Yes, Finally!
There are two games nationally tonight: South Carolina vs. NC State at 8pm and Oregon St. vs. Stanford at 9pm, both times eastern daylight.
I am going to jump out on a limb and take South Carolina and ... I'm tempted to take Stanford ... oh, what the hell, it's only for mythical pride anyway, let's take the Cardinal in a modest upset.

RDF, almost forgot ... don't your boys play School for the Deaf and Blind tonight ... or some equally inept team? Sounds like a good way to break in that true freshman QB.

Actually this team (Charleston Southern) is replacing North Texas-who backed out of the game after Missouri backed out of their game scheduled with Miami. Miami has never ducked anyone--unlike your boys--who play nobody unless it's an instate team--and Tebow forbid, you might have to travel outside of Florida to play someone in non conference. Well Mr. Know It All-maybe you should've done your homework before mouthing off. BTW--after playing your scumballs next weekend in the Dump, Canes have to travel to College Station to play at A&M-that is TEXAS A&M--we know how you Lizards only know of FAMU.

Nobody cares about the MAC here, I'm sure, but UB dismantled UTEP last night, opening what promises to be their best season since making the jump to 1-A a few years ago.
Turner Gill is going to be a major program coach soon, especially after the Bulls win the MAC East crown and play in the first bowl game in school history this season.
EDIT: Not to mention, Ball State could be this year's Boise State and play BCS spoiler if they take care of business the way many think they could.

Pac 10 delivers again--the Stanford-Oregon State game was easily game of night and reason why I love those crazy west coast bastards!! ;D It was ruined by ESPN coverage--but can't ask for everything----well yes I can--FSN has Barry, Petros, and Watty covering Washington-Oregon Saturday Night. Pac 10 forever!!

Pac 10 forever!! Argh -- I was watching Obama and missed the wackiness. Wasn't it the Franklin/Cunningham/Arute team doing this game? They're usually not terrible. Buff, I did notice the score of the UTEP-UB game. Pretty shocking -- UTEP is down this season but the Miners are far from a bad program. Nice to see progress at a newish I-A school. I did watch the massacre at Floyd Casey last night. Mainly tuned in to see if Robert Griffin III is the next coming of VY (he's not). Art Briles has apparently brought a new defensive scheme to Waco called the Colander Zone Package. The basic premise is that there should be no blitzes or stunts, and all defensive players should allow themselves to be blocked by the opposing offensive players. Allow a good 8 yard cushion on all receivers at all times. It's embarrasing how bad some Big 12 defenses have gotten.

Allow a good 8 yard cushion on all receivers at all times. It's embarrasing how bad some Big 12 defenses have gotten. Do you think it's because too many teams are forgetting you put your best athletes on defense--when you don't have the talent other schools have? Or do you think it's just awful coaching? ESPN sucks--there is nothing about that network that I like. Even worse--is how they promote Kirk Herbstreit as all knowing and the guy is clueless on so many issues regarding football it's not even funny. My favorite is how he keeps saying "You better use the spread if you want to get recruits--because guys want to go to the NFL"--which is so far off I'll begin with 2 factors: 1. College FB doesn't need to be like NFL-so you do what works to give your program best chance to win/maximize talent--no matter what system you run on offense. 2. Spread offense has hurt many QB's and WR's--because they don't know how to take a snap, read coverages, and WR can't run any route other then Go route. Passing versions haven't helped either--look at Texas Tech. I do think Michael Crabtree will translate to NFL but he's exception to rule from Tech--with Welker being other. Danny Amendola is a joke with Dallas--and will be cut once they get their WR healthy. 3. He's stating this because Ohio State is going to incorporate the Spread. Anything Herbstreit says has an agenda--and Ohio State is usually who he's trying to help. The guy is overexposed and the only thing more annoying then his commentary is when he calls games--with Musberger and they start talking about who is the "best team" and "BCS favorites" in week 1/2, etc...Heisman contenders and anything but the game they are calling--because they feel a 10 pt lead is "safe" for the team with lead. ESPN SUCKS!!!

