"70 and Sunny? Check." Wasn't it W.C. Fields that said something to the effect of "the coldest I've ever been was in San Francisco in July"? Actually, it was Mark Twain, and the exact quote was, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." That said, mornings in what I always knew as "The City" tend to be foggy and cold, but it usually clears up by the afternoon, then it gets cold again at night. According to weather.com, today's afternoon forecast is 64 and sunny, so we can forgive SFHoya for being off by 6 degrees.

Lock, or send to the political board. Lock YOU, or send YOU to the political board. On second thought, maybe this has deteriorated.

another point of contention. The 5 boroughs need to be split up. NYC isn't one city it's 5 cities that we're pretending are one. or more accurately it's one city Manhattan and we included the suburbs as well and pretend it's still part of the city. It would be like including bethesda, arlington, alexandria, silverspring, and pretending all of them plus DC count as washington DC.
and i've been to other parts on NY brooklyn, the bronx and queens. I've seen most of the city but obviosuly most of my experience is manhattan. I'm not impressed. NY is no better than any other city and it's inhabitants better learn this fact.

HSB - So you've seen the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, and you have spent time around the Garden during the BET. Well aren't you a walking almanac of all things New York, then? Your equating the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens to suburbs (and the snoozefests of Bethesda, Arlington, Alexandria and Silver Spring, no less) speaks volumes about your level of familiarity with those places. Sorry to say, you are beyond help.

Actually, it'd be like getting rid of SE, NE, and SW (DC's equivalent to Staten Island). They might not be as cool as NW, but DC would not be the same without them. Bethesda and Arlington are more like Long Island and Yonkers. They aren't a part of DC, but since no one outside of the area has really heard of them, people try and claim DC for convenience. Not the same. And New York is better than other cities; if you can't admit that then you're not being objective at all. It just doesn't make you a better person because you live there or if, like me, you're from there.

If only ESPN could do a relative ranking of the sports accomplishments of these various cities, then we would finally know which city is best.
Unfortunately such analysis is beneath the bastion of media excelence in Bristol

I'm amazed that someone mentioned Staten Island in this discussion.
Wu Tang, MF'ers.

I'm disappointed that my attempt to start a fight hasn't yielded better results. Oh well. It served it's purpose to entertain me at work. Thanks.

And Admin showed remarkable restraint in not moving this off the main board about 3 pages ago. Either that, or they were just having a busy day... By the way, that quote is not really attributable to Mark Twain. www.snopes.com/quotes/twain.aspAnd for another potentially on-topic apocryphal story... I remember hearing that the only two man-made structures on earth that were visible from the moon were the Great Wall of China and the Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island. On edit - of course it's apocryphal, but I have no idea where the Fresh Kills reference came from. www.snopes.com/science/greatwall.asp

Filo - I've been telling people that about Fresh Kills for years. I don't really know where I got it from, either. But I'll continue to say it. We have so little.

Give me a random sample of 1000 people from NY and 1000 from DC and the DC 1000 will be hotter.
also New York is not better than other cities, ill say this and i am being more than objective.
Finally, New York is overrated, period

Wu Tang Clan and Fresh Kills -- that's not enough? Throw in Todt Hill (former home to Paul Castellano) and the Staten Island Tuxedo, and you have more than anyone could ask for.

Finally, New York is overrated, period I think it's both. NYC is overrated, but I also think it's the greatest city on earth. (not that I'd want to live there - visiting is just fine with me). I can't believe I missed this whole conversation.

How in the world did you all manage to get four friggin' pages out of this thread? A lot of free time and a desire to engage in meaningless debate. Where were you this whole time?
