First, I think the idea that its now to avoid student backlash is reading waaay too far into things. It's now because they've come to some sort of decision. Second, in two years of close dealing with the athletic department, a press conference has NEVER been on the university calendar. Couldn't tell if that was a joke or not, but no chance anything would be put on there. Third, as for hilltopper's post, not even Georgetown sports information is so low as to announce a press conference about Jeff and Roy and then announce two assistant coaches. No joke - they put all the other press conferences on that site through the communications office. I understand that your source is Shapland and I don't want to doubt but I'd like more info than something said by someone on a message board.

Also just checked the facebook profiles and myspace profiles of the team - there is nothing mentioning them leaving and nothing mentioning III getting a new contract. I was gonna say thats creepy, but when I realized I had to minimize Jeff's facebook profile to do so, I decided to hold back. oh, and on edit: St. Pete-- I don't want to get into an argument with you, but show me one basketball press conference on there, and I'll eat my hat.

My guess is that the timing of this announcement and the timing of Katz's report are related. I'd be surprised (though not shocked) for him to get this 100% wrong two days before the event.

1. I think the most likely press conference would be to announce the assistant coaches. the second most likely would be a contract extension for III. the third would be to announce some change in status or roy and jeff. either that they're withdrawling or have hired agents. It wouldn't really make sense to have scheduled a press conference about Jeff or Roy before the lottery selection. Edited--Avoid insulting other posters--Admin

I dont understand why they would even hold a press conference if they were staying in the draft. Has anybody ever done that before? It just doesnt make since, they didnt hold a press conference to say they were entering the draft, why would they hold one to say they are staying in it?

I'm not dreading this thread. They could have a press conference to announce either way. I'd rather know than not know.
They've made their decision. I'm just thankful we get to know rather than debate endlessly for another month.

Its confirmed so its a moot point - but I don't want to disagree with you either - I know things work differently in Athletics than in many other areas of the University out of necessity and out of a need for some autonomy from the rest of the school.

Ok so - the draft order is set. We know that the Hawks have picks at 3 and 11 and could probably get Mike Connley and Hibbert/Hawes with those picks and they like Roy. But Roy has to compete with Hawes, the Chinese guy, Oden, Wright, and possibly a few others who could be seen as a replacement for him. So that may be a reason for him to stay - or it could be a reason for him to leave because despite all of that talent he's still the second best center in the draft. Jeff seems to have a complete skill set but after a day of watching Lebron James get excoriated for passing the ball - I'm wondering what NBA minds thought of his performance against Ohio State. It's less than 24 hours to their announcement and I really think that its difficult both to place them in this draft and to decide whether being in this draft is the best move for them. What do you all think?

This is the deepest draft in years. Next year there is nobody that is a Franchise pick. The incomming HS kids are not pro level this year, so Jeff and Roy would both be top 5 next year. Roy could be number one.

Thank God all the speculation will be over tomorrow. I hope that there will be no sniping if either decides to take the sure money and run. Who among us would have done diffeently??
I still believe that Roy will return. He needs more time and wants to put his mug on the Mount Rushmore of Gtown centers. In any event, the sun will come up on Thursday regardless. Keep the faith.

Of course, those that know me personally understand this. I can be unusually stubborn (of course, I prefer the term "resolute") if I commit to something.
