Just when you thought Alaska and Louisiana had firmly claimed the lead for political corruption, Illinois and Rod Blagojevich would like to remind you who is king of that game: abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/wireStory?id=6424108

Wasn't this moron already in a fair bit of trouble? Or at least somewhat tainted by the Rezco trial?
You'd think maybe he'd want to mind his Ps and Qs in the aftermath of that. Guess not.
Say hi to Joliet Jake for me, Governor.
(I enjoy when we liberals and conservatives can come together to vilify the truly corrupt in both parties).

Casualty list 2008: Ted Stevens William Jefferson Rod Blagojevich Larry Craig (tried to use his Senate status to stay in the bathroom stall) Elliot Spitzer Democrats and Republicans alike. While the casualty list of 2006 was mostly Republican, it looks bipartisan this year.

In reverse order of stupidity:
5. Stevens 4. Craig 3. Jefferson 2. Spitzer 1. Blagojevich (by a mile)

Obama on MTP on Sunday, when asked about Caroline Kennedy :
"The last thing I want to do is get involved in New York politics," he said on "Meet the Press." "I've got enough trouble in terms of Illinois politics."
I kinda thought that was a little cryptic when I heard it.

This puts Boston's own Dianne "Small Potatoes" Wilkerson in perspective.

Honestly, none of you guys have anything on San Diego for the utter combination of incompetence and corruption.
My personal congressman growing up, Randy "Duke" Cunningham, ran basically on a platform of being a fighter pilot. Then, you know, he sold out our military by giving contracts on the basis of who could give him what, not what supplier was superior.
But at least Randy got away with it for a while.
Two of our five city council members were indicted a couple of years ago for taking bribes from Cheetah's, the strip club. Our pension fund managers embezzled and defrauded the city of billions. About five? ten? years ago, about half of our federal judges were indicted for bribery. The list goes on and on.

Blagojevich on Obama, from the complaint: Sorry conservatives, I don't think Obama's going down on this one Also, Blagojevich had a 4% approval rating before his arrest this morning. I think we might be in store for the mythical 0% approval rating, everyone.

While it appears Bando is right that Obama comes out looking ok with regard to the machinations around the Senate seat, he is still probably pretty happy that none of the other charges came out in October, just for the taint by association.

There are several references in this complaint to the President-elect, many seeming to be in the nature of Blagojevich talking about positions could attain in return for naming the "right" Senator to replace Obama.
To be clear, I am not accusing the Obama administration of ANY wrongdoing. That is not indicated here at all.
What I am saying is that the Governor and his CoS sure seem to have had every intention of TRYING to involve the Obama administration in some wrongdoing. The transition team is probably cheering that they were arrested today.

What a mess! How can someone be that stupid and make it so far in politics? Most people at least have the sense to be oblique when they talk about bribery and corruption, but not Blago!
I should note though that Lisa Madigan, the state's attorney general, is also a Hoya. She actually was featured in a recent Georgetown Magazine, and many people have been tossing her name around as a future governor. Interesting to see what this means for her.

Page 5 really makes me sad.
"The Cabinet Position of Secretary of Energy is 'the one that makes the most money.' Deputy A stated that it is hard not to give the Secretary of Energy position to a Texan, but with Rod Blagojevich's coal background it might be a possibility."
Coal background is the last thing Obama should be looking at for SoE.
Also, if anything, it reads like the transition team had a hand on blowing the whistle on Blagojevich.
Whoever Emil Jones is, his political career is essentially over.

Smoking Gun says Senate Candidate 5 is Emil Jones, other sites are guessing Jesse Jackson, Jr. for Senate Candidate 5 (the really corrupt one).

Smoking Gun says Senate Candidate 5 is Emil Jones, other sites are guessing Jesse Jackson, Jr. for Senate Candidate 5 (the really corrupt one). Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Which cable network will be the first to display a Blagojevich "Mystery Date" screen, with unopened doors labelled "Candidate 1...?," "Candidate 5...." and "SEIU Official 1....," etc? I know a lot of the betting will probably favor Fox, but I'm going to go the other way and say CNN puts it out there first. MSNBC, of course, will not mention the story ;D (Just kidding....take it easy.)

If it is CNN, then the mystery doors will be holographs.
