Hey, just thought I'd give you folks a shout-out on this topic. I imagine somewhere a few times in the 612 pages of archives, the subject has come up, but it has been batted around on our vusports.com site quite frequently.
What do you see as Georgetown's role if the I-A/B.C.S. football schools pull their collective plugs?
A very unscientific poll on the 'Nova rivals.com site seems to indicate the majority wanting to upgrade football. But the caveat would mean not being associated with the Catholic schools in the BIG EAST.
Money, of course, is a major issue. But enough of Villanova here. My question to you folks is how you see Georgetown's future, should the big state schools + Syracuse opt out?

I think Georgetown and Villanova are a package deal in the eyes of the I-A folks, whatever and however that turns out.

We're screwed that's what happens, especially if nova manages to upgrade and leave too. Somw have claimed that the basketball only league wouldn't be that bad especially if we invited a xavier or a simillar team, but i still think it'd be pretty weak. Georgetown, Nova, seton hall, providence, st. johns, depaul, marquette, and ND isn't horrible but there's a lot of question marks. Marquette could fall of signifigantly with out crean, depaul st johns and seton hall suck right now. I just pray to god the split doesn't happen.

Buckeye - Upgrading our football team really isn't an option. Our team is one of the worst in I-AA as it is. If a I-A football team were a prerequisite for joining a conference, then we'd be out automatically.

I hope that doesn't happen, but if it does I don't see any way that GU tries to pursue Div. I-A football.

Georgetown will never attempt the leap to 1-A.
Nova shouldn't. You can't draw decent crowds now. Where will you play? the Linc, perhaps? Tell me why you don't end up another Temple.

Georgetown will never attempt the leap to 1-A. It might, it might not. I think one of the hypotheticals implicit in these arguments is if Georgetown/Villanova didn't make a move with these other I-A schools, it would be consigned to a mid major status (think Patriot or Colonial) and be shut out of all the upcoming revenue opportunities which allow it to be where it is now. These two schools are at least in position to consider the topic. If you're Providence, it's not even in the realm of discussion.

No offense, Buckeye, but you seem to post about this stuff every six months. This isn't my saying this will or won't be happening soon, but I think you need to stop worrying about it every other week and let things take their course.

we don't get any cut of the football money do we? i don;t think we do, so why is there a big desire/need for the football teams to split?
I always hear that we'd get out voted if they dropped some basketball schools and replaced them with football schools. Out voted on what exactly? what vote would there be that the result would help the football schools and hurt the basketball schools?
Cause frankly if the alternatives are the football teams split off with us or with out us i'd rather go with them I'd be fine of a league of Syracuse, Pitt, WV, rutgers, Louisville, Cinci, South florida, Uconn, Memphis, Georgetown, Villanova, and one of these( seton hall, providence, st. johns, ND)
they have their 9 football memebers and we have a 12 team basketball league. hell we could even have a 14 team basketball league and add two more from that list in parenthases. that sounds great to me.

First of all, any move by the football schools would have to result in a league with 12 football members, so they can have their championship game. It makes no sense for a league like that to tack Georgetown on just to increase the quality of the basketball league. The real question is this: If the football schools go, and the basketball schools pick up a few Xavier types, which league get's the better basketball TV deal. Is Georgetown still playing in a conference tournament at MSG that gets prime time slots on ESPN1?

So I wasn't the only one who thought Buckeye just copied and pasted what he wrote last year just to have people regurgitate what they've said over and over At least he could have updated it (Tranghese's retirement, the potential oncomming of Big East Men's Lax) but the topic of Villanova football is just soooo interesting that it took preference.... again

I've seen a lot of the football schools fans talking that they'd just want to add one more school to even out the schedule so they have even home and away games in conference. Is the thinking that once they got a voting majority they'd eeventually push out more basketball teams until they got to twelve? don't they have to have more than just a simple majority to change membership. Couldn't they just be satisfied with 9 football schools?

Our team is THE worst in I-AA as it is. Fixed. We'll be the best basketball program in the new new Big East, a conference that is not as strong as the current conference at the top, but that sends a higher percentage of its teams to the NCAAs on average.
