The Democratic party should sent a note to Hollywood every four years begging them just to Shut up for a couple of months.

Poor Joe. I like him, I really do (not policy-wise of course, just in general). But the guy can't get his name in the news these days unless he screws up.
It's refreshingly candid, I'll give him credit for that, but you just can't say stuff like that.
And of course, you can now expect those Web rumors about Hillary replacing Biden that have been quietly smoldering in the tubes for a few days to burst into flame, Backdraft style.
I don't give it ANY credibility, but we'll be hearing about it for the next couple of days. The cable news networks just got a block filled for tonight.

Well, we're dealing with different levels of stupidity here. To me, what Biden said is relatively harmless. Dan Quayle said dumber things at least 1,000,000,000,000 times. On the other hand, the statement by the lady in South Carolina was absurd, and the statement by Rep. Cohen passes into another realm altogether. Of course, all this shows is that Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson don't have a monopoly on making dumb religion-based statements.

What do you think Turks and Arabs, et al., put on their U.S. census forms and university applications?

Of course, all this shows is that Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson don't have a monopoly on making dumb religion-based statements. I'm trying to be objective here, and as we would hopefully all agree, it is difficult when the subject matter is inherently subjective. That being said, I think the opposite. I think that Obama could be given somewhat of a pass. Since Palin used the reference, a response by Obama using similar language is reasonable, even if harsh. Fowler's comments are also unkind and somewhat pointed, but could be somewhat excused as a joke among constituents that is "merely" offensive. Biden's comment though, was without a doubt totally insensitive and out of line. As I said before, I think the plan all along was to throw that out there, begging for a response from the McCain campaign and then highlight the fact that Palin cut funding for those with special needs. The problem was that "fact" was entirely false. So what we are left with is what appears to be nothing but a rude, insensitive barb lofted at Palin for essentially no reason. Personally, I find that comment the most offensive of the bunch.

The Democratic party should sent a note to Hollywood every four years begging them just to Shut up for a couple of months. Perhaps the Democratic Party should send a note to ALL of Obama's supporters begging them to Shut up for a couple of months. www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/11/politics/horserace/entry4442097.shtmlNow, don't get me wrong. I'm sure there are plenty of people on this message board who think that Sarah Palin is a "cocky whacko." That's fine. But for a public political figure to come out with that? No, sorry, you don't do that. Not if you want to actually GAIN credibility for yourself or the candidate you support. And not if you want to change the news cycle about crazy attacks against Sarah Palin. One really has to wonder what the hell is going on. (I know Chaffee is not part of the Obama campaign, just a supporter, but Obama's got to shut these people up somehow; it is NOT helping). Of course, it's entirely possible that Chaffee was not referring to Palin directly, but rather "cocky whacko" is an expression he uses all the time. It doesn't mean anything against her.

I think that the Republicans should send a note to all their hypocritical supporters to Shut up: www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=184086&title=sarah-palin-gender-card Also this isnt about a he said she said election -- there are some SERIOUS issues that need to be ersolved in this country, and there is no question that McCain holds nearly the same views and policies as Bush...No question. Therefore, if you believe that the past 8 years improved our country than vote for McCain, if not then Obama. It is that simple.

You are a ray of brilliance on what is otherwise a foolish and muddled board. I can't tell whether your treatises on Georgetown sports (by dropping football we can become Stanford!) or politics (summing up the entire election in one sentence) are better, but we're all better for having heard them. The people with all the answers are the ones to watch out for.
