Wait. Wasn't there a recent report by balla or ID of another Africa player (a legit 7'2 player unlike Reik) who supposedly had even more upside that GU and Kentucky were going after?
I was referring to Reik. Latest reports have him looking unimpressive and injury prone, which may derail his straight to the league ride. Although I fully expect him to still go pro.

yeah, nobody will know about Reik or Aziz until the spring. I'm sure they will be monitored, but I would not consider them a priority. Of course if one of them actually qualifies for college and wants to come to GU, then I doubt the staff would turn them away...
Reik is struggling against average HS players right now.
I would guess that Riley is probably the next priority. I don't think a guard is at all needed in 2009, because we'll still have a really strong core unit in Wright, Free, Rivers and Clark, all of whom are going to be demanding minutes. Maybe Omar off the bench in a pinch. Plus, there are lots of great guards in the mix for 2010, so I suspect we'll probably wait until then to pick up our next wave of guards. There's a possibility we pick up somebody like McDonald or Creek or Lance Stephenson, but I'm not sure that's the top priority because it's not really a need area.
At Small forward we should be alright with Hollis now in the bag. DaJuan may stay 3 or 4, but with Nikita developing and figuring to grow into a nice player off the bench in the years to come, I doubt we pick up another small forward quite yet.
At Power forward, we're good for a while. Monroe might be here, but even if he isn't we've got Bras and Sims who are both probably 4's.
At center though, we could use some help. Locking up Riley some time soon would be SPECTACULAR. We could then rest easily knowing that our major needs are filled, and could focus on one or two of the best players in the class to try to be the icing on the cake. Also, I will say that I wouldn't be against taking 2 centers in one class, even if one red shirts. I don't know much about Rowley other than that he is 7', heavy, and from Trinidad and didn't pick up the game until rather late... If both he and Riley want to come, and the staff thinks Rowley has good potential, taking both might be a good idea... let Rowley come along a little slower... You can never have too much height.

I asked this on the Hollis thread, but it probably makes more sense here--can we get verbals for scholarships spots that are not yet open? With the Hollis commit, we have one spot currently left. I've seen at least a few people talking about us getting maybe 2 more guys for this class in addition to Hollis. Can that happen until we know we have an open spot? It's the morning after Thanksgiving and I'm probably a little groggy still from all the food, so excuse my wording if the question/posting makes little sense!!
You can get a verbal but you better be sure that spot is going to be open because if its not, it makes you look really bad. Also teams will still try and talk to players after they have verballed but before they sign the LOI so if its not clear where that open scholarship is coming from they will us that to convince the kid to verbal somewhere else.
I would assume if the staff was going to do that it would need be to understood to both the kids on the team currently and the kid coming in where that scholarship was coming from. That way kids don't think they are going to be run off the team, and the kid getting the scholarship knows the scholarship offer is legit and not a stalling tactic.
"The preseason poll is, for lack of a better way to put it, it's a popularity contest," Georgetown Coach John Thompson III said. "Once the ball goes up in the air in a couple of weeks, and once we start playing each other, we'll be able to sift through and see where we really stand."
Until a formal announcement is made regarding who is and who is not on scholarship, the situation will not be 100% clear to the rest of us, only to the coaching staff and administration. So, let's trust the staff not to mislead recruits.
There’s a saying in the college basketball world that teams play like the coaches that lead them. This will be true of Georgetown under Cooley’s staff as well. “Discipline is a staple. Toughness, energy, connection, and enthusiasm. Those things will also be staples of our organization,” he said.

Agreed. I feel like this is a perpetual point of discussion on the board, but let's leave it to the staff to take care of stuff like this.

Don't forget that scholarships only last for one season, although it is general practice to renew a player's scholarship for each season he is eligible.
Has this been posted before? If so, I missed it. Maybe others missed it too. Is it just a coincidence that Dashonte Riley wears #33? Sure would be nice to see a sharp shooting, shot blocking Hoya Center wearing a #33 jersey.
I will, but she gave me some sweet potato pie, which imo, is far superior as a dessert for Thanksgiving. Seriously, when I did the piece on DR in October, she texted me and said thanks, but it was Da and not De.
