Jeff and Roy's decisions in the next few weeks will likely shape how we label this era at Georgetown.
We have the "Ewing Era." The "Mutumbo and Mourning Era." The Iverson Cup of Coffee Era.
and we have the ___ ___era for 2005 -2008.
If both of them stay this will definitively be the "Green and Hibbert Era." But if only one of them stays, I think history will look back on this time as belonging to that player. (Or at least as belonging more to that player than the other).
I urge them both to come back so that we can all remember this magical run as the Green/Hibbert Era. But there is a real risk that in the pantheon of Georgetown greats one will always be just a notch below the other if only one of them comes back. Not a huge difference, but probably the difference between Mount Rushmore Status (Ewing, Mutumbo, Mourning) and the next tier (Sweetney, JYD, etc. . .)).

Regardless of what happens with Jeff and Roy this particular summer, let's hope someday in the future, when Hoyatalk is beamed directly into our brains through a high-speed NeuralNet connection, that we refer to 2005-2035 (or thereabouts) as "The JTIII Era."

I think the only one this scenario would apply to would be Roy, if he were to leave early and Jeff were to stay. Jeff's already cleaned up in terms of awards (BE MOP, East. Regional MOP) and has been the clear MVP. Roy's been awesome, but it hasn't been his team. It's been Jeff's. If they both stay, it's the Roy & Jeff era. If Roy stays and Jeff goes, then Roy has a shot at all the hardware and tournament glory as the star of the team and it's remembered as the Roy & Jeff era.

I have a great and rather appropriate name for said era, but I don't think too many of you want to hear it.

The Kurt Shirt Era - hopefully it lasts must longer. I was going with that or the "The Hasselhoff Era", but thought I would be violating FLHoya's TM.

Any and all opportunities taken to rib Hasselhoff are fine in my book.

I'm gonna allow it but only on a trial basis because Kurt's Hasselhoff haircut only lasted one season. It's tough to name this era after one person. I mean: *JT3's roman numeral is on the back of shirts. *Roy has a song *Jeff has a mom who's got it going on Jeff had the more "Burton" moment with the shot to beat Vanderbilt (I seem to recall getting a text message that night to the effect of "Generation Green was just born tonight"), but J-Wall's shot will likely have a more prominent place in Hoya lore for years to come. But everyone else on the team already has an "H" because of Jessie's halfcourt shot against Villanova. I guess the obvious is that Jeff and Roy are both in their own right transcendent players. But I think the 2005-2008 Georgetown Hoyas are more defined by the "team" concept and the style of basketball that's served them (and their fans so well). All I can say is that it's certainly been a fun era.

Hey, guys - I love naming the era as much as the next guy/gal - but we haven't received any definitive word that is over yet.

This will be known as the "Early III Era" defined by strengthened recruiting and nice runs in the NCAA's.
It will differ from "The III Era" in that later years will see the Hoyas win between 4 and 36 NCAA titles -- TBD.
This end of the III era will be marked by the beginning of "The Early Coach Jon Wallace Era".

I was considering suggesting The beginign of the end of competitive basketball because Georgetown has emerged as a dominant power house having won the past 10 straight Titles Era. but it seemed a little long.

This end of the III era will be marked by the beginning of "The Early Coach Jon Wallace Era". I digress a bit from the "era" conversation, but really...can you think of anyone who screams "Let me coach this team" louder than Wallace. I just feel like he's so intelligent and articulate, and he got into a school (Princeton) that a lot of Georgetown students couldn't touch. I almost see him as an Athletic Director, but he's clearly got the best handle on basketball. It's nice to think that maybe...just maybe...we keep him around for a long time.

You missed year 1 of JT3's tenure, didn't you? Well, you should check out Nodak's first CD, the last track--"The End of the End (as we know it)" That's right, it starts right at Midnight...Madness at McDonough. Roy is dancing, I'm afraid." (trust me I could go on)

Out with E, In with III or Out with the ERROR--THE RETURN OF THE TERROR!! It's the Modern Era since 1972, leave it at that. Alliteration asdide, John Thompson's selection of a successor was not happenstance. He knew exactly what he was doing, so for fans to slough it off as an error is unnecessary on a number of levels, especially eight years later.
