Some more idle speculation: Marc Ambider has found a charter plane currently in the air from Midway to New Castle, DE.

Why, why, why? If he made this selection 6 weeks ago, fine, it fills a resume void. But now he's behind in the electoral college by almost every poll and needs a big bang or a specific state play. So now it just seems like he picks a guy who is very popular in Philly. Awesome. I'm sure he wasn't up 95-5 in Philly and winning PA anyway.
And isn't this the guy who called Obama "bright and clean?" Ugh. Terrible pick. Biden is a male Pelosi and electoral poison.
McCain can just go safe now with young and conservative. That would give the Republicans essentially the same ticket only with the presidential guy in the slot marked "president."

Right, except one ticket represents a party that has dragged this country into a whole array of domestic and international problems, and the other hasn't. What are the substantive criticisms against Biden? That's a serious question. I know a bit about him, but I'm sure I'll learn more as some of you both criticize and support him. My gut says that he's ideal for this ticket and a perfect compliment to a President Obama. Right or wrong?

My gut says that he's ideal for this ticket and a perfect compliment to a President Obama. Right or wrong? You're right on that first point of course. And the Dems have never lost an election where that was the case I have nothing against Biden as a politician except his incredible annoyance factor. The real problem, as I said, is Biden is a fantastic counter to McCain. Unfortunately, Biden is not the presidential candidate. So what's this ticket about? Change? Well There isn't a less fresh face on the circuit than Biden. Does it need a counter to Obama's inexperience? Well then why not just get a neon sign that says to the world 'Obama is inexperienced' and see how it flies (note: Biden said this himself in the early debates). Does Obama need to appeal to the upper midwest, women, latinos, and working class voters? Oh good, it's a white guy from Delaware! Does he need someone who has governed? Well look, it's another senator! I can't see how this pick works nationally except Biden has some blue collar appeal and would be ready to be president. All nice if Obama needed a safe pick. But the only thing I see here is another opportunity to paint this ticket as all "Star Power" by adding another guy who loves the camera. Hey Lloyd Bentsen's a good compliment to Mike Dukakis too and he has the most iconic debate line in the last half of the 20th century. He also lost.
