The Hoyas will make the NCAA's. It's amazing how far we've come. When I showed up on the Hilltop simply making the tournament was a cause for celebration. Now I think people will be glum if we don't get a top 2 seed.

I still think they get the 2 seed over Duke, but I may be downplaying the Duke-love factor.

2 in the East with Carolina as the 1 is still most likely. Latest from Lunardi has 1 UNC, 2 Georgetown, 3 Xavier, 4 UConn in the East. The Georgetown-UConn match that we expected in the BET semis could be in the region final.

Scheduling question. Is it more likely they schedule us for the Thurs/Sat games because we are Catholic school?

Hmmm. Looking at the sites for the Thurs/Sat games this would seem impossible unless they send us out west. Seems weird to maybe have ND and G'town playing on Easter Sunday (not to mention Good Friday).

I figure that we will play Cornell (my other alma mater) in the first round - a pseudo Ivy League matchup. GO HOYAS!!!

Bring on Carolina - that's a team this group knows they can beat.

I doubt if the selection commitee will send have the same two teams as the top two seeds in the Eastern Region. Has that ever happened before in back-to-back years?

Is the selection show on ESPN and CBS? I've seen both stations advertising it, but I thought it was only on one channel in past years.

UConn can't be a 4 seed in the east if we're a 2 (unless Louisville is a one somewhere). One of those quaint NCAA bracketing rules is that if you are the highest seeded team from your conference (and a 1-4 seed), then the next team from your conference in the same region can not be in within three seeds of you.
For a guy who owes his "celebrity" to all this bracketology, he should know this (Incidentally, does anyone from Philly know how Lunardi does in his day job?). Of course, the guys on the selection committee should know that BYU doesn't play on Sundays, but that's another conversation.

I still think they get the 2 seed over Duke, but I may be downplaying the Duke-love factor. That says it all, IMO. Although, there are a couple of other factors at play. One, Duke really cant complain with a #3 if it still gets them to play in Raleigh. And, two, UNC and Duke as the 1 and 2 in the East is something the committee would really avoid, right? I think Duke ends up getting a 3. Otherwise, they would have to justify not only why Duke gets to play in Raleigh, but how they get a higher #2.

But, if that is how the curve works, that's how it should work. If UNC earns the right to be the #1 seed overall, they should play the weakest #2. If Wisconsin wins the Big 10, I dont see how you can argue that we arent the lowest 2. They are definitely 7 teams ahead of us, IMO.

To me, the most important thing is that we get a favorable 2nd round matchup, and not face a preposterously underseeded 7 seed (like Ohio State did two years ago when it drew us). Here are the most likely candidates for the 7 seeds:
Southern Cal BYU Gonzaga Miss. St. Oklahoma Miami
Team I'd like to avoid: Southern Cal
Teams I'd like to see: BYU or Miami

Total agreement there Locker. Having both USC and Miami on the same line would be a travesty.

Great point, Locker. The 2nd round matchup always worries me the most. For one, the 5-7 seeds are the hardest to seed. A 7 seed could easily be a 6, for instance, and moreover, what if some Big East teams are 6 and 7s? That means that the committee would have to shuffle things leading to us playing a more difficult team than you would think. It could go the other way, too, but it definitely didnt work out for OSU two years ago.
