So... anyone know the injury and how long he is out? I wouldn't plan on seeing Akoy in a Hoya uniform on court this season. This stems from an injury to his knee in practice earlier in the week. So unfair because of the hard work he has been putting in and things were looking very promising for him.

FWIW, this has nothing to do with Akoy not meeting expectations at Louisville. I ask this, Have any of you ever had to recover from sports hernia surgery? Akoy was in total shutdown mode for basically 2-3months. I'm sure you are all smart enough to know what that does for strength and conditioning. Couple that with the incoming talent of the freshman class at that position and he flat out fell on the depth chart. As in my initial post I asked that you not trash the kid and give him a chance. I've watched him play basketball since his freshman year in high school. You just might be surprised what you have!!!!!!

In regards to Akoy making jumpshots, he won the 3pt. contest at the Kentucky Derby Classic in 2013.

So Derrickson won't get much run next season(s) and Hayes will be a double digit mpg guy? I don't see why a 6-8" 230+ pound guy with a 7-4 wingspan can't play the 5 for G'town, we've watched Hop do it for 2 seasons now.. Akoy being skilled offensively makes it all the better imo.. The program is LOADED at the 4 spot, it needs folks to help man the 5 spot Forgot to mention Derrickson. Wasn't saying that Akoy wouldn't get run at the 5. I think you're right that he will. That lineup would be big, skilled, and interchangeable. The designation of actual position isn't that important. The ability of Govan and Akoy to make jumpshots consistently will open up a lot

The first thing I noticed from those two pics of him in the suit is how long his arms are. I think those long arms and good athleticism can make it possible for him to hold his own playing a little bit at the 5. I still think the 4 is his best position though. In regards to Akoy's "long arms", I don't remember exactly but his wing span is over 7 ft. As I stated in a previous post, I consider Akoy to be a stretch 4.

Not sure which brother you are referring to. Magay is a senior at Omaha Central and Aguir is a sophomore at Creighton Prep. Magay needs to go to college prep school more than likely to get grades in order if he wants to play basketball. Aguir is tearing it up at Prep and will have no academic issues just as Akoy.

Hello Hoya fans. Have been lurking in this particular forum for over a week now. Having known Akoy for an extended period of time I am hopeful that everyone embraces this young man and gives him the opportunity to prove himself before passing judgment. He is one of the most kind hearted and sincere young men you will ever meet. FWIW, Akoy and my family refer to our relationship as "adapted family", so Yes, we are relatively close.
Where he fits within the Hoya basketball team will be interesting to watch develop from my viewpoint. Before his sports hernia injury last summer he was slated to be in a rotation at the 3/4 positions with Blackshear, Montrez, and himself. Obviously the injury was devastating to Akoy. Myself, I would refer to Akoy as a stretch 4. I will tell you this though, the kid learned how to man up on the basketball court as Akoy and Harrell guarded each other every day in practice. We were allowed to set in on practices when we visited Louisville for games.
He was on campus Saturday meeting with university officials getting classes set up. And hopefully the University will be able to get that medical redshirt so Hoya nation can enjoy this young man for 3 years.
I'll be checking in every so often so we'll be seein' ya. Cant wait to come to some Hoya home games.
