Last night's outcome was never in doubt with the fearsome Chris Widger in the lineup. Buerhle tonight. Big run on walkup tickets for this weekend's games. Go you White Sox. PS: Rooter and Case, how'd you guys get to be White Sox fans? Chicagoans?

Born and bred on the South Side (Hyde Park). Went to my first Sox games (that I can honestly remember) at Old Comiskey in the early 80s.

I'm a native Angeleno. My father, born in Chicago was one of only 2 Sox fans among 7 brothers. I became a Sox fan because he was (and is) a Sox fan. This was right around the time the Dodgers moved to LA, but I had Sox in my blood first, so I was very unhappy in 1959.
Exact opposite with the NFL. My dad was a Bear fan, but I loved the Rams, and hated the Bears.

Hey, I just saw this thread today, but I wanted to make sure you guys know that you're not alone in rooting for the White Sox on the talk board.
I've been watching almost all their games on mlb.tv while I am at school, and I can't wait to get back home to the Chicago suburbs to watch them all summer long.
So far, it looks like the team has a good mix. Of course, winning cures all ills.
Last night's game was pretty rough. Buehrle and the bullpen got hit pretty hard, but the defense didn't help much either. Dye drops an easy pop up and willie harris and pablo osuna have grounders go right by them. We looked pretty beat up. Hopefully we can finish strong this series. I would love to get out of Oakland with 2 out of 3.

Hey, I just saw this thread today, but I wanted to make sure you guys know that you're not alone in rooting for the White Sox on the talk board. And the Nation keeps getting bigger. Welcome, 3dGenerationHoya Last night was rough, but outings like that are to be expected. After a tough one like that, I think this afternoon's game should provide a little insight as to whether this Sox team actually has the character/heart/luck to contend this season, or rather are simply capitalizing on borrowed time.

Thanks for the welcome.
I think we start our own "Picks to Click" contest like Hawk and DJ. How about on a series-by-series or weekly basis?
Another tough loss today, but we've always had trouble in Oakland. We'll get back to our winning ways. As Ozzie says, "Fun is winning, winning is fun."

Welcome to the team, 3GenerationHoya. All we need now is one more, and we can make a fist, to bludgeon the non-believers. Looks like the Oakland hex is still alive. Two tough losses, but hey, they are more than balanced out by the surprising wins. I haven't checked yet, but I'm assuming that the Sox have a bunch of dinged infielders. Chris Widger at third and the oft-seen combination of Joe Crede and Jermaine Dye at short?

I liked that the Chicago Tribune's column this morning noted that Widger got his first start at 3rd since Little Leage and a rec. league softball game. Crede as an emergency fill-in at SS I can understand, since I think he played there some in the minors. Dye as the emergecy-emergency fill-in, however, left my scratching my head.
I don't know why they didn't play Konerko at 3rd, since that was his position in the minors. There are a lot more guys on the roster who could handle 1st base (Gload, etc.). Guess Guillen knows what he's doing, and in the end, it didn't sound like it was necessarily the fielding that did the bullpen in.

Didn't see the game tonight, although I understand it was a one run victory (4-3). Nice to have the ship righted after three losses. However, the lack of offense the past week has been absolutely maddening (the Sox stranded 16 last night?).
I have the distinction of being born in a household of Cub fans, and since I lived on the Howard El line, I went to a tremendous number of Cubs games when I was young. But then I travelled the baseball Road to Damascus and was suddenly converted during the magical summer of 1977. I have never looked back.
A question for the Board: who is your favorite White Sox? Currently, it has to be Buerhle; an outstanding pticher, little attitude, and a guy who is good for a sub 2 hour game.

For me, it has been Buerhle so far this year, but there are a bunch of players that I really like on this team.
Podsednik is cool because of the way he makes other teams so nervous with his speed.
Shingo, for all his maddening blown saves, is fun to watch.
Crede seems like a tough player with a good work ethic. He always plays solid defense, and I'm glad his offense has come around at least for the first month of the season. In prior years, it seemed as though he usually started off slow and couldn't dig himself out of the hole.
Oh, and Garland just won his 5th straight game. So I like him. He seems to really be coming into his own right now.

Congratulations to Jon Garland. 4 hit complete game and a 5-0 start; outstanding. And the Twins lost.
Garland should be a favorite this year, although I've spent so much time waiting for him to break out that I'm still holding back. Still, he's having an unbelieveable start.
Love Shingo, too, although I think his magic pitch has been figured out by the Indians (and soon others)
Any MLB Radio/XM subscribers out there? I was listening to the Dodgers game today, and got Rick Monday on the call (forgettable former Cub, by the way). Where was Vin Scully? Is he at the point in his career where he takes days off?

I don't believe Vinnie takes any home games off. I think what typically happens (although my radio listening is confined to the car, so I could be wrong about this) is that Vin does the first 3 innings on the radio, Rick Monday and Charlie Steiner do the next 3 innings, and Vin does the last 3 innings.

Seven straight! Best record in baseball. Jon Garland is 6-0. This is really, really fun. Buerhle tomorrow. Let's sweep the Jays.
By the way, two pitchers in the majors have records of 6-0: Jon Garland and Dontrelle Willis. Both were traded by the Cubs.

Sox have to stop these winning streaks!! How else is Baltimore going to catch them for the winningest record in baseball?!? I, for one, would not mind at all a repeat of the 1983 ALCS! Just stirring the pot among the esteemed Chicagolanders on the board!! ;D

Hey guys, just discovered this thread--I don't peruse the pro board regularly--and I am ELATED to see this.
Little bit about myself: College 04. Grew up in NW Indiana. Earliest memories including climbing the ramps at old Comiskey and sitting in the old laquered green wooden seats above home plate. My family's been Sox fans since my grandfather arrived in Gary, just off the boat, to work in the steel mill in 1927. He was told, if you want to be an American, you love baseball. He said, I'm gonna be a Sox fan, and that's the way it's been in our family.
Being a Sox fan on the Hilltop was a lonely, lonely existence, what with the legion of frat boy Chicagoans with their slouch Cubs caps matching their baby-blue polos. Explaining the blue-collar South Side ethos was, well, just not worth it--better just to live it. I'm wondering if fellow Hoya/Sox fans found it as lonely an experience? Perhaps we could trade stories that begin with someone uttering the following line: "So you're from Chicago? I love the Cubs!"
All I can say about this season is, what fun it's been. I listen to Rooney and Farmer with the MLB Audio package every game--at home, at work. Pitching's as good as any time since the likes of McDowell, Alvarez and Alex Fernandez. And the bats are gonna come.
If anyone else is in D.C. and wants to get together for a beer when a game's on ESPN or channel 9--that might be good. I'm still looking for some, a?, Sox fans around here.

Can the word "Nation" be in the title of this thread when you are getting between 12-16K per game? I think it should be renamed the White Sox community thread.
I mean, you have the best record in baseball. Wake Up!
