To all my fellow HoyaTalk posters:
If you feel the need to ask questions to the board regarding travel or tickets in Atlanta, DON'T DO IT!
If you want to post a thread sizing up North Carolina or, God forbid, any team from any other region, DON'T DO IT!
If Tony Kornheiser says anything, anything, about the Hoyas and you want to post it, DON'T DO IT!
I'm surprised we've lasted this long with all the crazy jinx-tempting going on.
Listen to Carmelo Anthony, kids: "Only you can keep the basketball gods on our side. STOP JINXIN'!"
Can I get an amen, Buff?

in all seriousness though, the biggest jinx is someone calling anything and everything a jinx. The first rule of jinxing is dont talk about jinxing

Let me put this out there: This team is better than jinxes.
Thinking about jinxes is an Esherickian state of mind. By that, I mean for the first time in my eight years of Hoya Hoop fandom I have complete and utter confidence that the head coach will have his team prepared, ready, and hungry to win. They may win; they may lose, but jinxes aren't going to have anything to do with it.

Amen in general to the basketball gods I presume that by "the basketball gods" you mean the Hoyas! We are above any jinx, too strong for Fate, too good for anything but our talent, intensity and focus to lead us to UNC, Atlanta, and the Title! HOYA SAXA!

Amen in general to the basketball gods Well Kansas is still in the tournament so I believe the only logical conclusion is that us mortals have finally usurped the power of the greedy Basketball Gods thus spake hoyatalk

I believe that is very important to please the basketball gods. It is even more important to not offend them in any way.
During the Notre Dame game, I was at Tombs with some other people. A lady fan, a hoyatalk lurker, and I decided that we would take tequila shots if we won. We made this wager when Notre Dame was jacking up threes from South Bend at hitting them. We win, we get drunk, we leave for New York City early the next morning.
Driving to Winston Salem last weekend, we promised the basketball gods that if we came away with the win, we would drive back in our minivan - decorated with Hoya streamers and lettering - without pants on.
While motorists in North Carolina and Virginia might not have been pleased on Sunday afternoon, the gods were.

A jinx is akin to Bigfoot. He doesn't exist unless you have a nip or two of good sherry.
If you want to talk about being overconfident, and if you think that maybe the players or coaches will get caught up in all of your big plans and come into a game without the edge then fine. But that is not the same as a jinx.

Trust me, I'm the most rational-minded guy you know. When it comes to sports, however, I tend to be Superstion McGee. Fear the basketball gods, ladies and gentleman, or they will strike the team down with vengeance and fuuuurious anger. Plus, being superstitious in this way also keeps us from coming off as arrogant. ;D

I will be wearing my hawaiian shirt, WAG t-shirt, and Hoya socks Friday night as I watch at home. And if we win, I'll have the same outfit on Sunday in the Meadowlands (knocking on wood). Real or not, I don't want to be the guy that jixes them!
Either the jinx is real, and you avoid it, thus not jinxing the hoyas, or it is not real, and you still avoid it, thus having no effect. You have little to lose by avoiding jinx behavior if it is false, but much to lose if you fail to avoid them, and they are real -- Pascal's Wager (kinda).

I'm with Bando (surprise, surprise), but a little more realistic.
I can't prevent these conversations, but I dare not participate in them. What you all do is your own business. Just know that if anything bad happens, I am going to blame you. And then I am going to kill you. We're in the business of winning games, people. Who's gonna' do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg?
My personal mojo is standing up (I can't grow a very good beard). The last time I sat down during a Hoya game was, well you know when it was. Ever since then, I have been standing up for every game that I've watched on TV (and even at the BET, I didn't sit down, just leaned back against the seat). 6 in a row in that span.
Also, I think it's important to note that the Hoyas have lost only one game since I have selected "Click to Ignore" for a certain Florida troll. Even if you can't stand up for the entire game, I recommend that action to all.

Nevertheless I understand the concern, hell I'm part of the playoff beard group
