Someone said today that Chris Wright is a poor man's Kevin Braswell ...

At least Jessie got a quality, free education on the hill. He was the last member of III's first true recruiting class. He deserves better than he has gotten this year. If he were my son, I'd tell him to concentrate on getting that degree and tell III -thanks for the memories.

Random thoughts:
- Why do we let Clark bring the ball up against the press? He obviously isn't ready to do it - a coaching problem, not Clark's.
- Neither Wright nor Monroe can use their off hands, which leads to lots of blown finishes at the rim.
- Greg fronts too aggressively on D, which led to a bunch of easy layins for Gates in the 2nd half. When he finally decided to body him, Gates airballed a hook. Aggressive fronting works when you have a shot blocker behind you (so our only options would be Sims) but not when it leaves Gates two feet from the basket contested by an ineffectual defender like Nikita or Summers
- DaJuan has total stone hands - can't catch or dribble. I think he just isn't that coordinated, since he can't control his momentum very well either.
- I thought Freeman would be one of the best offensive players in the Big East by his junior year when I saw him in HS - and now I'm not sure he's improved at all. Heck, the added weight might mean he's worse.
- Last year was kind of frustrating as a fan - nothing seemed like a success beyond a return trip to the final four. I thought this year would be a relief and a team that was a ton of fun to root for, but it hasn't worked out like that. This is a maddening team to root for, especially as I try to fight off the fear that we'll be worse in the coming years.

I don't understand it. We have the talent, but the team stinks. We couldn't buy a call in the last 2 minutes of overtime. We used to win every close game, now we win none of them. Jeez

I think a pretty telling moment was how much cheering there was from the Verizon crowd when III benched the starters. Even tho there was a timeout in btw the 2nd team getting sent to the scorer's table and them actually entering, there was still a second roar. That's something we are not accustomed in the III era for sure.

I do not see passion or joy or any fun on this team. They seem to have lost that kind of MOJO they had when they TOUGHED out a nice win against Memphis for ex. I got a bad feeling with a few minutes left in regulation when we were up 10, give up a 3, then Freeman throws one of his nightly passes to the other team for another 3, so in about 4 seconds, a 10 point lead became 4. Also, one of their kids gets a hand on a ball - you hear that, all he did was get his hand in the passing lane and deflect the ball out of bounds - and he was jumping for joy and smiling and just loose. We are too tight and every basket and stop is now a chore and tedious at best. I love III but sorry to say we are too DAMN predictable on offense and defense. NEVER pressure the other team - they don't have to think about it or game plan for it - NOTHING. I thought he didn't do that so he could save our legs for the offensive end (mostly) but the damn team is stagnate on that end too - too damn easy to guard since they move around like statues. Too many unforced turnovers - just things that should not happen on this level at this time of the year and by a III coached team. Frustrating to watch. Our only hope is to now PLAY with determination and PASSION and JOY. DAMMIT, EXTEND the defense at least a few minutes a game - even a little TOKEN pressure. SOMETHING!! Get Dujuan at the point of the press and Monroe or Sims in the back and let the guys just run loose for a few minutes. WHAT THE HELL do we have to LOSE except MORE GAMES we're not winning the planned way anyway. Dammit guys, I'm just so low and frustrated right now - sorry for the lic type rant (take it as a compliment dude). Just needed to get that out .. I feel better already, unless I consider the likely scenario that III just ... stays the course.

The things that really disappoints me is that Jessie Sapp is going out like this. It is one thing to contribute to the losing in your senior year, but now, he is not even allowed to participate and they still lose in the most frustrating ways. It just sucks for him. I would not blame him if he completely checked out the rest of the season and never identified with this 2009 team. There is NO excuse for him not to play as the team slowly gave away a 10 point lead throughout the second half, NO EXCUSE. That is all on JT3. Make it work coach, you do not bench a 4 year starter like a 4 year old child that needs a time out. JT3's biggest shortcoming as a coach is that he is not a good psychologist (every coach needs this skillset) and that is what this team needs more than anything right now.
And as for Sapp's replacement, I have such mixed feelings about Wright. He has the qualities of a great PG but it is obvious he just will not run JT3's offense. It is maddening. He loves his dribble drive crap, but it is not consistent and it takes everyone out of the offense. Why is Nikita and Omar the only ones who can get Monroe the ball? Why can't our PG?
The collective inexperience is the reason we are losing, but CW needs to start running an offense, this is not Memphis!
If he does not, just leave please. Seriously, JT3 has won 5 freaking conference titles in 8 years, his resume and credentials speak for themselves, CW needs to take notes.

I find it interesting that some of the same people who were saying at the start of the season (in fact, even last year) that, whereby Jon was not athletic enough Wright was the real deal, are now the same people most condemning him.

I think it's time we backed off on attacking this team. At the end of this game we had a rotation of Summers (junior), Freeman (soph), Nikita (first year playing),Wright (essentially a freshman in playing time), Clark (freshman) and Summers (freshman). That's a pretty inexperienced group of guys. Isn't it at all possible that inexperience is the cause of our losing games which some of us seem to think we ought to be winning?

DS is more concerned about the NBA draft, he thinks he has potential upside.

Its not too difficult to understand that jon was a perfect fit for "the system" as he lacked the athleticism of chris and "the system" made up for his shortcomings

I was just wtching college gameday. The comment was that Georgetown looks like an NBA team in late April that has no chance of making the playoffs and the players show it.

But then I sure wish the "system" would rub off on Wright a bit. You win basketball games by having the best basketball players, not the best athletes. I was one of the hardest on Jon last season; in fact it was me that started the thread calling for his benching in favor of a big line-up starting Ewing. But its very clear at this point that this team badly misses Jon's leadership, poise, and clutchness.
