Wow those dunks were impressive. He has some springs and he gets off the ground quickly. If he was on the team right now he would be the best athlete on the team along with DaJuan. I am impressed. We need explosive athletes in this program. To many times we have been out "athleted" and this has to stop. LOL...Give me good basketball players. UNC had superior athletes in 07. We went to the Final Four.

We were outplayed, outhustled, out-toughed, and out-executed.
I don't remember us being out-athleted.

I don't know what out-athleted means, but other teams were clearly faster and stronger than we were on both ends of the court all year long. They also jumped higher.

Ok some of you guys obviously are clueless to what a superior college athlete is. Maybe because we dont have many causes you guys to remain unsure what they look like. Answer is they don't look like Sapp, Wattad, Nikita, Wright, Freeman, Vaughn or Monroe.
Now we have been out "athleted" by Memphis this year...St Johns twice ( I was there for both games) Tennessee, and Pitt just off the top of the head.

Bronx, do you really think that in our offense the premium is on a run/jump athlete? We don't run Roy Williams' or John Calipari's offense. When we execute against better athletes (UConn, Memphis) we win. When we don't (Tennessee, Louisville) we don't. Adding athletes will not help us win. Adding size? You bet. Adding combine champs? Only if they can play.

Of course I am talking about athletes who can play. I am not talking about putting Dan and Dave on the court.
Our team is loaded with plodders. Lubick and some of the other kids like Roscoe, Williams and Kendrick are athletes who are great prep players as well. Looks as if JTIII agrees with me and appears to have changed his recruiting philosophy athletically. I bet you don't see him offer the likes of Nikita an Wattad anytime soon. In bball you need to be athletic on the wings and we are not.

It's funny, but everyone said that the players on our team were vastly more athletic than the players we had that won.
We weren't outathleted anywhere this year except in that we don't do enough to win ourselves. We beat Memphis, despite being outathleted, as you say. And we did it for years.
The need isn't any better athletes than we've got -- I've got no issues with an athletic team but that isn't the biggest problem.

When the opponents whole strategy is to throw garbage at the backboard and offensive rebound and it works that is being out athleted. At that time the Memphis lacked finesse all they had were athletes. They beat us to every loss ball, every o rebound was theirs and they were much quicker runners and jumpers than us.
Like I said before look at the video of the kids JT3 is after. The wings are all athletic and long. He saw what I saw. Only those deficient in criticizing Gtown are missing what one of our seminal problems was this year.

All-
Nate can get up. probably gets 3 or 4 dunks a game. Don't think Jon Brockman or David Lee though. Different game.

bronxhoya,
you don't know what you're talking about. Chris Wright is one of the better athletes at point guard in the country. Monroe's not a great athlete in a jumping sense but he can run the floor with the best of them. Even freeman, when his weight is down, is a good athlete. I just saw the replay of the mcdonald's all-american game slam dunk contest. he finished second to blake griffin. you don't do that without being an athlete.

Nikita is one of the best athletes we've ever had, but the Princeton O is just not capable of showing off his athleticism.

Quick update and some good news for the board. Nate opened AAU season this weekend. His team played in New Jersey at the Playaz Spring Fling. They won the tournament and Nate won MVP. They defeated DC Assault in the finals and from all reports Nate outplayed Josh Hairston, possibly pretty lopsided (although iw as not there to confirm). I have been looking for some write-ups but cannot find any. If I do I will post. Hopefully some board detectives can find some on the net.

www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com/news/article/758/New-England-Playaz-Take-Spring-Fling-Title.phpmore love for Lubick's weekend performance: “Nate Lubick jumped on a plane after taking Saturday classes and played all weekend even though he was very sick. He was throwing up all weekend, including at halftime of the New Heights game.” Lubick was rewarded not just with a championship, but also with the tournament’s MVP award, although Gassanola says Lubick would have shared the award with Austin Carroll had the tournament allowed two winners. The duo’s toughness set the tone for the rest of the team while both were also invaluable against full court pressure as Lubick finished everything inside, Carroll made a variety of big shots in the championship win over D.C. Assault, and both showed their trademark headiness and ability to pass the ball."

No need for politics. He is white. Rex Chapman's are few and far between. I do think it has more to do with him being 6'8, 230 though.

I really like what I hear out of Lubick. He's got DaJuan's size -- if no one noticed. That's Summers' junior year of college size -- and can shoot like DaJuan. But is a big more of a banger.
I think our '10 class has the potential to be monster. We've got our PG of the future and a PF who can bang inside and still draw defenders out of the paint. Now we need a scoring (and defending wing) as well as another big to my mind. In '10 we'll have Vaughn as a senior and Sims as a junior and Lubick -- that's still a bit thin. Somewhere in '09 and '10 we need another big. Riley would have let us focus on wings (2/3) in '10; now we need someone to come in and provide depth early on and bigger contributions as Sims and Vaughn graduate.
