ok, i just reread the CDBD thread and on second thought it's pretty hilarious. and did jack not say this at some point in this thread also: "Please don't lock this thread. Watching Mt. YB erupt at every perceived slight is even more fun that watching him practice his art at halftime. Kudos, sir, and keep up the good work." i don't know...can somebody get on that? EDIT: turns out he didn't, i must have remembered it from previous reads of CDBD but let's be honest, can anybody blame me for thinking he had? I quoted Jack's plea to keep BD/CD open on page 4 of this thread. Viva la thread!!! Viva la revolucion!!

I still blame Esherick. The man is evil and when I die--I fully expect him to be greeting me with a fist/double fist instead of pitchfork. I also heard a rumor that Esherick didn't eat a banana the day of Final Four--he went to Sonic and fed "Braswell" his grumbling stomach--a nice winky dinky dog and Cranberry Juice. On the plus side Sonic offers an impressive array of milkshakes and sandwiches ... dude, Sonic is sweet. After seeing the ads on TV for years in Philly I saw my first one during spring break in Georgia. The food is amazing!

Growing up in Tulsa we had one on literally about every street corner. They are to Tulsa what Duncan Doughnuts are to Boston and they are effin' amazing. Any place that lets you drive in and order a 44 ounce chocolate dr. pepper is unbeatable.

To refocus/not get the thread locked:
I think the board's had its ups and downs - Superman and the Charlie Daniels discussions were amazing - but I think that message boards are a pretty self-selecting forum - and it seems that with Georgetown at least it selects people who are self-important but insecure and that leads to some hilarious moments but also can make a normal on the board pretty boring.

I can't believe I missed all of this today. We've found the Ballroom Dancing thread. Can we now find the "Life in Spotsylvania is so much better than DC"?

One of my biggest regrets in life will be that I missed the Superman discussion. I'm a law dork and a comic geek--that could have been my Everest! Let this be a lesson to you, kids: stay in school, never start a land war in Asia, and always check the talk board at least every four hours.

schrutebag lives but his Q won't power up! Or Schrutebag has shifted his focus from replying on the thread to petitioning the mods to have it shut down. Wasn't he the guy advocating free speech earlier?

This thread is the equivalent of last night's rampant betting around The Office. We're all in March Madness withdrawal, and need something to distract us from the depressing reality that is life at work.

Apparently, the power of the minivan pulls through: • Used Honda Odyssey • Find your Honda Certified Used Car and map it in a few easy steps. • hondacertified.googlepages.com • New Car Lease Deals • $160 Monthly/No-Money Down Specials Early Lease Termination Options. • CarLeasingSecrets.com • Honda Odyssey of Tomorrow • Concept Odyssey at Inside Line Road-Tests, News, Photos, Videos • www.InsideLine.com • Honda CRV Problems? • Is your Honda CRV always in the shop for repairs? Free case review. • www.yourlemonlawrights.comDo not disrespect the Odyssey Posse. WE ARE LEGION!!!! (and, if you disrespect us, we'll make you sit where my 2 year old sits. Sticky. Very sticky.) Disrespect!

