How in the EXPLETIVE is Brandon Bowman being even mentioned in this thread? This is just plain STUPID--the kid wasn't even the best all around player on his own team--let alone should be mentioned in Hoya history. He wasn't reliable, he didn't show up in any category in numerous games--and he's mentioned. For goodness sake--if this is your recollection of Hoya history--then I nominate these 5 gentlemen to counter this absurdity: C--Pascal Fleury PF-Vladimir Bosonac SF--DayJack--nobody missed layups like the Jack SG--Kayode Vann PG--Chip Simms Why not put them here. Bowman. UnEXPLETIVEbelievable. Of course if you actually READ something instead of exploding into your usual rant, you'd know that no one was proposing Brandon as Best All Around Hoya, just that he was a nice all around player. I simply threw it out there because I really can't see how this isn't a Reggie-Jeff discussion. Just thought it was a little boring. Being "nice" and being the "BEST" are two different categories. Bowman's name has no business in this thread--"nice" or not. If you would READ THE TITLE of the thread--you would figure this out--or maybe you wouldn't--go ask Ken Pom if he has a stat for marginal players who are put in the "BEST ALL AROUND HOYA" thread.

Tell you what -- I'll be sure to run everything past you before I post it to make sure it complies with your thread guidelines.
By the way, I missed your objection to the. wrestling digression on the other thread.

Come on--Brandon Bowman? The guy could be #1 choice on the "Guys who Needed a Caddle Prod Shoved up their Rear to Play Hard". It's pathetic to have a "Good/Bad" Brandon debate because that just tells you how much time was wasted trying to get a guy motivated/excited to execute on the court. Having talent is part of equation--playing like a STIFF for 3/4 of a game doesn't warrant fans to be blind and only accept the flashes of game he showed in a particular game/season or his career.

Have we really had this many posts about Brandon Bowman as "Best All-Around Hoya," and no one has mentioned Patrick Ewing? Sure, different position, so I don't think it's fair to look at distance shooting or handle. But if we're looking at best at what he was expected to do....Brandon Bowman? Not to put too fine a point on it strummer, but yes, I did mention Pat a few posts back. My mistake. Indeed you did make that point, and I missed it. I'm just glad at least Pat came up in this thread before Brandon Bowman because, well....really?

Not much love for Patrick. Jump shot, back to the basket, defended, blocked shots, ran the floor, intimidated. Not a great passer but, yeesh, I'll take Ewing as the best all-around.

If best all around Hoya means checking off a collection of skills and insisting on comprehensiveness, then the winner would have to be Reggie who was a little to a lot better than Jeff in most categories. If we are talking about the best Hoya basketball player in terms of overall impact and performance, then Patrick stands Head and shoulders above everyone else.

I'm surprised nobody said Charles Smith.
My top 4:
1. Charles Smith 2. Jeff Green 3. Reggie 4. Wingate
Wingate could do it all, and sacrificed a lot of his offensive game due to all that talent around him (Ewing, Reggie, etc.). Plus his defense. Just ask Chris Mullin how good Wingate was.

Can't forget the supporting factor - who was there with a towel and high-five when you're resting? Tay was.
If Jeff Green is the best, so be it...but Octavius nurtured his buddy on the bench, and for helping the greater cause, he gets my vote.

Smitty didn't have the greatest of handles, but as I stated in another thread, his stuff just went in the basket. He was also tough, but I don't think he'd be the best all-around.

Maybe, Smitty handled more than Reggie too, which gave him the opportunity to perfect the rock patting.
