here comes the Belarussian secret agent....?
Nope, Jansen instead, must be JTIII is giving NIkita an extra game suspension or something else, can't imagine why else he wouldn't get a second of time in this rout

Most positive sign from this game: only 2 missed free throws.

was that roy's first career three today? i think it might have been. Yes. I can't believe anyone is surprised Nikita didn't play. Thompson is the guy who has barely gotten Tyler or Omar into fifty-point routs and I think both of them are probably miles ahead of Nikita right now. The rotation is only going to get smaller from here on out.

What I got out of this game, aside from the fact that rebounding is still an issue...
It is great the added depth we have. Rivers and Macklin are vastly improved. Chris may have already vaulted over Rivers as the top backcourt sub and has huge potential (especially keeping in mind his injury). And unlike some, I'm saying that as a huge compliment to Chris and not an insult to Rivers. Patrick is playing as well as last year or close to it.
Still, what was most apparent to me this game is that we still have a big gap between the top five and the backups. Wallace, Sapp, Hibbert, Summers and Freeman are clearly the best right now and I expect to see the rotation settle out a bit more as we face tougher in-conference opponents. Chris is the wildcard, given that he's a month behind and his immense talent, but right now, that's our five.
Also, a few years ago, Esherick called his last team "the best shooting team he's had" or something like that.
This team has shooters.

It was pretty strange - Nikita went up to the scorer's table to get subbed in, then got called back to the bench a minute later and Jansen came in instead.

First thoughts on the box score:
1) Overall, the free-throw shooting was excellent, 10 of 12, 83%. Wallace had the first missed free throw of the game, oddly, and Macklin and Hibbert didn’t go to the line, but Ewing’s 3 of 4 free throws has to be good for his confidence.
2) For the rest of his play, however, Ewing’s confidence has to suffer a little: 0 for 5 from the field (0 for 2 from the three-point line) today, with 5 fouls, in 21 minutes.
3) For the starters Wallace, Summers, Hibbert, and Freeman (his first start), you couldn’t ask for a better shooting performance: combined 21 of 28 from the floor (75%) and a superb 10 of 12 from the three-point line (83%). Hibbert’s first three-pointer!
4) Wright had a slow game: 2 points in 21 minutes, on 1 of 4 shooting.
5) The last two games suggest Georgetown is solving its free-throw-shooting problem (although, without Hibbert or Macklin shooting today, it’s not certain). But the rebounding problem remains. A much-shorter team, Fordham still out-rebounded Georgetown 35 to 33. Most disturbing are the 19 offensive rebounds Fordham got. The Hoyas got 29 defensive rebounds, which means Georgetown on defense was letting the other team get 40% of the rebounds (19 of 48). Meanwhile, on the other end, Fordham on defense got 16 rebounds and Georgetown on offense got 4, or only 20% (4 of 20). The long runs by non-starters in this kind of blowout skew the numbers, but it’s still a less-than-happy picture.
6) Wattad weakened his claim to be the Hoyas’ most-efficient player: 0 of 1 shooting and 1 foul in 3 minutes.

I don't care what the score is or how big/small the other team is.....we need to improve rebounding. If we can't outrebound other teams in the Big East, especially keeping them off the offensive boards, we are going to end up losing a game or games would should not lose. That doesn't even take into account the FT shooting. Sorry to start off negatively--I missed the game, and am really glad to see the improved FT shooting in this one......however, seeing another game where we get outrebounded is very disappointing. Let's get the Big East season started and see how good this team can really be!!

Roy probably should have played more. He has been tired-looking all season and now he is going to be forced to get into game shape during the Big East season. Unless of course JTIII only plans to play him 20-25 minutes as he has done in the past, which might be a good strategy because teams are going to prepare for a half-court, Roy-focused Hoyas team and we can take advantage of hitting them with the faster-paced team.

Boy, it's a tough crowd. I was at the game, sat in the front row. Trust me, there were no problems in this game. We whooped their butt. The game was over at 41-11, which came with about 8-10 minutes left...in the first half. Stats are meaningless in this game. Trust me. It wasnt ever a game.

I think the rebounding suffered because for a lot of the game, we had some 3 guard lineups, or two guards and Freeman, and for the last 10 minutes, Crawford. If you want to look at what this team COULD have done, look at the first 8-10 minutes. That was when we had our real lineups running. They grabbed some offensive boards in the last 10-15 minutes when it was serious throw-away time.
Based on this game, I'm really looking forward to bowling over our first few BE opponents.