As another off-season begins and the predictable facilities threads spring up like weeds, a few fellow HoyaTalkers and I have wondered aloud to each other: has HoyaTalk jumped the shark??? I fear it has. More importantly, when did it happen? When legends from the old board ceased to exist for one reason or another? When it became the jump-off for the "support" rally and began taking itself far too seriously? When G'Town beat Duke and it was suddenly flooded with Johnny Come Lately bandwagoneers? baselinejournal's first appearance? When the bulk of posters suddenly became completely incapable of trading barbs and tongue-in-cheek pot shots and became more sensitive than a bunch of high school girls? HoyaTalk was a much more fun place when the team was terrible. From talking with others, I know I'm not the only one ignoring a serious amount of threads/members these days, not to mention the fact with all the new members its become a free-for-all with all these posters who think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread, their opinions somehow matter more than anyone else's and anyone who disagrees with them is due some sort of web-based tongue lashing. One need only look to the fact we've got (had) MULTIPLE threads where some of the more pretentious among us presume to know what's best for a G'Town student-athlete and his family. I pray this isn't the beginning of the end. I'm afraid we're heading down the path of some of the Rivals boards where 10 billion people post constantly, and the level of discourse drops precipitously... Don Imus precipitously. If you're looking for an example, take a look at the Twerp or UK boards when you've got a moment. Price of success, I s'pose... Here here! I have not read any of the responses, but I'm sure there's a heated debate ensuing (look how many pages already!) I will say this. There are two sides to every coin. With success comes a lot of good, and some not so good. I too long for the good 'ol days of Hoyatalk when we could wallow in each other's misery, get insanely excited about a 2nd round NIT win, and argue over whether Godwin Owinje would average more/less than 15 pts/game. However, I will take this team, this coach, and this program, any day of the week. I truly believe that Hoyatalk has been (and hopefully will remain to be) a special place, but should one day I have to fold up shop and retire from this board, at least I can do so with a smile on my face. No, we have not yet won a second championship, and I dream every day of seeing us win several in the coming years, but I'll we're back baby! The impact of MEGAFANLAND may be waning - there's not anyone out there telling me I'm crazy and seeing the world through rose-colored glasses (even though many of you out there had all but written this team off earlier THIS season!) - but remember, this is only the beginning of a new era of Georgetown basketball - the best is yet to come!

And now, the prestige...
I'd like to thank you all for helping me win $50. A friend of mine who happens to be a long-time lurker on HoyaTalk - having become as fed up with the same-old off-season threads as the rest of us - bet me $50 I couldn't incite a flame war of epic proportions on HoyaTalk. The conditions stated that I could not :
1 - reference facilities, paying JTIII, etc. 2 - call out specific posters by name 3 - make reference to current or former players and coaches, specifically creating unfounded rumors about them
The thread would have 24 hours to (a) incite internet trash-talking and slap-fights on a massive scale, (b) elicit the automated responses certain posters have come to be known for, and (c) reach 10 pages of ad hominem attacks/responses within that 24 hour period. With your help, all three were accomplished. That $50 is going to look good in my wallet.
I'd especially like to thank the following posters for helping me win:
- the moderators, for allowing this thread to live on despite all the nastiness contained within;
- YB, tal1286, HoyaOnBothSides, and tonydeals for taking the goings-on of HoyaTalk far too seriously, and providing the kindling this fire needed to rage... oh, and thanks for the personal attacks, guys - proved my "HoyaTalk is far too hyper-sensitive" and "people take themselves way too seriously" points beautifully;
- The Attorney General for gracing us with his presence;
- fatthew for introducing me to the Fat Man's Special sandwich;
- and everyone else who realized this thread (and HoyaTalk in general) was nothing more than pure entertainment and treated it as such
Do I believe everything I wrote in that opening post? Of course not. I love HoyaTalk. Its the only message board I've ever posted on for a reason. Despite what some of you posted, I don't want a board where its just me and my "cronies" (tonydeals), I don't care when someone became a fan of the program and don't care if they're a "bandwagoneer" or not (HOBS), I don't presume to be the world's greatest Hoya fan or some moral authority on the program (tal), and I obviously don't take myself or what's said here that seriously at all (YB).
Sure, I think many people around here take themselves far too seriously considering the forum, but hey... you're bound to have a few Eshericks in a sea of Thompsons. Otherwise, I think HoyaTalk is as enjoyable as ever, and I love that there are more fans of the program than I've seen in my entire lifetime. A friend of the Hoyas is a friend of mine. This place is great for Hoya hoops info, a good laugh and sometimes very insightful discussion about relevant topics.
I took this bet merely to spice things up around here, light a fire and get you people riled up. Looks like it worked.
EDIT: Perhaps we should now take heed of Clutter Police's immortal words and LOCK IT UP!!![/i][/size]

I feel dirty. Used. I'm going to go take a shower.
Also, Sonic rocks. I got to my first one as well in Phoenix after years of seeing the ad. Well worth the wait.

I'd glad I didn't confess to having a Minivan, based on a thread started as a bet/joke!
Edit: Although I did learn from the times article that my car is apparently "butch."
