The Big East isn't breaking up. It's that simple. Can someone tell me the purpose of continually bringing up the same subject again and again? Or is it simply because he's trying to bust our balls as an Ohio State fan? And if so, this is what he does with his time? I'm confused.

I'm just curious how buckeye does the paragraph format with all of his posts. I believe that paragraph format is used when one posts from a Motorola Q.

Who needs to imply? This team clearly can't recruit talent without better facilities. (Yes, I'm trying to get the thread locked.)

Our team is THE worst in I-AA as it is. Fixed. Ouch, low blow, bro. To be fair, Georgetown did win 2 games, same as St. Peter's, La Salle, Columbia, and Dartmouth. We finished with a better record than Northern Colorado, VMI, Indiana State, North Carolina A&T, and Murray State, and with the same record as Hofstra, Idaho State, Missouri State, Sacret Heart, Morehead State, Western Carolina, Southeastern Louisiana, and Savannah State. Our team is not THE worst in I-AA.

Only one win in football last year: guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/archive/gu-m-footbl-sched-2007.htmlSo to answer the original question, I'm just guessing if the Big East breaks up, our role won't be "Fiesta Bowl Representative".

Interesting series of responses, just sort of what I expected. Most were good, others, well... welcome to the world of Hoyatalk.
Why an encroachment on one's football senses ONCE or so a year is offensive to some is your deep, dark secret and vive les droits du First Amemendment.
That said, many of you have some interesting thoughts. Here is my perspective, FWIW:
1. Villanova football fans, back in the I-A days, supported football far better than we do at I-AA games. It's one thing to play (and beat) Rutgers, although right now this would be a daunting task, as opposed to playing Rhode Island. Schools like Delaware, App State, Georgia State, Montana, Southern Illinois, who play to capacity much of the time, are only shows in town. Our attendance sucks, no doubt. About 8,000 a game if you play it down through the years 1990-current times and exclude the novelty of the sport returning in the mid 1980s.
But when we played Temple a few years back in the Linc, the first college football game there, there were 31,000 there and about 40% of them were 'Nova fans.
And we play Penn often in Franklin Field to crowds of about 18-20,000 and Villanova gets at least half of that crowd.
The potential fanbase is there. If the opponent's name is recognizable, the fans show up, if not so much, they don't. Pretty simple.
But the cost to jump to I-A includes 22 more schollies, a staff expansion, much bigger recruiting budget, training and locker room facilities upgrade (major), plus getting a stadium situation put together. As you may know, we have enough trouble trying to get an 11,000- seat proposed basketball arena past the beloveds of Radnor Township.
Anyhow, as said up front, I think most of us treasure our basketball rivalry with Georgetown as shown by 20,000 folks who show up at Wachovia Center and just enough Hoyas presence in the crowd to indicate this is a rivalry of both respect and mutual camaraderie.
I would miss that a whole lot, because V.U./Georgetown is definitely one of the league's better rivalries.
Anyhow, for those of you who are offended by the VERY occasional intrusion of this subject, or the size of my paragraphs, God bless. For the rest, have a good summer and let's hope the 'Cats and Hoyas are at their best this winter. Should be some pretty major league basketball going on between us.

See you in 4-5 months with same topic ready to be discussed. Here's an idea--if you make statements like "and a few--welcome to the world of HoyaTalk"--why not avoid this by not posting this same thing upon every visit to the site? I've got a question for you
When the world ends in "Insert your preferred year here"--what role will Villanova play in it? I'm just curious and would like to know. Sincerely--Wolverine71

Ahh, the Big East breakup thread. Where everyone with no actual clue pretends they know the exact details behind what every University President is thinking and every University Financial Statement.

Buckeye:
While you may respect us, rest assured this Hoya fan has no respect for Nova and never will. Go snort a rail with Cokie McLain and discuss Nova's role as a serial offender when it comes to NCAA cheating.

So i've been going through the various message boards and for the most part the only two schools who's fan bases actually want to see a split seem to be Lousiville and Rutgers. And even people on the lousiville board realize they are pretty full of them selves to have just been invited to the party and then want to break that party up. So not even all the fan bases seem to want this much less the presidents of the schools. Sure you can find plenty of fans of any football school who want to split but you can find an equal number if not more that don't want the split it seems. I'm not so sure it's as inevitable as some people would have us believe.

Buckeye70 - this is not the Villanova football thread. No one cares. And we're all bitter because it's around four months until practice starts. Now: " It's one thing to play (and beat) Rutgers," HAHAHAHAHA. Really, if you have been following college football for any length of time, this is hilarious. "But when we played Temple a few years back in the Linc, the first college football game there, there were 31,000 there and about 40% of them were 'Nova fans. And we play Penn often in Franklin Field to crowds of about 18-20,000 and Villanova gets at least half of that crowd." www.ncaa.org/about/div_criteria.html gives standards for I-A attendance. These standards are 15,000 paid. Now, SFS people, stay with me here. "at least half of" 18-20K is 10K. "About 40%" of 31K is 12.4K. So. Villanova, playing against its massive city rivals, in a rare David and Goliath scenario, gets .... less than the minimum required not to get kicked out of I-A. Now, I can hear you. "But the lower attendance is only because we're not I-A!" The problem is that Temple shows how Philadelphia will support bad college football. "If the opponent's name is recognizable, the fans show up". No. I went to cheer on a Michael Vick-led team at the Vet against a bad Temple team in 1999. The score was 62-7 against a team that upset Tech in Blacksburg the previous year and with an opponent that seemed a good bet to play in the national championship with a Heisman-caliber quarterback. There were less than ten thousand in the stadium, and they were almost all Tech fans. Philadelphia has the good sense to ignore bad teams. And Villanova will be a bad team. Delaware, a school that you do cite as "the only show(s) in town", is within the Philadelphia metro area. Even more importantly, it's also within driving distance of Navy and Maryland, who do have relatively successful programs. And Delaware draws twice what Nova does. Accept it. Private schools in I-A football are in short supply (the only one west of the Rockies is Stanford). They lack the financial wherewithal and state assembly support to compete. So. Summation. Please stop bringing up these points every six months. We're already a neurotic fan base as it is without scaring us about the BE breaking up. P.S. On the bright side, if you do go I-A, you'll probably be able to beat ND as long as Weis is the coach.