Just wanted to comment that there is a really good chance Jon's record stands for a long, long time. One, given how we're recruiting and the general state of college basketball, how many four year starters are there going to be? Two, we were very three-point happy in Jon's first year, and I bet we see more balance both inside and out and between players in the future. But most importantly, the line goes back a foot next year, which will knock a few points off of everyone's shooting, I'd think.
Of course, we could end up recruiting a Redick-type. Heck, someone like Chris or Austin could end up challenging it, I suppose. But with people jumping early and the line going back, Jon's record may last a while.

Quick comments.
1. The Eastern band once again steals the show. Really, if you've never heard them, they're awesome. 2. We need to offer an accelerated program to get as many members of the Pop Warner team as possible playing for GU as soon as possible. 3. I got there five minutes late. Game was over by then (17-8)? Every time we needed a rebound, we got one. Ignore stats. Ignore that Stout got half his team's points. It was a rout. 4. JWall was recognized at the end for being GU's all-time three-point leader (he got it pretty early in the game). Not bad for someone who was told he might never get any playing time. 5. Chick Fil A Shake Cam can be awesome, but it needs more careful camera work and an actual defined winner. 6. For Dress Like A Hoya - to reiterate, why don't we have a gray jersey rather than a white one? I feel bad rooting against the kid who drew the white jersey straw. 7. Ewing looked like he was going to kill someone late in the game. Probably better for him coming off the bench for that energy. 8. Much more coordinated HB performance compared to the AU game, when they were kinda quiet. 9. Roy making a three was one of my top ten highlights of 2007.
EDIT 10. Almost forgot - Rivers had a sick block that brought lots of people out of their chairs.

Great holiday present getting to watch game today. Here's the thoughts that echo what most have said:
1. Roy was much more aggressive--and it was wonderful to see him take 3 jumpers--and nailing them all--elbow jumper, 3, and a baseline shot--which are all good shots for him--and came within offense--weren't forced--his jumper on baseline was great because he beat the double by shooting before other guy could get to him.
2. Macklin made 3 passes today that were as good as you'll see from any player--and 2 of them saved turnovers as they were bad passes heading out of bounds.
3. Summers is this team's best rebounder--and had most of his boards in First Half--he was everywhere--flying down low to help on defensive glass.
4. Starting five were outstanding--Wright was okay on defense and passing--awful shot selection.
5. Rivers and Ewing stunk today on offense. Jeremiah was weak with ball/made some dumb turnovers.
6. Rivers was beast on defensive end.
7. Ewing and Macklin got a lot of cheap calls against them today in post defense/guys getting bumped on drive.
8. III took a timeout after their good shooter--Stout (sp?) nailed one from way out--but he'd nailed about 5 others prior to that and obviously III wanted defense up on him--and he was Editeded.
9. Crawford had a great pass to cutting Macklin for nice layup and Macklin returned favor with a great baseline spin move and drop pass to Patrick who got hammered--and was waiting for the "Crippler" Crawford to get after Fordham--but he was reserved today. ;D
10. Watching Georgetown's offense against a zone defense under a III coached team compared to Pops/Esherick is just night/day. The passing/ball movement and cutting without the ball is beautiful and gets good shots.
11. Better decisions in transition--and made the simple play/took the breaks when they were there and ran offense when it was not.
12. Wallace was fabulous--and on fire--he was taking 3's spotting up, off dribble, drove for some intermediate shots and could've had 35-40 if he played more minutes/took more shots-he was that hot shooting the ball.
13. Sapp was at his best today--controlled tempo, hit backdoor passes, and was great.
14. Roy is getting caught--coming out too far on baseline-guys will drive by him to rim/go under to protect against him--and while Roy does a good job recovering-he chases them and leaves rebounds open--and we're just not big enough to do this against certain opponents. He needs to force guys to take that jumper on baseline--most kids can't make that enough--and Hoyas can't afford for their biggest player to be drawn out and then committed to chasing/leaving area open because he's not a good out of his area rebounder.
15. Roy was so much quicker making decisions with ball today--either going strong, shooting jumper, or passing and re-establishing the post position--excellent job by him of improving that aspect--more aggressive/assertive. He tried on boards--but was out muscled time to time and he had some nice blocks today--but as pointed out above--it often leaves boards open for teams-which against certain teams in Big East/down the road will leave openings.
Love the offensive team of Wallace/Sapp/Summers/Freeman/Roy--and it's not a shock this game was 32-8, 41-11 with that group starting out together. It was an offensive clinic and ball movement and cutting got the Hoyas easy shots and they knocked them all down--beautiful offense to watch.
Now it's time for Big East play--and if you can start out 2-0 on the ROAD--it's a great start to Big East play. These games won't be easy--Rutgers always is capable at home of playing opponents tough and DePaul will upset someone this year--just hope it's after Hoyas play them. Saw them against Vandy--and they had game--and gave it away.
