i'd worry much more about the game at iowa than the game against sparty if i were a psu fan. michigan state can't hang with a team that can contain ringer. hoyer is garbage and will crap himself against a good defense like psu. the only way he plays well is if charles stewart and steve brown are playing safety for psu.

fanNY, I would normally agree with you, but I think Penn St gets a great boost by having an off week prior to the Iowa game. They'll be ready. As a Gator fan, I'd love to see them get knocked off, but I just don't see it.

Translation for those outside of Big 10 or who don't follow the Big 10--they'll "SPARTY UP" the game.

Iowa's been playing alot better as yet and has a coach, who in my opinion is fighting for a job. Those factors in addition to the fact that it's a home game for Iowa makes that Penn St biggest challenge left, bye week or not. Still think they'll get blown out if they play any of these teams of national championship: Texas, OU, Florida, Georgia, USC, Alabama

For the record, I don't really think PSU will lose a game this regular season. Just trying to stir up the Nittany Lion faithful, who have been a bit touchy in the past when I have commented on their program.

Would love to see Bama beat them again for a title 30 years later. Paging Mike Guman.

Just curious SF, how does one come to be a fan of Georgetown and Penn St and be from/in San Fran?

Grew up until I was 11 in Western Pennsylvania. Both parents went to Penn State - Dad was also a Pirates/Browns fan. Moved to San Diego, gradually became a Chargers/Padres fan given locale and season tickets. Gave up on Browns when they moved; Pirates when they let Bonds go.
Became a fan of Georgetown when I went there. Because a minor fan of USC a few years earlier when my sister went there.
Moved to San Francisco because I like the West Coast, and because it is close but not too close to home.

I hope Penn State runs the table and plays in the title game. They will have a chance to win it.
A "one-loss SEC team" would be the unimpressive Tide or the winner of Florida-Georgia. I know this because there is no chance of any other team finishing the year with one loss. The next best team in the SEC is LSU and that century mark laid on it in its two lossess. The SEC is usually good, but not this year.
The Big XII plays no defense. Texas is good but at some point 89% completion percentages are not a product of well-run offenses. Penn State is blowing out teams. If they're undefeated, put them in. There are a handful of good teams dotting a bunch of mediocre conferences. The Big Ten is bad, but it's only slightly worse than the Big XII or SEC; not the chasm it usually is.

Let's have Bama/PSU in the title game and watch the Tide win again.

Let's have Bama/PSU in the title game and watch the Tide win again. Let's have Matt Suhey's kid (he's on the team) dive in on 3rd and avenge the loss.

Week 10 Picks for Games That Matter:
Minnesota over Northwestern -- Gophers inch closer to TBird's dream scenario Miami (FL) over U. Va. -- I hesitate to pick an Al Groh team no matter how many victories the Cavs gut out Air Force over Army in Commander in Chief Trophy Game #2 West Virginia over UConn Kansas over K-State for the Governor's Cup Western Michigan over Eastern Michigan in a Michigan MAC Trophy Game Arkansas over Tulsa Notre Dame over Pitt Cal over Oregon FSU over Ga. I knew there was a method to the madness, and I was close. I figured you were a California guy who went to GU and for obvious reasons, had to adopt a football team other than the Hoyas, but not one which would be any sort of "bother" come hoops season. Either way, I guess I was kind of close. As you have probably heard, I adopted the Hoyas as my second team when I lived in Arlington for a couple of summers. Back then we were a total non-factor in hoops, but my aunt and uncle were big Hoya fans. I was rewarded with a real team to pull for in the (especially mid) 80's. It's no surprise that my hibernating interest has been awoken in recent years. One question: since you "lost interest" in the Pirates when they "let Bonds go," what were your thoughts when the Giants picked him up? How about now that he is gone again? Lastly, you probably don't think nearly as much of Fransico Cabrera and Sid Bream as I do, do you? and I quote: "Braves win, Braves win! The Braves win!" Yes, I know it was essentially stolen from the Yankees announcer whose name eludes me for some reason, but I know I'll never forget it. That is one of the 3 most vivid memories from our first house. The other two were PPV Tyson fights and the Gators last second comeback against Kentucky on the road ... '93 I think. AS for the "close, but not too close to home comment," I understand completely. Most of my family is scattered around "somewhat" close as well, while most of my wife's is "somewhat" close, in the greater Tampa Bay area. Lastly, Austin, what is your take on the Notre Dame-Pitt game? I saw that you picked the Irish. I don't believe in jinxes, but I am physically unable to pick a Notre Dame game properly if it matters at all. The only way I can ever "win," is to pick them to win. Then after they lose, at least I have "won" by making it happen to them.

I am obviously not a Francisco Cabrera fan. Sid was a Pirate before he was a Brave, so I never disliked him. I think "X wins" is probably one of the most common calls ever -- so I don't think anyone has the license on it.
I never became a Giants fan -- I was already a Padres fan, and that'd be like you following Glavine to the Mets or something. I also viewed Bonds more as a traitor then. I really didn't know the Bobby Bonds/Mays backstory and I certainly was buying the owners' line of "greedy players." As his personality became more apparent, I liked the guy less and less, but he was still an amazing player.

Thou shalt not doubt my grammar. Sometimes my typing gets a bit sloppy, and of course, sometimes my friend Mr. Weiser might have a little too much input ... and of course there was that one time I only had one contact lens in ... oh yeah, there was also ... nevermind.
But yes, it is a word.

In that case, perhaps I'm splitting hairs here, but wouldn't the sentence have read better to say that "my hibernating sensibilities have been awakened in recent years?" "Awoken" makes me think I've awoken in the middle of Tom Sawyer (which isn't a bad thing).
