Up 49-45, Georgetown went on a 13-4 run and built its lead to 17 with 4:39 to play. During that span, the UConn offense disappeared, and the Hoyas literally couldn’t miss at the foul line, making 18 straight to close the game.

“We made 29 in a row at shootaround this morning,” Georgetown coach John Thompson said. “That’s what Chris (Wright) is saying.

“(But) I told our guys, they make runs,” he later added. “And when they made a run, we were able to stay composed, get back together and then regroup.”

It was Georgetown freshman Greg Monroe who wowed the 40-plus NBA executives in attendance — and not Thabeet.

"They basically switched spots in the NBA Draft after tonight," one NBA scout said. "There's no way Thabeet is a top-10 pick right now while I'm sure there are 20 teams who would take Monroe in the lottery."

"It's a group effort," Thompson III said. "Our guys did a great job helping each other."

While the Hoyas have always been about balance and checking their egos at the door under JT3, no one has become the poster child for the program more than Monroe.

While most of the freshmen in the country haven't lived up to expectations, the 6-foot-10 Louisiana native — regarded by many as the top player in the senior class a year ago — has been remarkably consistent.

He's scored at least eight points in all 11 games and has been in double-figures in nine. He's also one of the top passing big men in the country, regardless of his age.

"I know it sounds cliché, but all he cares about is winning," Thompson III said.

It would have been nice to ask Monroe, but he's still not allowed to speak to the media until the second semester per Georgetown rules that were set for freshman way back in the Big John Thompson Era.

It's alright, though. Monroe and the Hoyas said plenty.

I found this part of CO's writeup very interesting:

"One fun fact about UConn: as a reader, you might look at the defensive efficiency and net points total for H. Thabeet and decide that I'm clueless. Well, you may be right, but I was also surprised so I went and checked how a player with 7 blocks could be considered a defensive liability.

Turns out, Georgetown was able to recover 5 of those 7 blocked shots, thereby keeping the possession alive. The Hoyas ended up shooting 12/20 on dunks, layups and tip-ins, as they recognized that, while Thabeet's blocks are flashy, they don't serve as a hinderance to an effective inside scoring game."

One of the best things about Alonzo was that he could block shots and keep the ball in play much of the time, often recovering the block on his own. Sure, every once in a while, he'd try to stamp Spalding on someone's forehead, but he was really great at blocking a shot right to himself.

Thabeet's blocks are impressive, but it doesn't do UConn a whole lot of good when he blocks it into the third row and gives the ball right back to the opponent, especially when that opponent is as smart a team as Georgetown. I wonder how many times we scored after he blocked a ball out of bounds. I'm guessing it was a pretty high percentage. I'll have to re-watch the game to look for that.
