The news that the boosters bought out the contract seems false. If the boosters had bought the contract out then Pitino would be in play. Ewing is gone, who paid the contract off then? Presumably, the University.

Can we stop wetting the bed over every AA coach that's mentioned and Ronny? The $11M that someone plunked down to get rid of Ewing has a lot of gravitas. Apparently not enough gravitas to get our admin to make a run at the best coach of his generation, who wants the job.

I think if our ambition to be, like, what Xavier is. A program that goes to the tournament more often than not, that's respected, that once every 5 years or so could make a Sweet 16 run; yea, I think Cooley can do that for us. To be clear, there are MUCH WORSE options out there than Cooley. Someone like Brey would be sickening.
But if the ambition is to be what Villanova under Jay Wright was, what we were under JT Jr., or even early in JT3's tenure; a true national contender? A program that is clearly the 1st or 2nd best in the Big East? That's going to take Pitino.

We have a top 10 budget in college ball, world class facilities, perfect recruiting territory. To me, the goal for this program should be to win a national championship. I don't think Cooley is that guy. Maybe a Sweet 16 every 6 years or so. And maybe our collective ambition has fallen to a place where that's a great success. But I think we have one chance here to return to prominence; we need to hit a home run, not a single. So if it’s not Pitino which coach out there is good enough for that? It should be Pitino. Gates could also do it. There are probably only 20 coaches who can do it, but this is a top 20 job. We should get one of them.

I truly don't see what's so great about Cooley. 3-6 in NCAA Tournament games. Just feels really uninspired. We know what he is, a mid-tier coach in this conference. Judging a coach on 9 games is ridiculous. Ok. He's won 54% of his Big East games across a 217 game sample. Is that all that great?

So are we thinking the upcoming “search” is another sham? Of course.

The 6 means, 6 times in the tournament. Plus this year and would have had another during Covid. You know how many times PC went the prior 20 years? 4. It’s not an easy place to win. I think he’s worked miracles there to be honest. His ceiling is a lot higher here as well. He’s not Pitino, but there’s no one else out there I’d trust more to get us back in the tournament quickly either. He’s the next lowest risk in my opinion. Is 6 tournament appearances since 2011 all that great?

Impossible to have any faith in a President who brought back a coach who went 0-20, just to humiliate ourselves shredding apart any semblance of academic integrity around our program for the reward of going 2-18. And the guy paid a top 10 salary for this kind of performance to boot!
We're watching him blow the easiest slam dunk hire possible in real time.

There’s people who don’t want Pitino no where near Georgetown Basketball program. I believe Jack and Reed don’t want that baggage to enter Thompson Center. Pitino with his win at any cost mentality and huge amount of baggage doesn't belong at Georgetown. This mentality belongs back in the 1980's, when maybe it mattered.

We’re leading news stories again by making this happen. Now lets lead news stories by hiring Pitino. Then lets lead them again by going back to the Final Four.

Maybe donors and season ticket holders should start sending emails. Pitino or else! Trust me, I have been. And everyone else here should be doing it too.

I may have missed commentary on this, but why would Shrewsbury leave Happy Valley for this train wreck? Because Georgetown is a much, much better job than Penn State.

What’s so insane is that if the boosters backed most if not all of the buyout and want pitino, then Jack not wanting him is Jack fully going scorched earth. Cuz if I was one of those boosters I’d never give a dime to the school ever again and even put out something public calling out Jack No one has been harder on JDG & the administration than I have but I'm pretty sure the boosters who are helping with the buyout knew going in that Pitino was not high on his list. Let's be honest if the boosters don't step up JDG would have been content riding out another year or two with PE while using the money as the reason.. In this instance the boosters got what they paid for which is huge for the program How much more to buy out JDG and actually start winning?

Rick Pitino or bust. He wants the job. We need him. This could not be simpler.

Don't really understand why Cooley is viewed as some sort of home run hire. He's a mid-tier coach in this conference. He's certainly much better than what we have, but so is my Uber driver. We can do better.
