I seem to recall people picking out a few racist signs at Tea Party rallies and using those to paint all Tea Party members racist. I'm just trying to use a similar method to paint all Democrats as believing the Pope is a Nazi. Of course they both are stupid attempts. Oh, well thank you for perpetuating the cycle then. I look forward to the next time one of our left-leaning posters brings up some generalized attack on Republicans based on the words of a small sample population (or in this case, just one random person). And then, when you call them on it, they can reference the Susan Sarandon discussion. And then, the next time you do the same thing, you can reference their post. And the circle of life continues... Did it ever occur to you that I posted the Sarandon thingy just for the purpose of saying "if this were a Republican or a conservative" some left-winger would extrapolate it to all Republicans or conservatives? Get your crayons and next time I'll give you instructions on how to draw inferences.

Dude, stop. It's the Democratic Party. You're just being childish at this point. Of all the things posted on this board, that's what bothers you? Really? Is it more or less childish than a picture of a lesbian loving (hating?) dinosaur? So you're response is, essentially, "you started it"? Thanks for proving my point. And for the record, "lesbians" is descriptive.

For such a "simple proposal," Cain seems to have a ton of trouble defending and actually explaining the 9-9-9 plan, unless you count repeatedly telling the other candidates they don't understand and then directing everyone to your website. I'm not sure erasing the tax code to raise taxes on 84% of households while you embark on a public education mission to explain why erasing the tax code you just implemented for a thirty percent federal sales tax is a good idea.

The debate last night was disheartening. Ron Paul, though making lots of sense on some issues and no sense on others, continues to sound like an old man yelling at his neighbor. Santorum always seems like he's about to burst open, red-faced and all. Perry, though coming across with more stage presence than in prior debates, seems to be running on two issues: "drill baby drill" and "I created jobs in Texas". Cain had difficulty explaining his 9-9-9 plan which he says is simple to understand, but still comes across as genuine and likable. Romney, on the other hand, seems to be up on the issues but has a thin skin and is not partcularly likable. Bachmann was the most polished of anyone on the stage but her specifics are lacking. Newt continues to be the adult in the crowd, the most thoughful, but not electable. Having said all that, there are still a few of them I could vote for over the current president.

I agree with many of Ed's points detailed above. Gingrich has acquitted himself much better than I thought in these debates, but to your point, he is about as electable as Santorum is. Bachmann's time has passed, as she is reduced to mentioning "I will repeal Obamacare!" at every passing mention, presumably before building a fence just over half the size of the Great Wall Of China.
Cain and Huntsman both have ideas but lack the staff to do the heavy lifting in Iowa and NH, though Huntsman is smart enough to know he needs to focus on NH because independents vote there.
I don't agree with everything Ron Paul says, and most people don't, but I admire his persistence to say unpopular things, whether sound (the debt crisis) or less so (taking troops out of S. Korea, eliminating all foreign aid, etc.). Of course, unpopular ideas are no way to get elected.
In the debate, Romney pulled a old political move by putting his hands on Perry's shoulder to lecture him on a subject. If Perry pulls back, it would make him look angry, instead, it looked like Romney was teaching him a lesson. Perry fired the illegal immigration salvo in an attempt to disrupt Romney but Mitt didn't let it stick.
Still, it's Romney's race to lose and while he still might be the next John McCain, his message is becoming sharpened in these debates.

That Romney move was right out of the LBJ playbook. Lots of media outlets ran with that photo too.
Romney didn't get dinged on it at the time but I thought he stepped in it badly when he said something to the effect of "When I found out there was an illegal immigrant working for me, I told my staff that we can't have this, I'm running for office etc." Huge opening for Perry to tie this (basically meaningless) episode to the chief critique of Romney - that he is all ambition and no conviction.
I'm biased by disagreeing with pretty much all of them on pretty much everything, but Romney is running circles around these guys right now, IMO. For him to lose, someone has to beat him, and I have no idea who that could be.

I much more enjoyed the SNL version of the debate, which involved each candidate being located according to their polling location: Romney and Cain were in the main room; Rick Perry was in the corner; Gingrich and Bachmann were locked in a janitorial closet and told only one would return for the next debate; Ron Paul was in the parking garage and Jon Hunstman was given the wrong address.
Oh, they put Santorum in a gay bar.
It was a pretty funny SNL overall even if what I really got out of it was "Why is Drake popular?" (Counterpart: Andy Samberg's "(blank_ Interview with Drake) was brilliant.

Or cross-dressers or something. Nature sure is difficult.

I can't decide whether Herman Cain is a genius....
....or whether he just told America that he is not a witch.
Perhaps, a la Abe Simpson, a little from Column A, a little from Column B.

I think Americans just don't know sometimes which Herman Cain they're dealing with. Is it the Herman Cain that was on the side of against talking about these allegations before he was for talking about these allegations? Was it was before he was before the financial settlement from the standpoint of he was unaware of a settlement before he was aware of a settlement? Ah, he was putting his hand to his chin to indicate his wife's height. He's calling them baseless, and now he's saying it's in the eye of the beholder. I mean we'll wait until tomorrow to see which Herman Cain we're really talking to tonight.

Romney really has the same problem in my opinion. To their credit, I don't think conservatives will forget that he is a Massachusetts librul. Apart from that, the only steady part about him is his hair.
My $.02.

Herman Cain is not qualified to be president. Romney is the most qualified Republican but is not very likable. Where is Paul Ryan when we need him?
