The easy answers are Jeff and Reggie.
He's not in the same class, but Brandon was really a very good all-around player.

I guess it depends on how you interpret ID's direction: The player "who could do everything and did". Win a game with a three point shot Get a key rebound Drive and dunk Play awesome D and Miss crucial free throws Disappear in games Lose the ball on drives keep chucking out or rhythm, off balance treys with no teammates in position to rebound and.... Foul an opponent as he is shooting a last second three when you have a 4 point lead |

I think it would have to be Reggie.
Rebounding
Great D
Ball handling
Passing
Finish
Shoot well
Shoot from deep
Hit FTs
Be the team leader
Hit BIG shots
Get KEY boards
Jeff would be a really good choice too.
But he couldn't shoot from deep as well as Reggie
and he couldn't, or wouldn't or didn't take over games as often as Reggie
Better passer though
Craig Shelton is a good one too.
But for best all around player - biggest impact on the game, team, program, guy-you'd-most-lie-to-have-on-the-team.... gotta be big Pat.

Brandon was a plus perimeter defender (for college) and was at least average at PF by the time he was done at GU. Brandon was skinny but was a good rebounder for his size. Brandon had an unorthodox handle but had an amazingly quick first step that allowed him to score off the dribble. He could hit a three. He shot FTs well. He was a decent passer. He was a very good cutter and finisher. We haven't had a lot of Hoyas who could really play the 3/4 and show up at these ranks on the the all-time records list: Scoring: 12th Rebounding: 11th 3 Pt FGs: 9th Assists: 23rd Steals: 14th Blocks: 15th Yes, a lot of that had to do with this number: Starts: 6th I fully acknowledge him not being in the upper echelon, but he was an all-around player. |

SF... I know he was an all around player and I know what you were getting at. I get it. I was just kidding... should have put those smiley faces in there... about the Good Brandon/ Bad Brandon bit. If not for his evil twin, BB would have been an awesome player!
Still, he was a key part of Beating Duke and taking us to that Sweet Sixteen and that oh so close loss to eventual champ UF. We could have won it all that year. Not saying we were robbed or anything like that. But with a little luck, that team, and the following year's Final Four team, were NCAA Title caliber. It's been a LONG time.. at least 1996, since we could say that.

Have we really had this many posts about Brandon Bowman as "Best All-Around Hoya," and no one has mentioned Patrick Ewing? Sure, different position, so I don't think it's fair to look at distance shooting or handle. But if we're looking at best at what he was expected to do....Brandon Bowman?

I'll go Jeff. As Len Elmore said, "He's so good he averaged 14ppg, won Big East PoY and nobody said anything." When you're 21st in scoring in the league and get PoY and the #5 draft pick, you're doing something else.

How in the EXPLETIVE is Brandon Bowman being even mentioned in this thread? This is just plain STUPID--the kid wasn't even the best all around player on his own team--let alone should be mentioned in Hoya history. He wasn't reliable, he didn't show up in any category in numerous games--and he's mentioned. For goodness sake--if this is your recollection of Hoya history--then I nominate these 5 gentlemen to counter this absurdity:
C--Pascal Fleury
PF-Vladimir Bosonac
SF--DayJack--nobody missed layups like the Jack
SG--Kayode Vann
PG--Chip Simms
Why not put them here. Bowman. UnEXPLETIVEbelievable.

How about Chico Church? I mean I don't remember him doing anything well during his time at GU. That would qualify him as the Best All-Around player at nothing. Some guys at least did something well. Chico was supposed to be a shooter, but well....
