It also sounds like there'd be virtually no chance of Syracuse D.A. getting an assault charge to stick in a real court. So as far as justice goes, the campus kangaroo court is better than nothing.

I'm wondering how we can adopt the old "Beat your wife, Denny, beat your wife" chant used by the Rangers fans against Dennis Potvin.

Potvin sucks.
Some big "Inmates wear Orange" signs seem to be in order.

3) Finally, I love how Devendorf has been suspended from taking classes at SU, but Boeheim is allowing him to stay on the team pending his appeal. Wow. To be fair, it looks like he was found responsible for harassment (presumably less serious than assault, for which he was found not responsible). The recommended suspension of one academic term would likely begin in January (and certainly after any appeal) -- SU classes are already over for the semester (classes ended 12/5, exams end 12/12, easily within the period of appeal review); if the suspension is set aside until the appeal is complete, there is little reason for Boeheim to prevent Devendorf from playing, short of the distraction it might cause the team. In essence, I'd expect a coach to support his player while keeping the interests of the team as a whole paramount, mirroring the disciplinary action of the university, including severity, time-frame and reinstatement, if any. Still, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I love the comments on the SU board about Devo being a campus celeb and he gets bothered by fans and people all of the time and that that's somehow an excuse for a physical altercation with a woman. What then would happen if such behavior became acceptable, he makes a pro roster somewhere and now has money and fame and continues to get "bothered" by fans? As we've seen in the NY area, typically, the fame and money don't typically lend themselves to aiding athletes in making better decisions. I hope the punishment sticks and this kid wakes up to the fact that he's got some serious issues outside of his assist/turnover ratio.

Must be something with teams that have Orange as a color.... With the exception of Princeton of course (and maybe Bucknell and Oregon State under Craig Robinson)

That is really sick.
Who paid for that lawyer the players talked to?
How can SU stand by and let a member of their staff talk in direct contradiction to the finding of the school and an against their policies. I would be furious if i were an administrator at SU. Boeheim sound only slightly less sleezy than those that have defended on the message boards (and that is only because he is using full sentences).

To me, the most disturbing part of Boeheim's quote was this:
"Scoop Jardine last year was on probation," Boeheim said. "He got in trouble and was not thrown out of school. This is the same thing. And this is less than what Scoop did, I think."
It's sad when you have to justify your arguments by comparing them to another player's transgressions that happened just last year. It just sticks out at me - like he's saying "at least Devo didn't do what Scoop did last year." What a pathetic program.

"In the past, Boeheim said, he refrained from talking to reporters about ongoing cases because the university discourages participants from publicly discussing what happens in its closed-door review process. "
How often does this sort of thing happen at SU?

Can someone say "loss of institutional control?"
obviously not in terms of recruiting, and the school doesnt see too scared to discipline but clearly Boeheim has no ability to control his players and no interest to either.

The SU players' testimony would be more credible if it was offered in incomplete sentences. I wonder who Devo's character witness is - Paul "Gunshots at Graduation Party" Harris?
