This would be ideal for us and would have us competing for a national title. Not to be a stick in the mud, because there is more than enough negativity around these forums... but I don't think its really to wise to be talking about us competing for a championship next year at this point. That same St. Johns team that has beaten us TWICE in the last week brings back everybody next year (plus they get one of their best players back, who was injured this year). That same Cincinatti team that beat us TWICE, crippling our season, brings back everybody as well. That same Seton Hall team that outplayed us this year brings back everybody but their 6th man and adds some really high level transfers. Before we start talking about winning national championships we need to worry about winning games against the middle-of-the-pack Big East schools. The idea that a year of development is enough to make us contenders because everybody else is going to lose their best guys is misguided. Those same 3 teams that handed us the 5 most crippling losses of our season are all bringing back essentially everybody. What reason do we have to believe that this same Hoya team minus JS and plus a few new recruits off the bench is going to be able to beat this same SJU team + a few new recruits off the bench, or this Cincy team with a few new recruits off the bench, or this SHU team less Gause plus a few new recruits off the bench? This doesn't even touch on teams like Syracuse (returns everybody), WVU (loses only one player), Villanova (loses 2 contributors including Cunningham but brings in the #1 recruiting class in the nation) or some of the other top teams in the league. I think we can improve this offseason too, and I think we can improve a lot if we work hard. But we wont be the only ones. And based on what we've shown the last few weeks, we've got a loooooong way to go to even be contenders in the big east again, let alone national contenders.

Why should you have to teach a 6'8, 240, 6'10, 250 and 6'11, 240 how to rebound? Hell, they the biggest guys on the floor! For me, learning how to rebound and having the right attitude when rebounding are different. Our guys have been taught to rebound, but don't show the right attitude and are not good rebounders.

You're right, RB. Don't forget SJU might land Lance Stephenson.

RB,
Im not overly concerned about other teams. I said if WE do what WE are supposed to do, it wont matter. And when I use the word compete, i dont mean play in the nat'l championship game per se. It is more an estimation that we can be seen in the light of UCONN, NC, Pitt, Memphis in that they are all playing at the highest level with the ultimate goal of winning the chip this year. It's all contingent of course on the Hoyas doing what they need to do and bringing in some help, but to mention St. Johns as if they have the talent we have is crazy. But again our players have to play to their potential.
But your point is taken.

That St. John's team kicked our ass twice and is younger than us. I don't care who has more talent, I care who wins basketball games. And for the last few months, we've been no better at that than St. John's or Seton Hall or Cincy. Let me see some W's in the NIT before I believe that the team that regressed the most nationally over the course of the season of ANY serious team is also the one that's going to progress the most over the offseason.

Royski,
If you read my post, you would know your comment null and void. I said "if we play to our potential." That means getting this ship moving back in the right direction. Of course if we play next year like we did this year, we wont win anything. But Im confident that an offseason will be long enough for the staff and the players to improve in the areas in which they need to. Im not concerned about what other schools are doing b/c if the Hoyas do what the Hoyas are supposed to do, those teams you reference wont matter.

The point is that it will take a quantum leap by us to enable us to be a major player in the Big East next year. Perhaps our team will have a higher ceiling than the Cincys, Seton Halls and St. John's of the world. I at least hope that's true. But we have a LONG, LONG, LONG way to go to get there, and the performance on the court indicates that we are starting from further behind. I suggest we wait and see rather than declare that we have limitless potential.

Regardless of who we get, I think everyone who's been hoping Summers leaves is going to be sorry. I would just wing it, stick Sims in starting 5 but only so Summers can play the 3 spot

The DS situation reminds of the days of Good/Bad Brandon Bowman thinking he was NBA material after his junior year.

I think every has made really good points thus far, but speculation is really irrelevant until Greg makes a decision. He is likely to be a top 5 pick based on talent (Chad Ford makes a good argument). And with those guaranteed contracts, its hard to turn that down. I did get the chance to speak with him the other day, and prior to the Big East Tournament, he was undecided. Once he decides either way, everything will be much clearer.
