Vol fan here. This is a very interesting match up. Contrasting coaching styles but teams that don't exactly fit the mold of past CBP and JT3 teams. This is a different UT team that I am still trying to get a good read on. We have had success in the past using an effective pressing defense, hustle, and 3 pt shooting. We have struggled with larger teams and with anyone who could break our press and force us into a half court game. However, this team seems different. We have not been very effective with our press but our half court D has been good as has our half court offense. Maze has been a godsend. We still depend on defense driven runs that provide seperation but not to the extend of prior teams. We are much longer this year and have some decent size inside. Outside shooting has not been as bad as I expected but it is not one of our strong points.
Ok who wins? I think UT but I can easily see GT winning. Lots of talent and young players on both teams. I think GT has to keep the turnovers below 12, control the glass, and keep the score in the 60's to win. All of which you guys are very capable of doing. I am really looking forward to the Monroe/Chism and the Summers/Smith matchups. Chism is a very under rated defensive player and has a nice offensive game but he can get in early foul trouble and just disappear. Summers needs to hold his own with Smith for GT to win imo. At the end of the day I think our pressure and our depth wears GT down and we win 76 to 68. However I would not be surpised at all if GT won 64 to 61 if Sapp has a solid game and limits TO's.

i'm going to focus on the positive there are 3 things we're doing a lot better this year. 1) driving the ball to the hoop. last year everyone was bemoaning the fact we had no dribble drive offense. now we do. 2) turning defense into offense. We do this a lot better this year than last year. 3) FT% is up across the board. I'll add another - we run better and finish our fast breaks better than last year.

I hope we push it. I think we have the horses to do so - esp off turnovers and def rebounds. I think the only problem is the lack of depth but it appears to me whole starting five likes to run. At this point in the season i think they are more comfortable running than they are in the half court set.
Should be a fun game to watch.

FWIW, Wichita State just beat Siena, so they aren't a complete pushover. I am a big believer in the effect of mental focus on sports and I'd take being the team coming off a scare any day over the team getting hyped after a blowout. I think the Hoyas will come out focused on execution and the boards - hope they sustain it!

I'm not to concerned about our season at this point in the game. My mood is subject to change and over-reaction.

One minor thought: think the refs are going to warn Tennessee about touching the ball after they make a basket? They've touched the ball and/or impeded someone from Georgetown from picking it up after a basket a few times, seemingly to properly set up pressure.

stupid turnovers from lazy passing is killing us. bogus fouls on greg. henry should try shooting from inside the 3 pt line. scrap the zone. they are killing us when we're in zone and we don't rebound well in zone. the guys are playing hard, we just need to stop turning it over so easily.

Who ever starts taking care of the ball will win. Way to many TOs on both sides. Good game but I am disappointted in how careless we are with the ball. I think the pace favors UT but if we don't take care of the ball it will not matter. You guys are doing a good job with the press.