RDF, I didn't mean to imply that you don't play anyone in general, just that you did have a patsy, and it was worth mentioning that it is a good way to break in a freshman QB. But if you want to get offended by my comments, please feel free, just don't charge me for it.
As for my team's schedule, in our two Title years, we had the hardest schedule in the Nation as graded AFTER the season, not before, which means a lot.
In general, FSU plus an 8 game SEC schedule that always includes Georgia, Tennessee and LSU isn't too shabby. And if game 1 was any indication, that Miami game next week might not be as easy as originally expected. Additionally, it's not our fault that Hawaii looks to be somewhat down after being at least a solid team for a couple of years.
On another note, I will pat myself on the back for nailing both of my picks in South Carolina and Stanford with the upset.

i am going to have to agree with hifi for once. Anyteam that has to play in the SEC cannot have their schedule labled as soft regardless of the OOC schedule. I am sure Pops (JTII) would agree with that assessment.

Good lookin' out, Austin! The Bulls will probably take a lickin' at Pitt next week, but anything's possible...
RDF - did Herbie really say you need to institute the spread because it will help pump players to the NFL, thus making it easier to land recruits??? Wow! That's ridiculous, and I would guess running the spread HURTS a quarterback's chances at being a successful, dominant NFL QB.
Sure, it might help get you there because you put up stats and win a few trophies at the end of the year, but until you learn how to (as you said) read a defense from under center and run an offense that doesn't involve five-wide a good amount of the time, you'll just be another flameout who was nothing more than a "college" or "system" quarterback.

Eric Crouch and Charlie Ward can easily vouch for this. But seriously, when's the last time Ohio State had a QB who was great in college and went on to be great in the pros? I can't think of one, unless the jury is still out on Troy Smith. RDF, Baylor's athleticism on defense is terrible, but they played the same weak zone all night and WFU ate it up. If Jim Grobe were Tom Osborne WFU would have hung 60 on the Bears last night.

This Cuse/Northwestern game is fun. Its nice to see the anouncers fall over themselves to explain to us ignorant viewers what a "hurry up offense" is

Good thing OSU was trying to get Beanie Wells the Heisman by racking up TDs against Youngstown St. Excellent plan.

I'm conflicted. Do I get excited about the Utes going into the Big House and making Michigan look bad for 3 quarters? Or do I remember that I always think UM (and the Big 11) are always overrated and the win wasn't that big of deal.

Real banner weekend for the ACC: East Carolina 27 Va Tech 22 (on ESPN) USC 52 Virginia 7 (on ABC) Bama 34 Clemson 10 (on the Natl TV ABC Primetime game) Couple that with the nationally televised 34-0 beatdown South Carolina put on NC State, and two one-score wins over FCS teams--Maryland 14-7 over Delaware and UNC 35-27 over McNeese State. Well, parity is parity I guess.

Well, parity is parity I guess. Clemson is on right path--they just need a coach now. Tommy Bowden is a tool--and tonight was another example. I don't usually agree with anything Boy Wonder Herbstreit says--but he's dead on about the chaos/bickering on that team that took place tonight. Coaches lost their composure early and why that #83 ever took the field on offense for Clemson was beyond me. He was not only an awful looking player, he was stupid and made dumb mistakes. Clemson's defense was SOFT and poorly coached and they were really an embarrassment tonight. Sad thing about ACC--the league sucks. Good news for them--Miami and FSU could win the league this year--that is how mediocre it appears-and sooner these 2 return to be their best 2 teams--better for their league. Miami is going to lose next weekend in Gainesville--but really appears it should be their only loss heading into ACC play--as Texas A&M lost to Arkansas State in College Station-behind the "great" Stephen McGee. Just play Jarrod Johnson and get a playmaker on the field sooner rather then later. ACC's problem-****ty QB play. The best QB in league is Riley Skinner of Wake Forest-and after him--you could argue that Robert Marve and Jacory Harris of Miami are next in terms of physical talent--with the true FR from FSU being in there as well. Bad QB play is a killer for any league. Cullen Harper stunk tonight and that reckless flip to nobody was worst play I watched all day. Frank Beamer's team losing because of special teams--that "never" happens. When will the media wake up and realize that "Beamer Ball" excels against mediocre teams and anytime he plays against legit teams--they let him down and he's usually beaten due to the opposing team's superior play in that category. Sean Glennon is inept and the choice to sit Tyrod Taylor was beyond stupid--it cost him a game.
