Anyone noticed how the Washington Post college basketball Sunday columnist has written about EVERY other possible area program this season except Georgetown? I can see why he hasn't - it's not like the Hoyas have done anything noteworthy this season. FEINSTEN = BUM.
Anyway, here's what he said yesterday on the TK show, on the subject of college hoops
Feinstein (Bum): There are so many teams bunched in the middle of these major conferences. Florida's really good, North Carolina's really good, UCLA's really good. Ohio State and Wisconsin are really good. That's the list.
Kornheiser (incredulous): Well, Georgetown's really good right now
Feinstein (Bum): Georgetown's very good. They're not at that level. Georgetown's obviously in the tournament.
Then he quickly redirected the conversation to how many teams the ACC would get in, particularly Maryland. At least the known jackass conceded that we're in the tournament. It's amazing - every time I think I've come to terms with his vendetta against Georgetown, he goes and says something else that totally Editedes me off. Turdball.

I like the stage directions here...(incredulous). Kornheiser must think this guy is as much of a chump as we do. Cam, please get your icon back in line with the reality that is Feinstein!

Never understood why this guy riles hoyas fans so much. Him saying we are not at the level of UNC, OSU and Florida is not exactly an insult. The writers don't make the hoyas win or lose, so just let the petty stuff from people like Feinstein roll off your back

I've retired that avatar - it scared me that some people probably thought I looked like the BUM because of it.
I am pleased that I've been able to make "BUM" happen, and I trust that the moniker will live on here in Hoyatalktown - please enjoy it and use it liberally (no, easyed, not THAT kind of liberal).
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to start drinking. Only 25 1/2 hours until tipoff...

It clearly wasn't a huge slight or insult, just the latest in a decades-long pattern from a true bum.

Somehow, over the last 6 weeks, when the Hoyas have been undefeated over 10 games and vaulted into the national consciousness, he's seen fit to write columns about the likes of American, Loyola (MD), Harvard, Penn and Air Force, but not about the Hoyas. He's a BUM.

Its to the point where you know its beyond Hoya Paranoia to think he has it in for us. He'd probably admit it if you asked him this point, because he makes no effort to try and hide it.

Not just Crean - you have to pledge to only bring up Marquette during game weeks!
And then I won't bring Feinstein up ever again. I promise

I love Feinstein...cracks me up. It's always cool to see a grown man act like a 4 year old who was told he couldn't get ice cream. It might be JTII's crowning glory to have upset this adult so much and so long ago....high comedy.
It reminds me of one of my favorite moments with Cam and Fan of the Game. At an NCAA tournament game at MCI Center and we see Feinstein = Bum walking by near the floor between games. We're half way up the lower bowl. Cam yells to Feinstein: "Hey Feinstein!"...he looks up with this eager grin on his face like a "fan" was going to tell him how great he is...that or he was just happy someone noticed him.
Then just as his smile is in full glory Cam yells: "You're a BUM Feinstein!...YOU'RE A BUM FEINSTEIN"...the 2nd time to let it really sink in.
I've never seen a guy sulk like he did at that moment. Highest of all comedy.

what's the history with him. Is he just taking sides in the Sweaty/JTII fued? Or is there something deeper?

I enjoyed it when he was on with TK and he said taht one of the reasons he's in Florida is because he needed a topic for this week's column. Before his appearance next week I'm going to email in with a suggestion of writing about the best team in his newspaper's coverage area. Crazy thought. We'll see if Mr. Tony calls him on it.

what's the history with him. Is he just taking sides in the Sweaty/JTII fued? Or is there something deeper? Too long to explain, maybe it deserves a archived post somewhere. This dates back to a perceived slight circa 1982 where Feisntein thought the elder Thompson held him back from getting the Georgetown beat because it went to Mark Asher and later Mike Wilbon instead. (Maybe the Post's sports editor at the time had a little something more do do with it.) By the way, I think Kornheiser gets a kick out of twisting Feinstein over Georgetown. Tony's use of calling him "junior" (and getting away with it) also seems to be an inside joke.

Kornheiser always tries to tweak Junior, no doubt. Part of that whole brotherly thing they've got going. I think Kornheiser is the only one Junior would put up with it from. While he does use Georgetown to tweak him, TK has been one of the most visable members of the media to support Georgetown in the past year or two. He pushed us on his radio show and PTI last year, and he's been bringing up the Hoyas on PTI this year too (he got Wilbon to agree that Georgetown is one of the top five teams right now on an episode earlier this week).

I love TK. I just wish they'd have paired him in the MNF booth with another analyst who a) actually knows something about football and b) isn't too hypersensitive to keep TK from making fun of him.
But both Wilbon and TK have been very pro-Gtown this year. I remember well my years in college where the only talk was about Maryland.

Tony has definitely been a strong supporter recently, including pointing out at about mid-season last year, that GU was one of the top 15 teams in the country. He was very early with that observation.
This is particularly interesting because, unlike a certain =BUM, he has been able to appreciate the Hoyas despite his own conflicts with JT2.

I probably would have said it even if I'd only had 83 beers.

Although Feinstein is probably correct (He had to have heard it from somebody else. He never could figure that out himself)) about the top level teams, the best part of the story is that Kornheiser knows he can tweak Feinstein by mentioning Georgetown. Obviously, Feinstein's prejudice towards the Hoyas is well known in journalistic circles.

Good lord Cam....I almost forgot that was the legendary St. Patrick's Day tourney day. Kegs and Eggs at 9AM....Feinstein's a Bum by 3PM....solid day all around.
