Jamal tonight. 16 minutes, 1 assist, 2 TO, 2 steals and 1 block: www.thecapitalclassic.com/Assets/usvscap09.htmYarou and Spurlock with big games for the Capital team. John Jenkins stands out for US team. Some of the big names with weak stats for US team.

I understand what you are saying RDF, but we need guys like this on the team. You cannot have 13 all-stars on the team and expect them to stay happy without chemistry issues. I think the saying is too many chiefs and not enough indians? Tyler Crawford comes to mind as a great chemistry guy that rarely played a minute. You bring a few kids in like this guy and they become practice players and spot subs that help the "team." I am with SF, these guys should be local, high energy frontcourt players that know how to win. I am not sure Omar ever fit that at all and I do not even like the comparison to be honest. Would Omar have even been at the level to play in the Capital Classic and score 11 points? Also, this kid seems to be a better athlete, which to me is key for a practice/energy player that can push the starters. A kid like this is perfect, he does not threaten the existing players and probably ads a little spunk to a team that could use an attitude adjustment prior to what should be a bumper crop in 2010. Finally, the complaining this season about Omar was more on JT3. He should have been a cheerleader and maybe a 5 minute a game sub. There were games where he was used much more than that and then the message board booing came out.

In fact, didn't Omar play in the Cap Classic with Hank Sims? He had below 10pts i believe and everyone said he has a good shot but needed to work on some things.

I don't think it is reasonable to expect that Jamal would be happy with the role of Tyler Crawford. It seems to me the kid has really come on this year, and has "grown up" a lot too. And he loves to play and compete. Expecting a kid like that to be happy to be practice fodder is unrealistic.
Either he has a chance to play and contribute at GU... first year, second year, at some point. OR He should go somewhere else.

I realize no one would be happy with Crawford's minutes (none), I guess a better example is Omar's minutes thus far with a gradual build as an upperclassmen. My main point is, not everyone on the roster needs to be a future BE starter, that does not rule out being a key contributor, but yeah, no non-walk-on would want to ride the pine for 4 years. And I also agree with you and RDF, if JT3 does not see him as at least a key reserve as an upperclassman then both parties should look elsewhere.

That is not what has been done in the JT3 past. He had Jessie left from his first recruiting class and Summers from his second. All left w/o playing except Egerson and baby doc. And baby doc left because his PT was going to be cut by Clark-someone who could score.. The heart and soul of this team is Chris and Austin, everyone else needs to compliment them. That said we need a shooter who can make his own shots and a rebounder.
We might have them already with Hollis and Julian, but the board appears to dislike Julian. Greg will probably only stay one more year, so we need to get another big to replace him.

I was thinking -- what about someone like Boubacar Aw as a comp? Could Jamal be that kind of defender? Boubs didn't have much perimeter game early on but actually became a decent offensive player.
But he was always a great glue guy and stud defender. Started three years, I think, though on teams that needed no extra offense.

Jamal dropping 11 and 6 in 16 min is great news because that's against much tougher competition. Sign the kid up.

I saw Jamal about 3 years ago in an AAU game. Remember him being pretty good. I use to work with his coach. He was at the game last night so we didn't get a chance to talk because there was too much noise. I'll talk to him this weekend and try to get the 'scoop'.
