Spann was 50th in the nation, got hurt, and slipped to 130 or so.
Thornton was ranked 70th or so as a junior but slipped to 130 or so.
Egerson never really played AAU ball so is more or less unranked. But he's playing very well on his prep team with a lot of high ranking players.

The "LSU" guy is Regis Koundjia, an African player who was highly recruited out of high school and who, despite the cool name and obvious potential, has yet to show us anything really special in a season/plus at LSU. Now, I trust the coaching staff and do think a player with his upside (size and versatility) could help the Hoyas, but let's not act like either Fofana or Koundjia are the next coming. In fact, I still think Roy has a shot at being the better player of the three, but of course, only time will tell. Furthermore, with the news regarding Sapp, I wonder how things will play out in terms of schollies. From all accounts, Fofana is a done deal, and will be attending classes in a week or two, but I won't believe it until I see it. As always seems to be the case, you can never have too many recruits, because there will always be the inevitable failure to qualify, transfers, etc., even when you are careful to avoid these situations, they tend to surface sooner or later with at least one player. Well, I can't tell you how excited I am. Not only do we beat Pitt, but we sign our highest rated recruit, and it appears we may have yet another big man on campus soon. Beyond that, here's to JT III, our Hoya team, and our continual improvement as the season moves forward. Following are links to info about Regis Koundjia: sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=15369www.lsusports.net/bio.cfm?ref=00050382-80A2-1E9D-860680D1FBA401E2&sporttype=MB&indivtype=PL Finally, I'm always excited to have at least a few Africans on our team, especially those with really cool names, like Guibunda, Kilkenny-Diaw and hopefully soon, Fofana! I don't know where you got that Fofana is a done deal. I haven't heard that at all. I'm worried that he's not sufficiently skilled with the ball for our offense. He doesn't have to be a great shooter or dribbler, but he has to be able to pass and make good decisions.
Regis was a top-25 player - everyone says he's a baller. It would be an enormous coup to land him. The buzz is that Wake is the school to beat.

First, I am not saying that I have insider info stating that Fofana is a done deal, but the rumblings are that it is likely he is a Hoya come next week. Again, I will not be surprised if this is NOT the case. I agree with you with respect to how significant getting Fofana is, but given our lack of size off the bench, if he was able to play next Spring, than I couldn't argue with the decision to take him.
Next, getting Regis would be a coup, and given the descriptions I read about him, I think he could thrive in our current system (plus he supposeldy is a tough defender to boot). However, I have no idea what the odds are of us getting him, and of course, we must remember that he too would have to sit out at least a semester, and more than likely the whole year, unless he ends up on campus enrolled in classes rather than Fofana.
I appologize if my assumption that Fofana is a done deal was presumptious, or incited hope in others who thought I knew something that others didn't, but I guess we'll find out pretty soon. I wonder if the signing of Sapp will influence any decisions, either on Georgetown or the potential recruits' part? Well, so far,I like what I see with our recruiting class, and believe that if we can somehow steal an elite big man we could be looking at something special in a year or two.
LET'S GO HOYAS!!! BEAT UCONN!

Check out this story on future Hoya Jesse Sapp. I can't believe he will have only played two years of organized high-school ball by the time he reaches the hilltop. Coach Brown compares him to Ben Gordon, which is quite an accolade. I have a feeling this guy will be something special. For some reason I wasn't that concerned with whether we landed him, and thought I would prefer to get some more size, but the more I read about Jesse, the more I like. Plus, being from NYC, I love getting those New York players, especially a Gaucho. Great grab coaching staff. Keep up the good work! mdvarsity.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=303110LET'S GO HOYAS!!! Way, thanks for the welcome back and I've got to save that KG stuff for Playoff time-- ;D Some brief things on Jessie Sapp and a few recruiting notes of interest: 1. Sapp was recently contacted by UConn according to the Commitment Story by Dave Telep on Scout.Com. Hoyas beat out SJU, VT, Pitt, and UConn for Jessie! 2. His Coach at National Christian brought up to him that GU is top 25 Academically in the Nation and Jessie said that his mom and sister LOVED the visit to Campus! 3. He's a kid with tremendous upside. Has very strong frame and can score off penetration or shoot the ball from deep. He's a perfect compliment to the backcourt Hoyas have and are recruiting in that he can create shots for them, help them handle pressure, and also slash to drop dimes to big guys. 4. Defensively, he's got a world of potential to be a lockdown type. He and Josh Thornton have ability to defend with long arms for guards. 5. Jessie has already called up Jeff Green to discuss things and they've talked about "TAKING GEORGETOWN BACK TO WHERE IT BELONGS". As for some other notes on recruiting: 1. Regis Koundjla was described above and he played his HS ball in a Prep School but I believe he traveled with DC Assault in the Summer Circuit. Not certain of his interest in GU other than he's listing them but Wake Forest appears to have lead. He did visit a Hoya game recently and is a greyhound on the court. However, if Hoyas don't get him, remember how important it is to establish good will with those connected to players. 2. Vernon Macklin, Jawan Carter, and Chris Wright are scheduled to be at the UConn Game on Saturday, among a ton of local players---Paul Johnson as well. 3. Hoyas are making a lot of noise with Underclassmen Locally and Nationally. III and his Staff deserve a lot of praise for their work ethic and aggressiveness in maintaining contact and getting out to see players. 4. Marc Egerson is one of the most underrated recruits in the country-- along with Octavious Spann. Both kids didn't play on the AAU Circuit this Summer and yet they were monitored by the likes of Maryland, UVA, Louisville, Kentucky, and even UNC in Spann's case back in the Spring. These kids are top 100 talentwise and so is Thornton and Sapp. 5. Most importantly, all of the players fit into the SYSTEM that GU is developing. This aspect of the program has me most excited as it's easier to recruit/sell when you can show players how they'll be used and how it benefits their games---versatility is a must. Everyone touches the basketball and moves on the court. The excitement is just starting as Hoyas are attacking DC, MD, and VA in recruiting and also nationally. GU has had more top 100 kids and top 50 recruits visit in the past 7 months than during the past decade! ;D Remember things are only getting STARTED and if you think it's fun being a Hoya fan now, wait until the near future, things are only going to get better.

i could not be happier with the sapp addition. you can never have too many quality players in the backcourt. imo, owens is done after this season and ray reed gets his minutes cut next year. i think egerson fits in at the 3, with spann getting major minutes at both forward spots. you never know with players transferring, especially freshman that are not getting minutes. a backcourt of wallace, cook, sapp, and thornton is very good offensively and the defense improves with sapp and thornton. i'd also like to get a little more size, but maybe guibunda can have a good summer and contribute next season.
nothing but positives coming from the team.

Awesome stuff. Thanks for the links to the players, everyone. Tough minded players who play defense are going to take us back to the top of the conference. The offense is a pleasure to watch, but tough defense is there every night. If we play defense, we'll get transition opportunities. I cannot express how grateful I am to III and staff for their work.
