I'll agree with Dudley about the 'gimme' games. I don't know about the athletes comment.

Not hatin' on the Big East, Lic, but if you look at our cellar dwellers compared to the ACC's, you'd have to at least consider his argument.

For my two cents on ACC versus BEAST, I think the argument about Miami, VT and BC being perennial also rans in our conference and then being better teams in the ACC really only held water for the first one to two years after their defection. You could make an argument for the third year as well, I suppose, but it's weaker (since half the players have turned over and almost all of the freshman recruits have been recruited to the new conference). By the time you are fours years out, this rationale doesn't hold much weight.
Also, the argument that the 9, 10, 11 and 12 teams of the ACC are better than the 13, 14, 15 and 16 teams in the BEAST is flawed as well. I'll assume that the previous sentence makes my point self-evident.
Personally, I think both the ACC and BEAST are great conferences. The criteria that really matter for me are tournament performance, OOC results and statistical analysis ala Ken Pomeroy. According to all of these factors, I have trouble making the argument that one conference is head and shoulders above the other.
Now, what does bother me is the baseless groupthink arguments by paid TV commentators (I won't call them analysts) that the PAC-10 or the ACC is the best conference in the land or that the Big East is down this year (apparently based on the fact that we do not have two number-one-seed caliber teams this year).
Ok, I think I've made my point that this conference homerism is ridiculous on both sides. I would go on with some points about the relative strength of G-town versus BC teams, but I have to go call a BC alumn who is a friend of mine to congratulate him on capping off a great season with a win over TTech.

I agree - two of the main gimme games (if you can actually call them that - in fact they weren't gimmes, just a higher chance you'd win) that usually existed in the old BEAST were Miami and VT. There were a couple of years where that wasn't the case, but usually those were 2 that were weaker. South Florida is now similar but even last year they showed they weren't a gimme by beating us. Rutgers had a bad year this year, but when BC was here, they definitely weren't a gimme, esp. at home. Finally in a 16 team conference, in any given year you are going to be somewhat more likely to have a couple weak teams as compared to a 12 team conference. Also as for nc state going to their finals - take the fact that SUcks last year was something like an 8 or a 9 seed last year and won our tourney. So it happens here just the same.

I'll agree with Dudley about the 'gimme' games. I don't know about the athletes comment. In case you need any clue about the superior nature of ACC athletes, aggypryd, take a look at THIS! Those ACC'ers .... woohoo, got me shaking in my booties! ;D

I know it's good to be confident and all that, but Dudley played in the Big East. In this conference, if you talk, you need to walk. None of this tough man "hold me back hold me back" stuff. When he said what he said, I thought, boy, he walked right into that one.
I loved how Sapp stood his ground today against Dudley.

Dudley still a fool:
"I don't regret anything I said. I'm flattered that it took my comments to get Ewing motivated." -- Boston College senior Jared Dudley (19 points) on his pregame comments questioning the athleticism of the Big East

Posted this in the WaPo thread, but the quote is great from Jesse: "He kept throwing the ball at me [as he made a basket] and I said, 'Yo, let's just play ball,' " Sapp told The Post. "That was just like a Big East game." Love Jesse's attitude and the fact he didn't back down. Great heart. JaBron = Jabrowski. And for all those other games Pat Jr. was "instant energy?" Dudley isn't just stupid, he's delusional and conceited as well. And now he's an ex-college basketball player.

Well here's my opinion on this subject:
1. Patrick Ewing JR's response was what GEORGETOWN is all about--he complimented the ACC and still made his point about the lack of respect and what an A-Hole Dudley was/is/will be.
2. Dan Coleman--who was poached by Dan Monson at Minnesota after originally signing with Boston College relayed this story to me as we talked up in stands prior to a Summer League game this past year--he signed with BC out of HS due to liking the academics, loved his recruiter--Assistant Coach at BC, and most of all-he wanted to play in Big East--which at time Eagles were still there. He goes to Campus for school and decided to leave within 2 weeks due to the type of people his future teammates were--which has only been backed up since his transfer.

I have no problem with Dudley's bravado. He generally plays with a chip on his shoulder and it works for him. He's a good baller.
I am extremely gratified, however, that the ambitions of that cursed institution for which he toiled have once again been confounded by a CHARTER Big East school. Their hubris caused them to reject their origins and their peers. So it goes.

After seeing him for the first time in person, what a punk. good thing (maybe) that JWall was able to seperate Jessie and him, this makes the win so much sweeter.

I missed some of the game - when did Dudley and Sapp go at it?
Just watched the "buzzer beater" (last 2 minutes) on MMOD - in addition to Jeff's earlier dunk, that play where he just ripped the ball from the BC player and got the lay-in was pure gold.
