Is this thread giving anyone else the same feeling you used to get in college when you'd been drinking all night and then you look at your watch and suddenly realize the sun's about to rise? No? Nobody? It's just me? Well, the sun rises when this thing hits 10 pages!!!! Who's with me? Now is the time on Shprockets when we dance. That brings back some memories . . . nothing like leaving the Tombs on a Sunday morning the same time people were heading to Church at Trinity. Good times . . . yeah, this thread is a lot like that, with Harbin Hoya playing the role of the roomate that keeps telling you to shut up and go to bed because he has to get up in the morning for ballroom dancing lessons! PAGE NINE, BABY!!!!

Just gotta say I'm a Fan Of The ballroom dancinG.
Great job by the chicks for dressing up. Thumbs down to the guys for their attire...what was it, a Devils shirt, a cowboy hat, and a Georgia Bulldogs T-shirt?
10 out of 10 on the Unintentional Comedy Scale. Kudos.

we've never lost a home game that the ballroom dancing team performs at during halftime. Maybe if they keep dancing the Hoyas will keep winning. . .

The sheer awesomeness of this thread is astounding. I wasn't there, but I'm just imagining the Devil Goes Down to Georgia, David Putty with his face painted in a New Jersey Devils jersey dancing with Lisa Rinna or Stacey Keibler. Gold, Jerry, Gold! I wish I had seen it. Why doesn't someone tape these things? The best halftime event I've seen in the last five years was at a Knicks game this year (vs. Charlotte) where this guy named "Steve Max" led a game of Simon Says with about 200 kids and winnowed it down to 1 in about ten minutes. On paper it sounds as bad as the tire roll, but in person it was amazing. I would have rather watched a 40 more minutes of Simon Says than the Knicks. www.stevemax.com/

Seriously, who else thinks the cheerleaders look like eighth graders!?!?!? By the way, can somebody tell the squad that dancing "suggestively" only turns-on the pedophiles. * * * If nobody supports my effort to get our own dance contest, may I suggest another performance inspired by the Navy half-time: 1. Get a small boy from the crowd, make sure his name is Henry. 2. Blindfold him and give him a sack. 3. Spread ping-pong balls marked with dollar amounts around the court. 4. Turn on some music and let him him crawl around the court stuffing balls in his sack. Pure genius I say, pure genius. But the court is covered in glass and Henry has to face off against a blind kid named Yuri. Game on!

Oh man, I would like to say thank you to everyone involved in this thread for the laughs I've gotten. I'm getting ready to go out on a patrol, and this has certainly lightened the mood for me, as this is the hardest I think I've laughed in about 6 months. Pretty much every single post in the last 9 pages has been greater than the one before it, a tidal wave of both intentional and unintentional humor that one can only hope doesn't come crashing down on the moderators' sense of decorum.
I will now proceed to contribut my two cents, even though I am completely uneducated to talk about anything related to this since: a) I haven't been to a game since Temple in November '04, and I've only seen the Duke and Cincy games on TV this year (damn Armed Forces Network, showing nothing but ACC and Gonzaga), so I clearly didn't see the halftime performance b) I know absolutely nothing about ballroom dance, although I have lived in Georgia and Tennessee for the last 3 years and have an affinity for country music, and think 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' is a fantastic song. I don't however, understand how the two would mix, but this is probably largely due to my lack of understanding of ballroom dance. I did, however, see 'Shall We Dance' with my wife, and I bet J Lo could have done something with Devil. c) My wife was on some sort of dance team while she was at Georgetown for a year or two (it wasn't ballroom), and I've conceded to her that I barely knew of their existence let alone what they did. I have also admitted to her that if they were bad, I probably would have (did?) mocked them. She insists the were good. I take her at her word, as she has a helluva lot more talent than me in general, let alone at dancing.
This being said, a public performance opens oneself up to criticism, fair or not. Sounds like even the 'supporters' of the halftime show support it for its originality, the fact that it was a display of Hoya talent, and that's about it. [completely ignorant comment to follow] On the other hand, it sounds like it was poorly choreographed and costumed (I'm sorry, I can't forgive the NJ Devils thing at a Rutgers game, and even my Jersey wife would agree with me), poorly designed for an Arena setting, and simply probably not the kind of number appropriate for halftime of a Georgetown game.
Sometimes, leaders lay eggs--in this case it results in 9 pages on the HoyaTalk board. That's all that happened here. Doesn't mean GU Ballroom stinks or even that they shouldn't try at halftime next year...probably just need to adjust fire in terms of presentation. Perhaps Outkast's Rosa Parks, an American hip-hop classic (maybe?) with a Georgetown shoutout.

SBGORMS -- Welcome from Baghdad ... first no up armored humvees and now we learn about no regular Georgetown broadcasts ... keep up the great work and get home safe.
Now let me respond to your post:
1) The GU Ballroom team may or may not stink at ballroom dancing. It is unclear because "The Travesty on the Court" that was Wednesday night's halftime show did not resemble ballroom dancing. I think it was an attempt at a mult-style fusion. Mostly it resembled oddly dressed young people making fools of themselves.
2) "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" remains a fantastic song. Your assumption that that song and ballroom dancing don't seem to mix is even more fantastic.
3) JLo certainly could have saved the day. Sadly, there was no JLo. There was no sort of JLo. There was nothing that any slight relationship to JLo on the court.
4) Your wife, if she had been there, in all likelihood would have mocked right along with you. Those who weren't shielding their eyes from the trainwreck on the court were openly mocking, or trying to avoid eye contact with others.
Hope that clarifies things from an eyewitness to the scene of the crime.

SBGorms, don't confuse "the ballroom dance team" with "the dance team". The dance team is an official group of mostly hotties. I don't know how I'd describe their dancing...something between the Rockettes and the Scores Girls.
They were the source of another scandal at the Rutgers game as they came out in flank-4 a.k.a. diamond formation at the 4 minute timeout in the first half. They remained in formation, presumably waiting for their music to start, which never did, after a minute or so of frozen formation they exited.

If someone gets on TV with a "Ballroom Dancing??? Charlie Daniels??" sign today, I vow to chug the rest of my beer immediately. And maybe an extra one for suzhoya93, without whom none of this would have been possible.

Here's an idea..... the Fightin Ballroomers can atone for their controversial performance by remaining behind at campus to defend Healy Gates while everyone else goes to the Syracuse Game.
When Lamar and his mob of pitchfork-and-torch-wielding serfs arrives at 37th and O to demand an audience with the lord, the BDT will emerge from their ambush positions and take out all three of the WG marchers. After the corpses are buried, the BDT can use their special skills to dance on their graves.

Bring on the sign and bring on the beer.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the Hoyas can't lose so long as BDCD stays alive?

Does anyone else get the feeling that the Hoyas can't lose so long as BDCD stays alive? That has no relevance. I have to wear my Kurt shirt. The losing streak occurred because I did not. I've had it on for the last two games. Mea culpa. ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png)
