Anyone else think that we should probably be thanking Ashanti Cook for this news today. His performance last night and stats so far this season just might have been the final push for this kid to deciding to play for the hoyas. If recruits can see our kids play well, then we have a good chance of landing some of the top recruits. The thought process is usually something along the line of "If that Cook kid can drop 23 against Pitt in that offense, and I know I'm better than him, than I'm going to tear it up when I get there." The big question left to be answered: Will he be better than Ashanti Cook?
I like Cook so if he is, I'll be pretty damn happy.

Why wouldn't Fofana be eligible for the spring semester next year? Word is he's in good academic standing...

If Fofana doesn't enlist at a school before classes start, he won't be eligible to play. Have GU classes started yet?
Marc is also more of a 6'5" swing, so ultimately, he may be more of a guard than a 3. Tay is a 3/4 type, so a big man is definitely needed.

Classes don't start until Wednesday, January 12th. This is part of the reason why MCI will be Storrs South on Saturday-none of the students from out of town will be there (and none of the dorms are open, so they can't stay on campus if they came down).
So, Fofana could still be transferring to Gtown for the 2nd semester (hopefully). Also, congrats JT3 on getting Sapp to sing, and welcome, Jesse.
/also, SFHoya, those are some pretty cool effects you have going there-is that a Hall of Famer thing?

I don't know if you are joking, but no -- there's a whole row of effect above the smileys. That's a combo of the "m" with an arrow, the glowing "g", and the A with the up and down arrow.

In regard to scholarships, the school and Coach is responsible for renewing them. Contrary to what most believe, they are renewed yearly and not a 4 year commitment. Now obviously for the guys who contribute and play that is a no-brainer but if you are not contributing and Coach wants your ship, he can tell you he's going in another direction. It's like that in all NCAA Sports as well--not just hoops.
Jessie Sapp is a great get and the direction of the GU program is only going upwards. I agree with what many have said in terms of looking at things with proper perspective, but how can you not be excited?? I was told that Hoyas will have over 40 players in attendance for the UConn game and while some are unknown underclassmen, that is how you establish ties to the area schools. It's important to show interest in kids even if you really don't want them--that is how you establish ties with coaches and in turn they can push your program to the kids you eventually want to recruit/sign. So don't freak out if you hear a guy that might not be as good as someone else on the radar is visiting, interested, etc...
Best thing about all of this excitement is that we're seeing GU just getting started. It's only going to get better!! As for the recruits we have signed, versatility is the main attribute but they are also athletic. Kids who can play basketball and fit roles into the system that is being used by the program, what a novel approach!!
Anyways, great to see the enthusiasm around here and let's keep it up with a solid showing against UConn.

I had read that he has until the end of the Add/Drop period to enroll, under NCAA rules anyway. There's no precedent for this at GU, and under the rules for normal students, it's not allowed. Would the admin twist the rules for JTIII? Should they? I dunno. I'd be curious to see if coach could slip him through - it would say something interesting about his sway within the University. I bet there's no way Esherick could do something similar.
It's not entirely clear to me that we want Fofana. Many people describe him as more of a plodder and a mid-major player. He'd be useful, but he's not an obvious fit. Especially if he doesn't make good decisions like Roy. One of Roy's best traits is his ability to handle the ball up high and not turn it over. That's not easy for a guy his size.
The LSU kid on the other hand sounds like a monster. He'd be the sort of athlete we haven't seen in a Hoya uniform in quite a while.

RDF, where the heck have you been? I've been waiting to hear your "thoughts" about Kevin Garrnett, eh, "leading" his teams to victories this year.

SFHoya-it was a question and joke mix-I haven't seen anyone use the effects before, so I was wondering how they are done.
So...

Can someone recommend a good, FREE website for following recruiting, getting top 100 lists, player reports, etc?

I personally know 2 people who transferred in to Georgetown that started in the Spring. Both cases had some extenuating circumstances... perhaps this could slide in as well.

Spann is 6'8 215 and has the athleticism to play the 3 or the 4. I wouldn't count on Fofana coming. I would like to get Theo Davis personally.

With regard to mid-year transfers- the admissions office and the deans offices are not set up to deal with them in large numbers. Typically, the preference is to have transfers apply in the spring when the admissions office has enough time to deal with them and the winter is so busy with first year applicants. Then the deans office has a much easier time with them starting with the fall when they have all the New Student Orientation stuff going on. That said, there are special circumstances they are willing to consider and they are able to handle a few spring transfers on a case by case basis. In other words, if Fofana is an academic fit and he wants to come and we want to have him, university transfer policy should not stand in the way.

rivals.com says that he has a slight interest-they have him going to Texas. Personally, I'd like to get Andray Blatche-kids from Syracuse, is pretty interested in Gtown (so's 'Cuse-wouldn't it be sweet to get him from under their nose). Also, the scouting report says he has a guard's skill in a big man's body (6'11, 230)-he'd fit in perfect for the Princeton O.

I'm almost positive Blatche is going straight to the NBA. He'd be a great get, though, I agree. rivals.com says that he has a slight interest-they have him going to Texas.
