On the Nova board, some of their posters called us there biggest rivals. Which got me thinking I know most of us consider Nova a rival but how highly ranked on our list of rivals do you see them.
Here is my list of our biggest rivals: 1: Cuse 2: Nova 3: ND 4: West Virginia 5: UConn 6: SJU 7: GW / Maryland / local school's who think they are better than us 8: Duke

I would move St. John's up to three and everyone else down -- SJU is down right now, but under normal circumstances they are a big rival.

I agree with sweetness and think that we'll be seeing West Virginia move up over the next few years. Two of the most innovative coaches and now some history between the teams

Yeah I had them higher initially but recently I have been pulling for them to get good again. Even when we play them I don't have any animosity towards their team.
But not too good. If they get really good again and New Yorkers embrace them they are gonna have a ridiculous advantage in the BE tourney.

My board goes like this:
1. Cuse 2. Cuse 3. Cuse 4. St. John's 5. ND/UCONN
and lastly UMD if they ever decide they want to have a neutral game at comcast center where we get half the tix and split the revenues.
GW doesnt even count becuase I only started noticing them last year and I have already forgotten them this year.

1. Cuse 2. Cuse 3. Cuse 4. Cuse 5. Cuse
I don't think anyone else is really in the conversation. Nova, ND, WV (maybe Marquette now) are all about the same for me, but I wouldn't consider them rivals.

SUcks - 'nuff said NOVA - '85, and the fact that it feels great to beat them. Loved spoiling that reunion party, though I actually like Nova when they are not playing us. SJU - history re: formation of the BE. I hope they get it together again soon. WVU - they have moved up considerably with the arrival of Bee Line. As well, there are true idiot pigs on their board! YouCon - Other than the fact that they are a good program, I feel no great "rivalry" with them.

Count me out on this WVU rivalry. They have plenty of rivals and border wars that can be extended to football.
Just because Beilein runs a motion offense that has Princeton principles doesn't make them a rival.
I would lose to WVU every time if it meant we'd beat UConn, 'Cuse, the Johnnies, or 'Nova every time.

Take Duke off that list. They have never been, nor will ever be our rivals until we face them 3 of 4 years in the Final Four and/or JT3 and Coach K get into a fist fight at an AAU Tournament while recruiting the number one prospect in the nation.

Cuse, Nova, and SJU are the classics.
UCONN is the 90s addition.
WVU is making a strong case to be added but isn't quite there yet.
ND has slipped. A few years ago I would have said they were on the cusp of being a rival. Now, I would put WVU there instead.
There are no other teams worthy of consideration. Duke and MD are not our rivals. If they are our rivals, so is WG.

1. Syrsacuse. Remember you can't spell suck without SU. This rivalry is the basis of the Hoya faith.
2. Villanova. Can anyone forget Gary "Snowflake" McClain and 1985?
3. UCOW. Ray Allen and 1996.

I would probably agree that we are their biggest rivals....however, Syracuse is a WAY bigger rival for us than anyone else. I guess my list would be-
1. Syracuse
big gap
2. Villanova 3. St. John's- right now more of a "friendly rivalry", until they get back to the level they need to be.....I think most Hoya fans are rooting for the Johnnies to get themselves back to where they were so this rivalry can be what it once was. 4. ND/Pitt/WVU- Recent great battles/team we are fighting for league supremecy against/up and coming rivalry that may or may not pan out. 5. UConn- More because I just don't like them than there being any big rivalry.
The rest of the teams are about on even ground- it is all newer teams that we haven't developed a history against (Marquette, Louisville, etc) and older teams that we just don't seem to have the same level of "rivalryness" as we do with the top 3 or 4 (Providence, Seton Hall, etc.)

There's no way SJU can be a big rival if some on this board are rooting for them to improve so that the games are more competitive. That would be like Michigan rooting for Ohio State in football, UCLA rooting for USC in basketball or any other great rivarly. Rivalries should not be dependent on how good the other team is. It's a rivalry because you hate that school. I for one am a big UCLA fan and I would NEVER root for USC to win a single game unless it directly helped the bruins. Just like I would NEVER root for cuse to win unless it directly helped the hoyas. It's not a rivalry if you're rooting for that team to win.
