I know there is a lot of discussion concerning Californias referendum to ban gay marriages. What are some of the lesser election results that might have been somewhat under the radar, what with the first african-American President-elect? Here in Florida, a similar referendum as California's was adopted by a 60% + majority. Also, I heard that Michigan adopted medicinal marijuana. For some reason, I can't find an actual link, but I heard it on the news. Here is a link against the proposal from before the election: www.alexarends.com/Marijuana.htmSupposedly, medicinal use is legal in 13 states now, and has been adopted in all states that have put it to a vote aside from South Dakota. What are some of the other results from around the Country?

Washington voted to allow doctor-assisted suicide. Now WA and Oregon are the only states that allow it.

Massachusetts also decriminalized marijuana possession.

Bando, I caught the tail end of a story on the radio and wasn't sure if that was concerning Michigan or not. Since the wording was different, I thought it might have been a different state, but didn't hear more about it. So was it Mass. that decriminalized less than an ounce?
On a related note, that is what good old Barney Frank proposed a couple of months ago.
Also, if I heard corrctly, they decriminalized, not just possession but growth as well. I'm not sure how they will determine an "ounce" when it is still in growing plant form though.

I'm a little upset that Peter Boulware is probably going to lose in a recount in the Florida state legislature. He was a great Raven.
But congrats to Mayor KJ in Sacramento.

Massachusetts also decriminalized marijuana possession. Well...the maximum punishment for possession of 1 oz. or less of marijuana is now a $100 citation. You might say it's de facto decriminalization, but not de jure decriminalization.

Austin, not to be obtuse, but I think that "decriminalization" is a key step to legalization. But either way, it is a benefit to society. Instead of tying up police manpower and jail space locking up weed smokers, it is now a minor windfall, much like catching speeders on the road ... except without the danger associated with speeding.
Also, I saw where Arizona also banned gay marriage, by a higher percentage than California but less than Florida. I think it was 56% to 44%. For the record, Florida was 62% to 37%. Not sure what the other 1% did.

Also, I think I heard something about former Bengals coach, Sam Wyche, being elected for something.

Michigan legalized medicinal marijuana, I believe. Mass decriminalized the possession of marijuana.

Glad to hear it Layup. While it likely won't ever affect me, I am pleased when anywhere has more legalized gambling. It ticks me off when the only options are ripoffs like the State Lottery. Although slots are by far my least favorite casino game, it is a step in the right direction.

Massachusetts also decriminalized marijuana possession. Not to worry, the legislature we elect to represent work for get paid by us here will reverse this, just like they have rescinded just about every referendum passed by the people that they don't like since I have been living here. MA voters also approved referenda to permit medical marijuana prescription and to outlaw dog tracks (something akin the to CA chicken referendum).

Oulawing dog tracks? ? NO! Granted, when I go to Vegas, I always get a kick out of all the clowns sitting around watching/gambling on Palm Beach Dogs, but I certainly don't want them outlawed.

Although I never play slots at true casinos, at least MD will keep that revenue, rather than sending slot players to WV or DE.

It was an incredibly well-funded effort. The commercials had my 8 year-old telling me I needed to vote to stop people being mean to those poor doggies. I saw more lawn signs for Yes on 3 than I did for McCain/Palin.
