I thought one of The Economist live bloggers made a good point that Cain is enjoyable in much the same way a sitcom is: you know the gags and you know they're coming. Gingrich and Romney actually turned to each other and shared a hysterical laugh when he turned the bridge question after the last break into 9-9-9. Good stuff. Seems like it might be Huntsman's turn to be the not Romney candidate, CNBC certainly gave him ample time tonight. Has plenty to say, would be interesting to see what some momentum would do to his ability to say it. I think it is Gingrich's turn to be the not-Romney candidate. His polls are rising and he had a good performance today--Good answers to questions, he clearly knows his stuff and you know conservatives like their politicians to challenge the media.

Conservatives hate Gingrinch for some reconciliation with the Clintons, his endorsement of action re: global warming, and for some poor endorsement choices in a New York race a while back. He won't be the choice of conservatives.

He won't be the choice of conservatives. I think the bigger problem for most conservatives should be the fact that he's a jumped-up community college professor with serious delusions of grandeur, with less substance than a Thomas Friedman column. He's an oleaginous self-promoter worthy of Jesse or Al, and his reputation for wonkiness is mostly wishful thinking on the part of people who succumb to his lofty Obamaesque rhetoric. But mostly it's the fact that there's an invisible 12-foot high neon sign over him that screams CREEP! in a way that even a Penn State administrator couldn't miss. His image may have been rehabbed amongst inside-the-Beltway types over the past 15 years, but just go ask any normal American who was awake for the mid-90s and they probably have a fixed impression of him that is not going to change between now and November 2012.

Ok, I meant primary voters, not conservatives. Still, he's where the anti Romney vote is going next.

There are a lot of criticisms you can lob at Newt Gingrich, many of them deserved.
Lacking substance is not even close to one of them.

Awwww, is someone getting cranky about living under President Romney? There are a lot of criticisms you can lob at Newt Gingrich, many of them deserved. Lacking substance is not even close to one of them. Yeah, I'm not sure where that is coming from. Gingrich is probably the most knowledgeable on most of the issues. His ability to go all the way back on Social Security to LBJ putting it into the general budget was probably the most impressive answer of the night (short, of course, of Cain's answer on the bridge ;D)

I would also say that oleaginous is not one of them, but I don't know anyone who knows what oleaginous means. ....not even Newt Gingrich.

Yeah, I'm not sure where that is coming from. Gingrich is probably the most knowledgeable on most of the issues. His ability to go all the way back on Social Security to LBJ putting it into the general budget was probably the most impressive answer of the night (short, of course, of Cain's answer on the bridge ;D) "The key is there is $2.4 trillion in Social Security which should be off budget, and no president of the United States should ever again say because of some political fight in Washington, I may not be able to send you your check. That money is sitting there. That money is available." ... You mean that answer?

Gingrich is certainly knowledgeable but he's the next round of the GOP "flavor of the month club" that sees W. Mitt Romney as the next John McCain and can't find a suitable national alternative.
Like Bachmann, Ryan (briefly), Christy (even more briefly), Perry, and Cain before him, Gingrich's shelf life is probably a month, when Jon Huntsman will get a few weeks in the media spotlight as the "electable" alternative. Romney will keep plugging along with his 25% right to the convention.

I have three points. One, Rick Perry is a terrible debater. Two, his performance tonight has to fatally damage his campaign, no? Three...uh...third...uh... ;D Oops! I'll bet Perry is thinking this running for President thing is not such a hot idea.

There's a real cut-off point here, though, right? At some point, you have to have your fundraising architecture, ground game, messaging, and all other campaign infrastructure in place, and I think that point was several months ago. The nominee is already running.

I think TC was making a joke. Either that or TC is Nate Silver. ;D
No. No one who is not currently running can feasibly run. No matter how much Bill Kristol or Erick Erickson may beg (and neither of them would be begging Sarah).
DFW called it right, IMO. Well, except that his numbers will go up as the primaries go on; he won't stay at 25%. But it is Romney's nomination to lose. The only excitement will be which conservative he chooses as VP to appease the hardcore conservatives.

Do I need to put smileys on everything like that now? C'mon.
If DFW's scenario plays out - Romney wins the nomination, Huntsman who has very few distinctions from Romney other than consistency of positions comes in second, and then Romney loses to Obama, I think Huntsman is the 2016 frontrunner - just like he's been gunning for all along.

I think there's been more logical arguments been put forth on UFO boards.
I'll diagram one of the arguments just for fun:
Sharon Bialek lives in Chicago Herman Cain never lived in Chicago Herman Cain couldn't have sexually harassed Sharon Bialek David Axelrod lived in the same apartment building ? ? ? Profit

Maybe it's time you give this Palin lady a second look.
