Wanna bet the "appeal process" lasts until the end of March...?!? That way he can play while on appeal.

I found this comment interesting:
"Another example of athletes thinking they are better then everyone else. DOES ANYONE MEET WITH THESE CLOWNS ON A REGULAR BASIS.John Thomson , who I couldnt stand, used to have a lady advise the kids on academics etc and SHE SAT ON THE BENCH AT GAMES. Does SU have any brains."
tal--he punched a coed earlier in this semester. There's a thread on Pro & College with links to the original articles.

What did he do? Does anyone know? I couldn't find it (After a short search). According to a post on NDNation, Devendorf got in a fight a frat party and got kicked out, and the girl he punched was the girlfriend of [one of] the guy(s) he was fighting. I hadn't heard that first part before, but it gives more context to why he punched the girl (if true).

"The Judicial Board needs to be investigated"

Did he get a redshirt last year or no? I think he did which is a shame i was hopping this would be a career ending suspension.

Bottom line is that the kid was alleged to have hit a female co-ed and the syracuse board has ruled on the matter. if boeheim lets the kid play through the appeal process then it will be really embarrassing for the university if you ask me.
sean avery made some crude comments regarding a female and was immediately suspended. Devendorf has continued to play and the charge against him is physical violence against a female. Now the university has decided on the issue. The police have deferred to the university. to me the action that needs to be done is clear....boeheim has to suspend the kid indefinitely.

Devendorf has until 5 p.m. Thursday to submit to SU's Judicial Affairs Office in writing his intent to appeal the decision, according to a letter to Devendorf from Rami Badawy, SU's director of judicial affairs.
Devendorf then has until 5 p.m. Wednesday to submit a written appeal to judicial affairs, according to the letter.
The University Appeals Board then has 10 university business days to review the written appeal and render a written decision. It can modify the decision, reverse the decision or order a new hearing.

Quotes from this article are astounding: "Any player can still play while the case is under appeal," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim told ESPN.com on Wednesday, adding he will allow Devendorf to do just that (Syracuse's next game is Saturday against Long Beach State). The appeals process could take anywhere from 15 to 20 days, Boeheim said. "He's not going to be treated any differently" during that period, the coach said. This would NOT fly at Georgetown (at least with our basketball players). Thank you JTIII and all of the players for ensuring that this type of thing DOESN'T HAPPEN with our team. Kudos are in order, however, to the Syracuse University conduct board for giving Devendorf a punishment that fits the crime. One might even say that Devendorf is getting off easy considering the DA was ready to press charges.

Needless to say, if Devo is still playing for them a month from now, we better give him crap on a level you've never seen before. I totally volunteer to wear black eye makeup and hold the Devo Beat Me Up sign. And apparently the Judicial Board is mostly comprised of students.

I am actually a bit surprised at Boeheim here. I believe him to be a whiner and likely a cheater when it comes to recruiting, but I have never thought him to be someone who would condone punching a girl. The fact that he is allowing Devendorf to continue playing even during his appeal leads me to believe either that I was wrong about Boeheim or that there is more to this story.

Based upon the appeal timeline, he'll be playing through the Memphis game. He could miss the Big East season, though.
I believe the recommended suspension is because this is not his first infraction. There are plenty of idiots who get drunk and surly on college campuses (GU is no exception, though, perhaps, not at the level of other institutions and, hopefully, no longer particularly prevalent) and not all of them get suspended when their belligerence results in an assault. If this had been the first incident for Devendorf, I wouldn't expect anything more than a warning and some community service.
As for Boeheim, I'd expect just about any coach to allow the appeals process to play out before removing a player from the team, though I would also expect there to be some extra scrutiny of play and behavior at the same time.

I assume the written appeal will be written by someone who actually can write... namely from a different school. The gist of it will be, "Since when is it against the school's code of conduct to punch a woman?" Note to Devo - ignorance of the law is not a sufficient excuse.
As a rule, is it even possible for Boeheim to disallow this scumbag from playing? Doesn't that open the "school" up to liability if the decision is overturned? Or, since he's already been deemed guilty and it is a private school, is Magoo allowed to sit him?

Class act that kid. They should have expelled him.
