If I have to pay 5 euros for a coke, they better speak American This made me laugh really hard. I think that there's nothing terrible in the statement that ESL students should learn English, but American students should learn a foreign language as well. I don't think its arrogant to tell people that they should try to educate their kids broadly. If Obama had said that everyone should take geometry, would that still be elitist? I don't understand how advocating that kids get an education that includes a foreign language makes someone elitist. I think that this is an example of people who are looking for a controversy finding one.

Out of curiosity, what languages does Obama speak? Duh, Arabic. What other language would one read the Koran in?

I guess it is a bit surprising that McCain supporters in this thread anyway would adopt some of the same attacks as Jesse Jackson made this week against Senator Obama. It just shows how much they are grasping at straws right now.

If elitism is a barrier to electability, then none of the presidents before Jackson (and several since) would have been elected. That very very much includes Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe. Raise your hand if you're as sick of that term as "flip-flop"! [raising hand]
